I got a 2024 MGM Tundra Limited HV in late March and have a little over 2k miles on it. Read about the recalls on the ‘22-‘23 years non hybrid trims and checked the dipstick after my wife got home with my Tundra since I took her 2024 Sienna XLE to the dealership so they can inspect the weatherstrip on the roof rail that detached from the back end of the driver side after an automatic car washed done a few days ago and thankfully they are going to replace both sides with new parts that are back ordered free of charge under warranty and we have an ugly bad good history with our local dealership service department so you know the deal. They’re going to take good care of us regardless. I’m a fair customer as much as they are so no matter what happens to our Toyota vehicles while it is on their hands, it will be taken care of. And to give you the answer on the dipstick, it shows a nice reading on it and oil looks clean so far with a 2k+ miles driven.

I tried to pull a 2,800 lb trailer around Utah and Idaho. The engine is either bogging or reving to the moon. Bad choice for towing a four thousand lb trailer you’re going to regret it. There's definitely more room in the back seat area, but it's not as bad as you'd think. Almost the same for me. Except I couldn’t pull the trigger on the new Tundra vs my really great 2019 Tundra Limited. $38;500 new. I kept my 19 w the perfect V8 and got a 2024 4Runner made still in Japan. So solid, proven smooth V6 full frame. These generation vehicles will be very valuable in the future. But they will run forever for me.

Why not the Nissan frontier. It’s a newest model of trucks with a v6 and low maintenance. At this point I am seeing people jump on Nissan since they have good suv/trucks. Not including the sports since those are considered exotic to customers.

Back in 2019 I heard about the Tundra tt v6 and told my wife I want nothing to do with turbos...man I am glad I have my 20 Tundra TRD OR. I also like leaf springs in the rear which is better for towing weight. My truck has 56 000 kilometres and will out last me. The new Tundra is not good and I am skeptical about the new Tacoma. If your 4 runner has the 4 litre v6, it is near bullet proof. I had a 13 Taco and was best truck I ever owned. It was dead reliable.

My new 2020 Camry made me leave Toyota products. It was the worst new car I've ever owned and Toyota wouldn't fix much of anything. They wouldn't even try. It was plagued with transmission, engine and electrical problems. Sad car for a EX Toyota fan.

Toyota corporate and dealer network response was horrible resolving issues with a 2019 Tacoma I purchased new. Subpar experience and way too many issues. Unloading it was the best thing I did. Moved on and didn’t look back. It was my first Toyota and not likely to consider the brand in the future. Move on, it’s not worth the aggravation.

Fast growth, constantly changing emissions, new technology and poorer American build quality. I stay with Japanese built 4runners and even that quality of materials isn't what it used to be. Probably the turbo and waste gate making noise. My turbo had the whine, but it seemed to keep the deer out of the road at 130mph coming home from work late night. Sadly I don't want to drive anything but a Toyota but if I needed a truck to do truck things I would have to get a RAM diesel. They should have just built a Ridgeline Sport truck. Oh wait they just did.

My 2008 Tundra with the 5.7L V8 has 300,000 miles, still running strong. Toyota really ruined the Tundra. Only way to maybe bring it back is to put back that tried and tested V8. When I was in the market to get a new truck, the Tundra was not even on my list due to them dropping the V8. So I went with a 2022 Tacoma off road and it has been solid.

I traded in a ‘21 Tundra TRD Pro for a ‘22 Tundra Platinum hybrid. Most of my issues have been rattles here and there and thankfully nothing major. That said, I can’t say I completely trust this new platform yet and bought a ‘24 4Runner TRD Pro in December (also in Underground). I know the hybrids aren’t included in the recall yet but figure they will be eventually. I may end up selling the Tundra before values plummet even further. Too bad because it’s nicer in just about every way from the gen 2 platform… except reliability.

  • @JasPlun

There are just as many failures with Ford, GM, and Ram you do not really have much choice I just watched a video on here a guy is on his 4th engine on a F-150 you can search it easy to find. We are living in a time where the engines are extremely complicated with very tight tolerances to meet EPA Emissions standards if you move on get a low mileage used reliable model like the old Tundra. When you look at the amount of failures the other brands are having your choices are buy an older model. That being said in Toyotas History they have been good at finding the issues and fixing them. They have found out the Rod Bearing failures are due to machining particles not getting fully cleaned out. Hyandai/Kia had this issue big time with their Theta engines. I understand why you would want to bail though.
