    I’m 6’0”, 205lbs, age 65 and skied the 172 Enforcer 94 extensively in last season in Jackson Hole. I’m normally on 177-179s . I found them to be versatile, powerful, and confidence inspiring all-mountain skis. At my age I like the shorter turn radius for bumps and steeps. The limitation is probably speed in wide open terrain but they are certainly fast enough for me!

    Great video with excellent footage as always! You could really see the difference in the way you all skied on the different lengths. As someone who skied an Enforcer 88 in a 186 for almost 3 seasons, I can say now looking back that I should have bought a 179. That shorter length would have been perfect 90% of the time.

I have a 2019 Nordica Enforcer 94 in 184 length, I'm 67 and I still love skiing fast, Sierras and Rockies mostly , but I think my next ski will have to be lighter, quicker, more playful and shorter in a mid 90 width as I need to have all mountain versatility. Well done you three. So much good footage! Thanks for skier/length stamping. Lots of snow out there. Bone dry here in Minnesota. I listened to a podcast the other day with Ted Ligety as a guest. Not surprised when he stated that 93cm was optimum for a daily driver. So many great choices in the low to mid 90's range. I can't see myself dropping to a 179 in this ski. I'm just not a bump aficionado any more. The 186 would be perfect.

    I concur... this is a great format. Do more videos like this. Smart to make use of the time of the chair and talk about length differences. I used to ski longer skis, but now my skis (except my dedicated deep powder skis) are all 172-179cm length. I am 6 foot 190 pounds. Shorter skis are great up to about 55 mph. But I hardly ever ski that fast anymore. And the shorter length, especially with a heavyish ski like the Enforcer 94, offers a sense of nimbleness in the trees and bumps.

    Even I (5f10, 205 pounds) that likes to go fast, 179 is more than I need in 95% of the times. Its like unless im in steep and tight terrain or there are too many people on the slopes I have to slow down... sounds plenty powerful for me 😂 It works in moghuls and trees, but they are too demanding and I have to acknowledge I didnt notice how much bumps runs I seek out before getting enforcers 😂

    Stability at speed is more impressive when you're in a purely carved turn vs. on a straight away trying to max out mph. This is the most impressive part of the Enforcer 94, in my mind--total control and confidence in a mid-radius pure arc.

    I demoed the 94 at copper a couple of years ago in a 179. I liked them but appreciated my 186 line prophet 90's after getting back on them the next day. I like the stability of the longer ski when you really start to throttle them up. That's why I chose a 186 with my enforcer 100's. I'm 5-10 190lbs advanced skier 58years old. I have also been skiing a 190 ski since I was 16 years old. Will probably shorten up my skies the day I feel they are too much to handle

It was a tough decision between the 179s and 186s but since I mostly ski on piste I figured the 186s would challenge me more and be more fun on the groomers. After listening to Matt talk about the 186s on trail I think I made the correct decision.

    I'm 6-0" 205lb 40 y/o and I ski the enforcer 94 in 186 cm. I ski 90% on Piste, and occasionally duck into the trees with my son(slower speeds). I'm in love with these Skis, the top end threshold hasn't been hit on the skis. The stability and dampness seems limitless. I will say at really slow speeds, especially early in the season getting my ski legs again, I'm prone to a few embarrassing flops way under 10 miles an hour. I attribute that to the weight and torsional stiffness (and mostly my clumsiness)

    That was fantastic! How do you think the 94 or 88 compare to something like a Head E rally in terms of carving?

  • @SkiEssentials

    @SkiEssentials

    7 ай бұрын

    It's a different world. The Rally is far quicker edge to edge and more precise, so better from a traditional perspective as a carving ski. Skis like the Enforcer 94, however, allow for really deep trenches and high edge angles, with a little more smoothness. You definitely lose some precision, but it's one of those give/take scenarios.

  • @SkiEssentials

    @SkiEssentials

    7 ай бұрын

    As an Enforcer 88 owner in the 186, I don't think I'd have as much success going to the 179. The reduction overall in mass from 94 to 88 is going to naturally take the sting of the length off a bit, and with narrower skis, having that extra length equates more to stability. Enforcer 94 vs. Declivity 92, the Enforcer has more substance to it while Declivity has more style. You can be more creative and playful with your turn shapes and styles on the Armada while the Enforcer is a bit more locked in to that powerful carve. Enforcer can do other things, it's just not as easy as in the Declivity.

  • @stuyboy

    Skiing in Sierra Cement, I find that 93/94 is perfect most days since we are a feast/famine type snow pattern (most of the time, famine). In a 4 ski quiver, Rustler 9 in a slightly longer length is good when snow is not as hard-packed. Pow day I'd get rid of the metal and up the underfoot, and groomer day is best on a sub-90 in a longer length (currently using MindBender 90). I really don't understand the Enforcer in 100+ and 88, IMHO. The Enforcer is made to be a mid-width ski that gets you through the day when the snow isn't fresh, and better in a slighter shorter length vs height/weight than conventional.

