My sister back in high school was really good, she even played on the boys team back in jr high(cuz there weren't enough girls to form a team). She was looking at college scholarships and was being invited to competitions around the country. She probably could've made it into the WNBA after college. Late in high school she got dropkicked in the middle of the game and flipped and landed knee first shattering her ACL. I feel horrible for her, especially knowing how much an ACL tear sucks, I got one too, but damn am I glad I didn't get guilt tripped into going to ANY WNBA games.

Jump ball gets won by the girl like a foot shorter than the other Ball immediately gets turned over Girl drives hard through the lane against no defense She doesn't pick a side, just goes right down the middle of the lane Airballs a floater from 8 ft out Ball starts going the other way Different girl commits a (minor) blocking foul that isn't called The girl who got away with the foul throws a mini hissy fit for some inexplicable reason

True story: In 2003, I was a college kid working at a Lifetime Fitness in Houston Texas. One of the personal trainers was a former center (granted, not a very well known or productive one) of the Sacramento Monarchs. One day we played 1-on-1 to 10. I don’t recall her name, but she was a massive woman. About 6’5 and had some meat on the bones. I am a 5’9 195 pound white guy who never played basketball past 9th grade and hardly hooped anymore at all. She won 10-8. That’s all you need to know about the level of talent in the wnba.

I have a similar story. Literally same exact year. My buddies sister, a Future Wnba player in college at a D1 school, showed up to our college. We’re both guards of similar height 5’8-5’9. Now I played in high school, was pretty decent. It was a bloodbath. She could shoot, but everything else was below average and SLOW. She couldn’t stop me from getting shy shot I wanted, either around her or shoulder down and through her. Physically it’s another universe, like I was beating up on a 13 year old.

When I was a freshman in HS way back in 94 Stephanie White was the big local talent. She was a Senior that year IIRC, and she was going to go to Purdue. She was by far the best women's basketball player in the state that year... I did get to see her do drills and practice against some HS boys. She could keep up with them, but it was against single A level talent. She was far better than the boys at shooting, ball handling, and dribbling. But she didn't have the strength or height. So it was roughly equal. She went on to play 4-5 season in the WNBA after heling lead Purdue to the Women's national title, and currently coaches the pro team in CT. The earlier WNBA looked a LOT better than current. I think the talent pool is far too diluted, and the big names are not fundamentally sound like some of the earlier players like Lisa Leslie. I personally thing that the NBA is sorely lacking in basketball IQ, but their athletic talent hides the huge chunks of the game that many of the players are missing. Mostly because so many of them miss out on most of a college career.

If true then it proves my claim about myself true. I’m 100% certain that high school me would destroy any WNBA starting lineup. I’m now 40 and I’m sure with just a few weeks of practice I could take any of them 1v1. They can barely dunk and I’ve been doing that since grade 8.

  • @losdawg6265

@@systematic101 It is an honest story, yes. Well, I could never dunk, so you have me there! And I agree with you. I also played in a pick up game once where a Missouri State women’s basketball player matched up against me. I locked her down on almost every play. She was about my height, 5’10, but I was much stronger and more athletic. Even though Missouri State isn’t a powerhouse, anyone of their men’s team players would easily shut me down. So, like we said … there is no comparison. A good men’s high school basketball team would annihilate any WNBA team. lol
