Nasto, instead of burning those dry maize stalks why don't you take them to your kitchen garden as mulch to shelter the soil from the intense sun? Also to help the soil retain water for longer when you water the plants. Eventually the stalks will rot and turn into soil.

@its_nasto Nasto, you could put a small gate at the bottom of the garden where the wire mesh ended. Having only one gate is not very convenient unless it was in the middle.

Every summer we visit my aunt who grinds corn for grits and corn cornmeal. She harvests corn and beans. It's tiring Grits and fish or curry goat, peas and grits with stew fresh cow beef 😋
