Recently, Suzuki registered a patent design for its electric Motocross or trail. The design patent Suzuki registered doesn't reveal any details about the battery or how it would be packed into the chassis, but it does show details of the transmission, which takes drive from the electric motor and reduces its ratio through several stages before it reaches the front sprocket.
The element that Suzuki hopes to patent is the layout of the reduction gear, which minimizes the size of the powertrain, so that it is no wider than the motor itself.
In fact, the front sprocket gear is closer to the motor centerline than the electric motor output gear. This helps keep the chain in the same position as on the Suzuki RM-Z model, allowing the swingarm and rear wheel to be taken from the combustion engine-powered Suzuki trail model.
