    27K 2003 money is the same as 40K in today's money. The real issue is that for your 27K you got a completed loaded model, and for that same 40K today you might get a single trim higher than base. Talk about greed.

    I like that gauge cluster screen. The layout reminds me of my 1990 Toyota Pickup. 22R, 4 speed manual in that one! I wish they would let you drive an SR with a manual.

    I can hear a lot of turbo whistle in this POV, but not so much on the manual version POV. I wonder why that is? Does the turbo have a silencer ring in it? Have you looked or asked Toyota?

    These should be a lot more common. Double-cabs make for a poor breakover angle offroad, even if you get very big tires that ruin MPG.

    $35k for a base model truck is stupid. They don't have any bells and whistles and are simple to build. They should start at 20-25k depending on drivetrain not 35k+.

    How’s the drivers seat room for a tall person? I’m 6’5” and the only midsize truck I fit in is 22+ frontier. Ridgelines are nice but the seat doesn’t go low enough

    To be fair, our dollar is decreasing in value and cost of living is getting worse. Very low increases in wages. So if wages aren’t keeping up with inflation, you damn right people will call out the ridiculous price increases for basic models

    @@chrisg5352my parents bought a double cab Tacoma in ‘08 for $26k and some change. My dad is a truck driver and his wages have stayed relatively flat despite there being a shortage of truck drivers across the country. We keep paying more for less and less in return.

    ​@chrisg5352 I think the point he is making is that this is an industry trend. All cars and trucks are significantly more expensive now. Today an Acura Type S is 50k. In 2017 for that kind of money you almost had enough for a flat plane V8 Shelby GT350 or a Corvette. I make 6 figures and I can't wrap my head around how people afford some of these vehicles (based on average transaction price)

    Chris, Can you explain how it is possible that Toyota had the presence of mind to include a fold-forward front passenger seat in a 2 door pickup while neglecting to do the same in every one of the dozens of CUV, SUV, minivan and hatch models they sell? 🤔These seats were once featured in the Matrix and IS wagon as well as numerous other vehicles from different automakers. They make a MASSIVE difference in MAXimizing the ability to carry longer items like ladders or 2X4s yet today they have almost disappeared . 🤨

    I remember seeing something from Toyotas design team saying the access can doors are more or less a safety thing they are phasing out. I could be wrong but i think that’s why this gen will not have the small access doors.

    The 6 cylinder in the 2nd gen Tacoma was the best man. So much gurth to the exhaust note and real nice torque too. I drive a 2.7l Tacoma right now and it’s slow as balls but sounds amazing for a 4 banger. Nice and deep subie burble

    Ok so I just went on the configurator. The proper 2WD fleet model with no options comes out to $32,995. Still a stupid amount for a Tacoma.

    That’s about on par with the ranger for fleet pricing. But the Chevy and Nissan are both still low $30,000s for a fleet model. 35k for the Colorado gets you an almost loaded 4wd WT spec

    Is it? That seems reasonable as hell considering Ford Rangers and 4WD Colorados both start at $34k USD. This thing will outlast both of those by a massive margin with infinitely better residuals. Literally nothing else in the class that undercuts it by a significant amount.

    Maybe 2wd. That was the 3rd gen(previous/current) sr 2 door $28k, $32k for the v6, $35 for the v6 4x4. Nissan frontier 2 door is $29,9 all v6, $33k 4x4.

    I think it's just a solid axel in the front in the base SR, I know the higher trim Tacoma's like the SR5 and TRD Sport get coil springs, the Limited, Trailhunter and TRD Pro trims all have adaptive dampers which is a pretty fancy suspension setup those trucks will ride very well.

    It would be a, as you said a real neat package, if it had the rear access doors that for some dumb reason Toyota decided to do away with. Sure, let me put my 60 pound toolbox behind the seat just to struggle to get it out every time I need it. Yes, Toyota did a good thing doing away with the rear access doors to make this new work truck an easy truck to work with. 35 thousand dollars, it’s not the perfect work truck.

    The fact they got rid of the rear suicide doors make this truck useless. I can only imagine how many back injuries will be cause trying the lift heavy stuff up and over the seats out from behind them. So dumb.
