2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness Earns Its Off-Road Scout Badge
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Any new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek has the ability to get owners to the good hiking trails. Now it’s available with the brand’s Wilderness package that adds additional ground clearance, off-road oriented tires, extra protection for the drivetrain, a re-calibrated transmission and lots of cladding and badging. It really will take people further into the wilderness. Tom Voelk takes it on an Ocean Shores razor clamming adventure and shares some of Ryan Douthit’s video of it tackling tough terrain. All that and it’s a pretty good everyday driver. This fully optioned vehicle retails for around $36,000. A solid deal.

Great stuff Tom. I test drove this car last weekend and I was very impressed. I love the shout out to Ryan’s channel.
The quality and sincerity of your videos are top notch Tom. I like the more personal touches on this video and seeing the car out in everyday situations.
Crosstrek WRX, c'mon Subaru do it. You have all the parts needed, they just need to be put together. A hatchback WRX with 8 inches of ground clearance : ) or at the very least make a competent hybrid Crosstrek cause the last plug in hybrid Crosstrek was just such a sad attempt

“Those unclear it’s a Subaru should consider seeing an optometrist” 👏 Great scenery during the razor back clam segment, and I’ve never heard or seen such clams!
An Indigo Girls reference in a Subaru review.......nice
I'm wicked sorry that making this video was a pain in your crosstrek (lol), but just to let you know, we appreciate the effort you & and your company go through to make these videos. Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones... P.S. Razor clamming is a lot like quahogging in New England, although quahogs don't borrow as deep.
Thanks for the labor of love that results in videos weekly, Tom. Your editing skills are fantastic!
Good thing you included how to cook razor clams, I was wondering about that.
Great reviews Tom, you never disappoint
I have had this same vehicle for about two months, absolutely love it.
Great review. Your road trip reviews are always great. We get to see some cool spots to visit ourselves. A Driven Road Trip series would be cool

Wish you showed more reality driving the urban jungle . Wanted to see the Crosstrek dodging kids on tricycles, and how it handled potholes . Also braking capability when cars pull in front of you on rolling stops. Awesome review and Ryan did a great job with the real off-road capability of this great vehicle

Tom, after all those years behind a TV camera you walked away with some seriously mad skills. Great review! Excellent camera work, well written dialogue and seamless editing. You are a pro and it shows. -I'm the guy who stopped you to chat on Saturday in front of my house. Hope your Maverick shoot goes more smoothly than this one did... ;-)

Thanks for the very well explained video. I wonder if you think Subaru will offer a heated steering wheel in the US next year like they offer for Canada. Thank you. Oh and what beach were you on?
Maybe you could somehow attach an AirTag to your GoPro so it'd be easier to find if/when it falls off the car? Great review. I just bought one of these and am quite happy with it so far.
I want a Crosstrek STI with a 6-speed manual, the Turbo with 305 hp and 290 lb-ft torque, and an ultra Premium interior with minimal cheap plastic.

Thank you for a great review Tom!! I certainly enjoy your channel :), I do own a 2015 Crosstrek Premium model, and I wish I could get the new Wilderness edition :( , but right now I can not justify the much higher price of it, and one issue that is very frustrating and and that I contacted the Subaru company about is, why would a FRONT CAMERA not be included in the Wilderness, it is in the Forester and Outback, would it be that much more money to install? Oh well, the Subaru Rep I spoke to could not give me any reasons why, but you would expect all the "Wilderness" level models to include it, it is a safety issue, how are you supposed to "see" ahead on a risky trail. Do you know how much it would cost to install an aftermarket camera system? if that's even possible. Thank you again! MC

I'm sure there's a local outfit that could hook you up with some sort of front facing camera, but I have no idea what it would cost or who would do it. Check with an off-road, specialty outfitter or shops that do car stereos. Anyone else have an idea?
Thanks!

great vehicle for the money.
It was nice that you shared a little personal time on here. Gives your videos much more personality than just about the car; its about the people living with the car too. My only gripe is on the power and efficiency of this rig. We all know there can be a hybrid, a more powerful engine. Feels like they are still a generation or maybe 2 still behind the rest of the on-road cars.
+1 to Tom's rear vents (missing) observation. Wth? Also, I think I would pay extra for a Stealth Package: de-badging and more subdued cladding.

