2024 Neuralink Update - First Human Implant

Ғылым және технология

After getting FDA approval last year, Neuralink has successfully completed their first in-human implantation. Ryan shares the latest news and updates in this information packed episode. Elon gave an update a couple days ago on an X Space. Oddly enough, Vladimir Putin heard about this first implantation and commented on it. There's been a lot of discussion regarding the latest VR/ AR tech product- the Apple Vision Pro. Ryan compares this functionality to a Neuralink. Ryan then goes into more investigative detail to learn about Neuralink's testing procedures. Following a (bogus) Delaware court ruling on Elon Musk's pay package at Tesla, Neuralink has officially moved out of Delaware and reincorporated in the state of Nevada.

Ah, nah. I think that I'm happy to forget my dreams after a while as they are the weirdest shit that I have ever seen... But the dream I had this night could have been a movie or TV series as it was quite cool and advanced, it was kind of about different criminal groups who tries to go back in time and outsmart each other by changing events back and forth, while the past and present kind of existing at the same time. I don't remember the specifics any more than that it was a historic day that was changed so it was illegal to talk about it and then it was changed to a heroic day and then another group tried to get back in time for another agenda. Now that I think about it tou would just need one location to be built found for that episode 🤔😅👌

The big question is whether or not receiving this brain implant will even be a choice or will it be mandatory as part of our "Social Contract". My guess is that this will eventually become mandatory in order to protect public health and safety.

I think the Vision Pro really showed that without a brain interface(be it implanted like neural link or external) AR headsets will never feel exactly right. That headset has probably the best way to interact with a headset without proper physical controls right now and it’s not good enough from what I’ve seen in the reviews.

I should try reapplying to Neuralink soon. It's important to note, that for more advanced applications, we'll need to interface with larger portion of the brain. That might be innitially achieved with few Neuralink chips, or maybe a larger future device. Later, probably another type of device (mesh embracing the brain or such) would be needed for full scale capabilities. The current Neuralink is the most important first step towards that. I would put one in my brain, if it has good applications and if it's available for wider public. Some of the concerns I would have though are, how it would react to vigorous exercises, like weightlifting, box jumps, running and such. Also, I wonder, if it happens that you have to defend yourself into a fight, or if you slip and fall on the floor, would it whitstand such impacts...

DBS Deep Brain Stimulation Implants have been used for decades for movement disorders such as Parkinson's, Essential Tremors, and Dystonia. TMS and similar procedures that target areas of the brain without surgical incisions are being used for tourettes, severe depression, and other conditions. Neurolink seems to be an offshoot of these procedures that also target the brain but actually provide a communication system with outside sources by using the body's own neurons to effect that communication. The concern will always be the interference of outside forces that could compel thoughts or behaviors that would not be under the control of the individual with the neurolink device. Until that would be assured I am not sure this would be a choice made by anyone who had no physical or mental disability that required the neurolink device for the individual to function normally or at least better than without the device.

With orders for 200,000 headsets, and the amount they'll receive will be about $1,000,000,000 so the price per headset is $1,000,000,000 divided by 200,000 which equals about $5,000 per headset. Why didn't they just say that???

Currently neural link is, one way it receives information from the brain. to get vision like in the Vision Pro you need input. i'm not saying it can't be done it's just a fundamentally different process. I can definitely see a hybrid system where a pair of normal looking Glasses can do most of the heavy lifting. NeuroLink will need to do this for the blind anyways

Like measuring the steam from a steam engine, finding a correlation between density of steam and engine function and then claiming you have measured and captured engine torque. May be of some pragmatic utility, but tells you nothing about how the engine functions. So, do not confuse utility with understanding (It makes a difference. We have used fire for 100s of 1,000s of years; but until we understood the nature of heat (molecular motion -- at least as of today) our ability to utilize this energy source was limited).

Hello yes I'm looking for answers to a question I've had for years about neurolink. Can it be used to connect a brain where it's been damaged by a bullet.to make my body whole again. I walk,i have 38% of use of my left arm . I have drop foot. I have been sitting for over 39 years. I have signed civilian military application, Embry-Riddle aeronautics, I'm not meant for civilian living please help me

This has been a staple of Sci Fi for a very long time. I see it as inevitable. It is just a matter of advancing the tech, time, experiments and this will be as every day as cell phones and laptops and WiFi and all the rest. I am old enough at 59 to remember when ALL of that was Sci Fi. Welcome to the future. We are living in very interesting times.

@@Gabe-cobalt Things will change once this becomes as common as cell phones, PC's of all sizes, Wi Fi being everywhere have become so ubiquitous. I strongly suspect the greatest initial impact will be in the military. Weapons systems controlled at the speed of thought. The initial limitations will be in how much data the user can integrate. But computer support will advance to the point where a tank like an M-1 for example would have a single crew man who can drive, scan for targets, engage those, reload with faster auto loading systems, scan for threats and react to them. Aircraft are already at the limit of what the pilots can stand as have been sine the F-16. Add attacking and defending at the speed of thought directly connected to the planes systems. A military without this capability will be in very real trouble. Science research done at the speed of thought where the people are able to communicate mind to mind and with the computers that way will push everything you can think of to new heights of knowledge. Cure cancer. Practical fusion. Just two possibilities.

I live in Sacramento, California. Also, reading a few comments and hearing some thoughts on this subject. I've heard some parts of an argument about some kind of social contract or we will lose our spiritual abilities, etc. Well, this may be true in some instances...Wouldn't we be able to use this kind of technology to overcome those thought patterns? Haven't we as a human species already been in some kind of controlled narrative or mental state of control, for lifetimes or millennia? And most of the reason was and is, can be the lack of access to information and the application of such information. Does that sound feasible?

Whilst an advance, there is a way to go. It might move quickly, or it might take a long time. We need to factor in that humanity are exploring how the brain works at the same time as exploring how to integrate technology with the brain. And there is a long way to go to understand the brain. As such, this is a slower process than people will want, where we mostlikely over estimate how much things may change in the short-term, and underestimate change in the long term. This can lead to dissatisfaction, so please keep excited, but try to understand the rate of change.

This is absolutely amazing! I became interested in "Musk" technologies as a rocket enthusiast. I went on to learn more about The Boring Company, Tesla, Neuralink, and all things sustainable energy wise besides SpaceX over the past 5-10 years. Besides my passion for Rocket Science and related aerospace fields my other passion is politics. As much as I would like to separate, the "Musk" from the politics and all the many benefits his visionary innovations towards the sustainability and survivability of the human race are concerned. I cant understand how supporting a dictatorship over a democracy makes sense at any level. I don't understand how thinking critically and accepting life within a dictatorship can coexist.
