204/365 GRAHAM GOULDMAN (10CC) - WE'VE MADE IT TO THE TOP (1980)
During the course of this year I aim to upload a song every day for your consideration as to whether they were good enough and sufficiently commercial to have become UK Top 20 singles. Many different genres will be represented, so if this particular one’s not your preferred style then hopefully it won’t be too long before you find one that is.
For those songs that are interesting enough for you to give them a proper listen, please press “like” if you think it could have been a hit, and “dislike” if you don’t, in the hope that we get enough votes to obtain a balanced overview. Also, if leaving a critical comment please try to take into account the year of original release - most of the songs that I'll be uploading are decades old so it wouldn’t be surprising if some sound dated now.
Today’s choice is We’ve Made It To The Top by Graham Gouldman from the soundtrack album he wrote for the NBC “Animalympics” animated television film in 1980. Gouldman has written many fine songs during his lengthy career, but I’m going to stick my neck out here and suggest that Animalympics is actually his finest album, and there are many songs from that LP that rank with his best. This of course is one of them, and if you can put to one side the fact that it was written for a children’s movie then like me you’ll hopefully appreciate that it’s perfectly good for adults too.

My Childhood, I'm 41 & still sing this song. My Pops rented Animalympics from Blockbuster when we were kids & we LOVED it rented it often too.

I'm 49 remember watching this movie n now still loving thus album my bf bought the movie fir me as a birthday present years ago. He said it was hard too find expensive.

Not too far behind, remember watching it on Either HBO/Showtime & Disney. Idk why, but it means so much that a lot have very fond memories of this
This song was used at the end of NFL Films "Saviors Saints And Sinners" a recap of the 1980 NFL Season. I have loved the song ever since I heard it. Thanks for sharing. In fact Animalymics was supposed to support NBC'S coverage of the 1980 summer Olympics but did not air at that time because of Jimmy Carter's USA boycott of the Moscow Olympics with the tensions between the countries at that time.

If this had come a few years before "Animalympics," it might have been a bigger hit. Unfortunately, this was right during that black hole that 10cc fell into. The band was having a really hard time getting back on their feet, so they were already having issues as a band; a solo release by any of them would have sunk faster than the Titanic. Graham Gouldman is just one of those songwriters whose songs you like, but when someone tells you his name, you say "Graham Who?"

yeh he was a very underrated writer. have you heard of a band he was in called wax, they did a few albums. also godley and creme are good.

Never give up. You posted this and it has always been a champion song for me. And you are a champion because you recognize that fact. Never give up. Never grow old. Never die in the name of Jesus.