I don't like to be the guy to pause the video and comment before finishing the video, but I would happily get an ill-advised loan to buy a Subaru BRZ Wilderness model. 1:01 You know industry insiders, Tom, right? Make this happen! lol

I was hoping that the 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness would offer the 2.4-liter turbo engine. The 2.5-liter engine which is standard is a little on the gutless side especially when driving on the mountain highways here in Northern California. Your videos are always very interesting and professionally done. Thank you for another review.
What you didn’t bring your evil twin to the beach with you?!
Room for jerky, trail mix, AND requisite Nalgene bottle. 😬. The giant screen is a bummer. Too slow. They should have just made the horizontal 8” screen and 10” and left HVAC knobs in place. But the 11.6” screen must be cheaper…
Y'all should go get geoduck next time Tom!

Have you taken one off road?
Why isn't there any mention of the many engine failures that subaru have? Piston ring land failure has become the new head gasket issue with numerous subaru boxer engines. A piston ring land failure is a catastrophic engine failure and that boxer engine doesn't help , and a cvt , really?
Why did Subaru use a CVT? This is the reason I don't buy a Subaru because of the CVT. I owned two foresters in the past and loved the automatic transmission. Subaru get rid of the CVT and go back to a normal automatic transmission.
$36k... Wow, that seams high for a crosstrek... Wilderness or not... (Great review though!!!)

$37k??? Ford Bronco Sport please for that money 😮
No the athlete in this segment is the Ford Bronco Sport Badlands 2.0 Ecoboost - 250 HP... I have one, complete rocket ship with a true rally-derived rear diff. Dad-fast, but still fast. I hate the transmission though, what a GM-Ford failure.
All that Gold trim is certainly eye catching. Not in a good way though. Cadillac from days of yore would be proud! Homage to some of the 90's Toyota's too!
I was a ranger and swore when I left service- I'd NEVER have anything with that dull green again. ha. kidding- sort of-- but I LOVE this same car in that sapphire blue.. and as to the chevys, fords, etc.-- they are nice- but don't perform as well as this does-- and won't last nearly as long either. (and I'm NOT that big a fan of Subarus- even though I sold them for a few years). They are nice, well made and perform pretty well- (other than being laggy on the street).. but to me, still FEEL (and that's a FEELING mind you- NOT fact) laggy, Tinny (cheap), and just not well made.. (repeat- FEEL that way to me- NOT fact.

Pacific Northwest? Never heard of it. Must be in Europe or something.
As someone who has driven a recent Crosstrek extensively, I absolutely hate how slow this car is and how much road noise seeps into the cabin. The four cylinder engine struggles during acceleration, especially up long hills. Not really sure if the entire segment is this bad, but the off roading/AWD functionality and fuel economy are really the only two positives about this car.

Was it a 2024? Cause this one is not that.
“Off road Scout badge”, let’s think about the requirements to earn this merit. Things you’ll NEED even for mild off-road adventures: full size spare. Well that’s the end of the evaluation. First requirement not available. No need to look any further. Also why is every Subaru Crosstrek, Forester and Outback review only ever the Wilderness trim?

Seriously ugly but appearance is subjective. The owner would be doing the world a favour spending maximum time in the woods.
Now taking lesbians deeper into the bush than ever before. Subaru!
Wrangler parked next to Subaru? Sure, but also next to a Corolla that also did not have any trouble getting there. Boy, is this Crosstrek ugly inside and outside! All that cladding and a humongous "I want to be a Tesla" screen. The first Crosstrek was the nicest.
