2024 Volvo XC40 Recharge - Living With The New Single Motor SUV
Hang out with Emily and I in the new single motor 2024 Volvo XC40 Recharge! While the XC40 is the entry level Volvo SUV, it still retains all the charm, and we like it quite a bit.

I'm happy Emily is keeping properly hydrated with her massive Stanley.
I love when Emily is in the videos!❤
Agree 1000% that SUVs and trucks do not need to have so much power. A 6000 pound vehicle full of people and stuff does not need to do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds.

But having that ability is sure nice. I like knowing that my Model Y dual motor can easily get up to speed on short interstate onramps.

I'd be happy with a 150 HP electric motor with a two speed transfercase awd for better slow speed torque, but I actually like ICE over electric.
A zippy wacky brother of the XC60. Volvo always produces refined and resilient vehicles and the XC40 is no exception.
The amount of depreciation on these is huge. Found a used Volvo XC40 Recharge Ultimate dual motor from Hertz with 7K miles for $33K.

Not worrying about depreciation as this car is so good that I’ll be keeping it for 5 years.
Thanks for solving the issue I've had for 20 years, finally topped up my blinker fluid 😂
Nah dude...next time we need Emily to drive too and do a review
What I love about Volvo is their depth. They have a very strong DNA and stay true to their legendary pedigree. You can feel it and it’s so special. You can hop in a Volvo 850 and then a brand new S60 and you just feel it. It’s like part of the family. Volvo is probably the best car manufacturer simply for their philosophy of building cars. A car cannot be beautiful if it’s not safe…..

But sometimes it's too safe ... the collision warning on the XC40 is super annoying and so is the emergency brake when reversing. Both are way too sensitive. Fortunately the latter can be turned off but this needs to be done every single drive. The beeping of the collision detection cannot be turned off and gives too many false alerts which is imo more dangerous then not alerting cause it scares the sh*t out of me every single time. The car has great hardware but there is so much to be improved on the software side of things.
Congrats with a very nice car! I have had 4 Volvos, and really like them (mainly V60s). Fun to see, that your equipment option and drive options, differ so much from what we have available in Denmark. Volvos always have this buildt-in quality feel, no matter what options you have selected, which I really like. PS: the EX30 is quite a lot smaller, and unfortunately - to me at least - doesnt really give me that usual Volvo vibe of substance.
I read the title ***"Living With The New Single Mother SUV."*** 🤣🤣🤣I thought these Volvos became pretty popular among single mothers for a second.
Hearing Survive from Vanze was great to hear, 7 years old and still a good vibe.
Was about to say Emily must have some really tall cups! Lolol. I will say one of the niggly issues I’ve been annoyed with in my Mazda3 is the way the center console opens. Since you have to slide it back before tilting it open, it won’t open all the way with the seats down since it’ll hit the seat headrests. Minor complaint but still love mine overall
Great review! Waiting to receive my RWD EX40
Dude Emily should drive too😅
The XC40 isn't going away and isn't being replaced by the EX30. The XC40 Recharge is changing name to EX40.
I wish Volvo would stop using those Pirelli P Zero's. They are such a hockey puck of a tire. Amazing cars once you put a real tire on it (Crossclimate 2 comes to mind).
20:15 😆😆
Nice Camper You Have. Moving home is very "modern". Who's driving You or Emily?😊
I’d personally go for a Volvo over its competition for lease because you don’t feel like you’re driving an overwhelming vehicle
I ❤ Volvo. I hope to own one in the future 😊
Cloth seats on the top trim? You don't see that a lot... I think the main concern with cloth isn't comfort, because cloth is usually really comfy, but the stains. If anything gets on the seats and you don't clean it within 2 minutes, good luck getting that stupid stain off. Not even Volkswagen's "stainless" cloth seats are really stainless. I'd take fake leather over cloth mainly because of the stains.
What I hate about the wood trim is that a collect a lot of dust
Hi Topher does this handle/have better steering feel than an ioniq 5?
How is the sound in the single motor version?
I have a question I was just reading a story about one of these vehicles catching fire my question is does this vehicle use electric actuators to open the doors instead of cables and rods like most cars if so what happened to this vehicle the rear seat area caught on fire and there's a small child back there and they couldn't get the doors open luckily the grandparents are able to pull the kid through the front seats out of the vehicle so if this is true and these cars use electric. So if this is true and this car uses actuators and motors to open the doors instead of cables and rods I wouldn't put my family one of these cars.
Hope they worked out the weird steering wheel vibration that comes in at highway speeds between 65-70

Nope, it's still there for most users from what I hear, even in the newest models. I too have it in my MY23 XC40 between 103-118km/h but fortunately I don't often drive these speeds. There is a 'fix' by replacing the airbag in the steering wheel which reduces the effect from what I hear.

@@larsvaneynde4281 can confirm...I picked up my MY23 XC40 Recharge and it does have it, and I do get into that speed often. Honestly it can be tiring if I was at that speed for a prolonged period but haven't tested that. For now it is a great way to know when I've reached that speed without looking down. I'll bring it up to a different dealer later on. The one I went to recently to warranty replace my EVSE said it wouldn't be covered and they conveniently had one in stock that another customer left for $700
They announced a name change to the EX40
I thought they called the all electric xc40 ex40 now...? I'm lost
Isn't it called EX40 from the current model year?

Just got mine in France and it is badged EX40 but all the stuff on the Volvo app says XC40 when you put in the vin number
Gorgeous , but 59K is too much 😢
Sheesh that road is absolutely patched aint it?
Love Volvo, but way too expensive for a compact suv, with not getting much
Thanks for the review; very informative! Sharp car!! Btw, not that it matters, but if you wish to improve your grammar, the description should read "Hang out with Emily and me [...]". An easy way to determine if it should be "me" or "I" is to simply imagine the sentence without the other person's name being included. "Hang out with me" would be correct.
XC90
What is your dream car? Also does Emily have one?
Why would anyone consider this when you can get a Tesla Model Y for $15,000 less and a reliable nationwide charging system? I don’t get it.
I never driven a car in my damn life. because always I´ve been poor.
Emily is right, it is a trash can
Firstttttt:)