    Hey guys, love this format! I’m still stuck on what to choose for the wider ski in my quiver for mainly Ontario groomers (low vertical, and the runs get chopped up by noon). Something in the 90’s? I’m looking for a ski with a surfy feel and maneuverable- able to cut through some crud and also zip around bumps, but a strong enough build to support me at 6’3 / 300lb. Probably a tall order, but hoping you could shed some light on that. The skis that look like they’d be ideal are: Enforcer, rustler, mindbender, kendo/mantra, maybe lightweight options like the sender, Kore and maverick? I currently have a firebird HRC 76 and a FIS slalom ski, but they are a handful on choppy/slushy days. Any advice would be appreciated!

  • @SkiEssentials

    @SkiEssentials

    7 ай бұрын

    I always feel like something in the dual-metal laminate family works best for larger/more powerful skiers. Enforcer 94 is a great choice--I do think Rustler and the lighter options may leave something to be desired. Mantra is a bit more precise than the Enforcer--I kind of like the Nordica better when it comes to tip to tail stability and power. Mid-90's is great and will offer you more of a distance between the HRC and whatever you end up with on the wider end. I'd narrow focus to the Mantra and the Enforcer 94. Of those, Mantra is a stronger carver while the Enforcer has some more versatility to it.

I'd take a square look at the Elan Ripstick 88--great carver that is light and floaty enough for when the snow flies. Armada Declivity 88C is another great choice, and if you're looking for something a bit more on-trail/carving oriented without losing too much all-mountain versatility, the Rossignol Experience 86 Basalt is another good choice.

    Hi! I am a great fan. Also a very satisfied owner of enforcer 88 186cm. Do you know what is the base bevel of the skis you were skiing in this video? I have found that my enforcer 88 is much more manageble in technical terrain if i just put 1.5 base bevel on contact points of the camber in the tips and tails for about 10-15 cm towards the bindings. In this way tips and tails are slightly less reactive, but will hold on higher edge angles. Also, enforcers as very strong skies are friendlier if skied with boots that have more forward lean. Cheers

    I picked up a pair of the 94’s, rather than the 88, in 179 as a result of this! I do mostly on trail steeps but only a few times a year Vermont and with variable conditions the 94 seems great as “one-ski quiver” My question is about what bindings to put on. I typically like a lower height but have heard vague comments about downward pressure to the tips or some sort of that for the Enforcers. If I pass on a standard Marker, would an Attack 14 be better than a Pivot 14 or something comparable?

  • @SkiEssentials

    @SkiEssentials

    4 ай бұрын

    We pair these skis with Attack 14's all the time and they work great. Low height (which I can't really speak to the downward pressure theory), metal frame on the heel, and a static AFD all make for a reliable and high performance binding. The Pivot 15 is a better upgrade than the 14 since you move into the full metal toe housing here.

Spent the day at Timberline yesterday on a pair of 172 Enforcer 94s and liked them a lot, except for the weight. I'm 5'9", 178 lbs. I felt comfortable on all groomers and crud, a little less so in the bumps, but had a blast when the opened Magic Mile to 10-12" of untracked powder. • @SkiEssentials

    @SkiEssentials

    7 ай бұрын

    The Kore is a slightly more direct comparison when it comes to performance in a carved turn, but weight-wise it's more similar to the QST. Kore delivers very strong edge grip and is very stiff and responsive. It's not quite as damp or powerful overall as the Enforcer, but for its weight, it does come pretty darn close. QST 98 is a lot more rockered and tapered, so while the on-trail performance is lacking compared to the 93 and 94, the off-trail versatility and powder flotation are far beyond Nordica or Head.

    I'm 169 cm tall and 85kg intermediate/advanced skier 42 years old. I'm going to Colorado on Febraury, what length you recommend for me ?

    I'd go 165 unless you know you prefer longer skis.

    Im between rustler 9 and declivity 92ti for 70% groomers and 30% moguls and bumps .. what is the best ski in your opinion?

    There's a lot more activity and response in the Declivity. That makes it an excellent groomer ski. I think it's worth the slight hit in bump performance--Rustler makes it easier to maneuver in bumps, but I don't think it's necessarily a better performing mogul ski. I'd lean to the Armada.

    Ha! I've gone the other way. As a 100 and an 88 owner, I'd trade them both for a 94.

    Help! I’ve been looking at tens of different options for a new all mountain ski but can’t really settle on one… I’m an advanced to expert skier and enjoy carving and pushing the ski fast, at the same time I also like a playful and “jibby” style of skiing. Off piste I mainly have access to wooded and relatively narrow terrain typical of the western Italian alps. I’m looking for a pretty energetic and powerful ski that can grip on most kinds of snow on piste but is still nimble and playful on the side of the trail and off piste… I’d appreciate any tips! As of now the Risptick 96 caught my attention, not sure if black edition or normal. Qst 92, stance 96, declivity 92 ti, ranger 96 are also contenders. I’m 178 cm tall and around 80 kgs.

    Sounds like you're looking for a QST 92 as I've found that ski to have an excellent blend of jibby style and responsiveness. It can really do a whole lot of different things at a high level, and while power may be on the lower end of the spectrum, especially when compared to a Stance or Declivity, overall, it's an amazing ski. I'd narrow focus to the QST and likely in the 176.

    @@SkiEssentials I appreciate you help! I ended up ordering the Declivity 92ti in size 172 after watching your review with Matt, it’s not as jibby as the QST 92 but I’d think the shorter size makes it still pretty nimble, would you agree?

    @@Tazio_01 I think that's fine. It's a sturdy ski so no real need to reach.
