2021 Touring bought brand new almost 100k already with zero issues. Normal maintenance always over 33 miles per gallon 600 miles to a tank. Great road trip car. And once you get used to the screen, it’s actually amazing. I am also not one to mess with buttons a lot so for me touching the screen once or twice for hvac is not an issue.

2021 Outback Limited XT here. Sadly, I received a lemon: - Turbo replaced at 35,000km - ABS sensor failed and replaced around 20,000km - B pillar rattle I fixed myself after 3 visits to the dealership (loose curtain airbag bracket) - Roof rack replaced at 50,000km due to paint peeling - Transmission replaced at 30,000km That said, after beta testing the car, it's great now.

I had a 2011 Outback that was one of the best cars I’ve ever owned. Sadly I replaced it with a 2019 Outback after an accident and that one was a terrible lemon. Transmission failed at 35k, battery problems (had to replace it 4 times in two years) and then the AC died at 75k and I called it quits.

I like that you can get the Premium without sunroof unlike the Fotrster which upgrades to a sunroof on anything over a base. Where I live we have snow 5 months of the year and a lot of rain in the other months, and to me a sunroof is a waste of money and something else to go wrong. Had a Saab where the drain tube went bad and got a nasty leak soaking the roof pillar and floor. Had sunroofs in a couple other cars without issues but barely used them, just not worth it to me.

Subaru's Premium trims always have been my favorite, well equipped trims with cloth seats. I'm glad they haven't jumped on the vinyl bandwagon (except for the Wilderness) like some others... like Toyota & Mazda...

Mazda is a good product - in my family’s last 5 new cars have been Mazda, Subaru, Mazda, Chevy ( Bolt), Mazda. Most recent Mazda vinyl/cloth has been bulletproof when at the same age the one Subaru leather (limited) interior was cracking and had the finish coat peeling in places. Plus the first Mazdas transmissions were issue free at 120-150k miles with occasional trailer towing and fluid changes. Wasn’t a cvt fan.

I've owned a 2010 OB, 2015, & 2022; all 2.5 NA engines,. average ~ 27 mpg on all with about 60% highway driving. I agree with your assessments. While the 22 model is NHV continually improves the front seat area seems tighter with less storage. That is my main complaint. With the touchscreen complexity being # 2. It is usable but requires that I take my eyes of the road for 5+ seconds to make adjustments. That feels a bit too long for safety.

Great to see the led headlights….anything to avoid the chronic Subaru short lived halogen headlights syndrome. Last Subaru (and only one of 40 cars owned) i had technically required bumper cover removal for headlight replacement.. But i found (w help from KZread) bulb replacement from behind was *possible* by peeling the fender liner and cutting up your arm on sharp metal edges. Not fun but worth it.

It takes a mere push of a button to blank the screen. I would have preferred a dash without a screen, but car manufacturers can't do that now that backup cameras are required. As long as there's a screen there, you might as well use it, and I know from selling an almost-new used car that young people often won't look at a car if it doesn't have a screen.

Also, there is a slight chance when the windshield is replaced that some weird fluke, the software for eyesight can be wiped out of the system and the entire hardware and software needs to be replaced and reinstalled at a cost of $6000 Canadian. I work at an auto glass shop and we are trying to figure out how that happened on a 2023 Subaru legacy. Subaru is blaming us for wiping out the software in two cars.

@@AJSparacio413 I have 2023 Limited and it does have some sort of driver attention system. I turned it off almost immediately so I'm not sure exactly what its warnings might be. Yeah, I do miss the power of the XT, but it had terrible driveability. 260 HP turbo shouldn't be paired with a CVT. It constantly jerked, hesitated and surged unless I drove it with a very gentle throttle. A friend drove it and he noticed the jerky throttle right away. The dealer said there was nothing wrong and there were no software updates to address it. After 2 1/2 years I needed a crossover and I really like my Tucson. It has almost every feature the Subaru did and behaves much better in city traffic.

I misread your concern - the driver focus system. I don't have that & agree with you that it would be a irritating distraction. My error, sorry.

Subaru, if you are reading this: drop both engines and bring your new 1.8 turbo to the US. It would be a perfect 'middle ground' and simplify your supply chain.

@@jsundberg5542 My guess is that people who want a permanent AWD, above average ground clearance, can take the whole family (and a dog) almost anywhere, it doesn't cost a fortune to buy and maintain, legendary safety record. And it's very reliable. Bottom line - people who couldn't care less about the look. They want an actual car.

I really appreciate your great review on the Outback. I just purchased the the Outback 1 Week ago, and absolutely love the vehicle. Question, maybe you can help me with. I am adding a trailer hitch to the vehicle, and will be pulling a small trailer, about 600 to 700 total pounds. Is there anything else I need to do the vehicle?. Again thank you for your great and most informative video?.
