Test rode one yesterday and have bought it in the same colour (Cyan) that Mark had. Really fun bike which has a superb engine and handles very well. Could have gone for the SP version, but for an average rider like me, the standard bike is more than adequate.

@@markpulling12 The SP for a heavier rider (> 80 kgs plus riding gear) who loves spirited riding up and down some serious mountain passes (in the French, Swiss, Austrian and Italian Alps) as well as attending track days in the fast group - my recommendation 😊✌️🔥

Why would anyone ever want that gawdie color scheme? Hideous at best. SP looks best then blue then black.

@@JoeStanek-vu7rlThought about it before pulling the trigger. As I don’t need the SP, and like the grey on the Cyan, that’s what I went with. Black is boring and the blue is ok, purely subjective. See a lot of Cyans on the road so I’m not alone.

I just bought a gen3 SP. The CP3 engine is absolutely brilliant. I put a steering damper on mine, much to most of the forums dismay. But for me it tightens up the front end a bit as its very light and now it still agile but a bit more compliant and surefooted.

There's a small crew where I live with thirty bikes between them. Passionate lot. One of the bikes is an MT07 and none of us ride it, not one. We all think the engine's great, but the handling and riding position just don't work together. It's never ridden and just sits there. That said, I need to try the MT09, great review.

I have a 2019 mt09sp. I think it might be time to update it. But the standard model or the sp is the question. The sp will be over 20K Australian which is the price of a street triple rs. The standard model is over 2k cheaper. Worth the extra $? It was worth it buying the sp in 2020, but I also bought it on sale as the gen 3 were about to arrive.

In considering something a little lighter and more maneuverable at low speeds i have tried the 765RS and the new Speed T 1200, however my heart is still so much in love with the 1050RS. seems a great machine, and i wouldn't rule out getting one in future, but i just don't like coloured wheels, IMHO they look tasteless and gimmicy. when i sat on a bike in a showroom with some last year, the wife who knows less about motorbikes than i do laughed, said i needed to act my age (60's), and asked me if i really wanted to be seen on something coloured like a kids toy. i assume the colour is an option as i like the turquoise flash on the tank, but suppose at the end of the day it's a matter of taste.

Is this MT09 better than Triumph Street Triple 765? And what about build quality?

The valve service is at 24k miles on the MT09 which is a big bonus. Triumph prices for that job are eye watering.

Not a fan of the stubby rear end. Other than that looks good and really like that color scheme, especially the rims.

I bet it’s fun to ride but I just don’t like these angular plastic looking bikes. Each to their own but it reminds me of a 1980’s bike.
