Your batteries thermal management system won't work unless it's plugged in. If it's really hot or cold it's better to have it plugged in.

only one thing i dont like it is so low ground clearance. little higher the front bumper scratches a road when you drive to main road from subsidiary roads.

If you start with a full charge and use hybrid mode exclusively, I’m curious how many miles can you clock on the odometer before the battery is depleted? I’m in a similar situation with no home charging so I’m curious.

If you start with a full charge (or really, any state of charge), in hybrid mode the battery will never fully discharge. The car will decide what energy source to use "on the fly" and will always devote enough power to the battery to keep it charged. EV mode is different. In that setting, the engine (normally), does not run at all. You are able to drive around 80km (50 miles), on battery alone. Once the battery dies the hybrid system takes over. Very clever. We love our 2024 Prime.

It is best to avoid using Charge mode, this will burn fuel than just running in straight hybrid, since there are losses in energy conversion. Also, if you do not want the charge cable to lock, there is a setting to modify this. You can have it always lock, always unlock, or auto-unlock when charged. Lastly, if charging away from home and there is a cost for charging, it is rarely worth it in a Prius Prime, due to the (relatively) small battery and slow charge speed. It is usually cheaper to just use gas… be sure to do the math. 😉

Battery size and charging speed have nothing to do with it being "worth it."

  • @kevinsargent6282

@@aluisious So… if you find a public L2 charger that charges $2/hr (for example), you would plug in anyway? 4 hours of charging would cost you about $8 to regain those 40 miles, vs if you just use gas, it might cost you $3 or so, depending on your fuel prices. And you don’t care? Must be nice to be that wealthy. Therefore, my position is public charging is only “worth it” (financially) in a Prius if it is free (or included with paid parking anyway), otherwise gas is virtually always cheaper to consume over paying public charging rates for L2, mainly because the 3.5kw charger throttles the charge rate so much. If it had the 6.6kW like the RAV4 Prime (and higher fuel consumption), the math would be a lot closer.

Trip mpg doesn't make sense from almost full your topping out at 330 miles of range shouldnt it be more like 600 in range

I can not speak as to what it says on the dash about range. I know my range is increasing as I break the vehicle in. I purchased it Dec 9 2023 with a full tank. It is now Feb 5, 2024. I have only filled the tank twice. I have put 900 miles on it. I charge the battery at work once a week. It seems one of my concerns is how to burn off the existing fuel?

gas is heavy, the heavier the car the more it has to work, the lower the range. If you are going to do EV only just have 1/3 of a tank of gas in the case you need it.

do you own any EV or tesla. Buy tesla is the only way people can go on long trip. If people can access to L2 charger at home, it is very convenience, other wise it is paint in the A to charge the EV either super charge or L2 charge at chargepoint station.
