Hongqi H9 Review
The car you see is the Hongqi H9, a flagship luxury sedan that is packed with features and is out to change people’s opinions about Chinese luxury. For those of you who aren’t quite aware of Hongqi, it is a brand that is associated with a lot of prestige, as it is the oldest Chinese passenger car maker in the world. Now that you’ve got an idea of what we are dealing with, let’s jump right in.
Drive
Here in the UAE, the Hongqi H9 is available with two engine options: a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 248 horsepower and a more powerful 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine that produces 279 horsepower.
Our test car is the 3.0-liter model is equipped with air suspension, meaning the ride is extremely smooth and that bumps in the road are almost unnoticeable. With 400 Nm of torque, the H9 never feels underpowered, but if you do have a lighter foot, you will be happy to know that NEDC fuel consumption averages stand at 9.0-liters for every 100 kilometers, which is extremely impressive for a car of this size.
When it comes to driving aids, the H9 has a lot to offer. There’s everything from a driver attention monitor to autonomous braking that kicks in if the driver doesn’t respond in time and blind-spot monitoring to lane departure alert. There’s also adaptive cruise control and automatic parking that make each and every drive in the all-new Hongqi H9 a safe and enjoyable one.
Interior
With a choice of four interior color options, the cabin is a spacious and comfortable place to be in. There’s leather on the seats, leather on the dashboard, leather on the door panels, and leather on the center console as well. The feeling of luxury is further heightened with wood and piano black trims as well as silver piping on the steering wheel, dashboard, and center console.
The design is very clean and minimal and that is made possible with two large screens - one for the instrument cluster and one for the infotainment screen - working as the central command center. With very few buttons and knobs, the cabin looks modern and welcoming and can be lit up in a choice of 253 colors using the ambient lighting system.
In the back, the H9 is just as comfortable, luxurious, and spacious, meaning that whether you are driving or being chauffeured in it, you are bound to have a great experience. There is plenty of space in terms of headroom and legroom, and comfort is provided by zero-gravity seats and a 4-zone climate control system.
Features
When it comes to the features that set the H9 apart, there’s a panoramic roof, seat heating and cooling for the front and back seats, a brilliant 12-speaker Bose audio system, an AQS air quality monitoring system, and a 360-degree camera system.
Exterior
The Hongqi H9 has an identity of its own and it is bound to turn heads wherever it goes. The large chrome grille which makes it look commanding and luxurious is flanked by a set of Matrix LED headlights and the sleek red line that runs down the hood is no coincidence. There’s a thin red stripe on the fenders and if you were to approach the car at night, you’d notice a red welcome light as well.
Depending on the version you opt for, there are three alloy wheels you can choose from, 18-inch, 19-inch like we have on our test car, or the optional 20-inch. What remains standard on all; however, are the cool pop-out door handles that give the car an extremely sleek and aerodynamic design when not in use.
Verdict
The Hongqi H9 is the newest and most luxurious car to come out of China. It looks very different to anything else out there and you are bound to feel special each time you drive it. Giles Taylor is a British car designer. He is the current vice president of design and chief creative officer for the Chinese state-owned FAW Group’s Hongqi marque. Taylor worked as a chief designer for Rolls-Royce, Jaguar and as an exterior designer for Citroën. His designs include the eighth generation Rolls-Royce Phantom and the redesigned Jaguar XJ (X351).

Priced between $45k-$79k USD, the H9 is powered either by a two-liter turbocharged gasoline engine plus a 48V mild hybrid system with 185 kW (252 hp) or a three-liter supercharged gasoline engine with 208 kW (283 hp).

So many idiots in the comment section saying this is a copy of other car brands, ignoring the fact that the design was drawn from the scratch by Giles Taylor (ex RR and Jaguar designer). Now I do believe more that many people are simply prejudice according to their obsolete stereotypes and beliefs about everything Chinese, still living in the past decades.

Everyone seems to be concerned with what other car models it appears to look like. This may be relevant, but what is more interesting to me is the overall quality of manufacture of the car. Is it as well made as it looks? I am old, and when I was a child, anything from Japan was considered to be cheap junk. Now, if it is made in Japan, you can pretty much bet that it is well made. China may be following suit.

Интересная машина. Впервые видел предыдущую модель (2023) на дорогах у нас в городе, могу сказать что внимание привлекает, причем именно внимание с интересом, а не из зависти. Машина действительно большая. По размерам кузова, он лишь немного короче того же Lexus ES (2023).

yes it's mixture of various models but Not bad for the first attempt, the exterior very appealing and have strong present on the street, especially when compared it with midsize luxury cars from other countries, where this car marketed as direct competitor to european, korean and japanese mid sized luxury car's, but the exterior design gives the feeling of higher segment... the interior is a mixture of good things like the some elegant designing lines, the seats which superior to the Japanese Lexus LS, and the steering wheel designing which heavily inspired by bentley and all the interior is covered with good quality soft leather, and below average like the mid console design and some material used which is to simple and have cheap feeling especially when compare it with the designing of dashboard and mid console with Lexus LS, and we can see similar design in most Chinese electric cars even the same material and distribution for operating instruments, on the other hand this design not far away from other main cars manufacturer around the world thats utilized the LCD panels... Once again, as a first attempt to compete in the luxury car market, the design of the HonggiH9 is considered a very competitive from a commercially, the car is intended to compete within the category of med-sized luxury cars, but it gives the impression that it is from the category of the flagships luxury cars from other major car manufacturers, especially since this car is equipped with an internal combustion engine and is not like the rest of the Chinese luxury cars in working on electricity...

If they added analogue you will say they copied RR like how do you expect them to build their car like a house? Common bro you use tires 🛞, wheels and other cars part right. Do you even know most of western innovations have been made in China for the last 200 years? I Care more about American 🇺🇸 but spending time saying other are copying our future technology of 2900 let put our division aside and works all together to become more powerful. I don’t care who is the first power all I can about is do all American live well? We can be maybe first but as long as the homelessness’s is hight 80% of citizens live paycheck per paycheck and this while doing 2 jobs doesn’t make us first we should redistribute our resource with the people stop taxation and reduce the cost of living and healthcare.

In my opinion luxury means not having to sacrifice or adjust to new technology and it doesn't matter what's trending. Either you integrate the new with the old or you give me what I'm familiar with

It is affordable for those who can't afford a brand name like Audi, Bmw, or Mb. And lately, some of these top brands are charging more for vehicles with lesser quality parts. The Audi Q7 suffers from frequent visits to the mechanic. Leaking water pump after 50,000 mi. 2 of 5 score is ridiculous for a so-called German Engineering brand. Of course, this H9 will have issues , but with continuous driving, issues will be corrected. My 98 Civic hatchback already has 515,000 miles and is still going . A car was made to be driven, and that includes serious driving. None of this driving to and back from the market deal. 😅😅😅

@blackmice1 Exactly. My 98 Honda Civic will go through a complete rebuilding in a week. It is best to do so while the block is cracks or other damages. 80 % original Honda parts, including oil pump. Another 200,000 miles in addition to the 515,000 miles it has, I will be happy. Yes, older cars can bring value to the buck. Blessings.
