There’s a lot wrong here; most of it because this is a very different hybrid system than you think it is. So I’ll go in order. 2:05 “I don't think you could go full EV over 25 miles an hour” It can - and does - use only battery-power at *_any_* speed. But it is limited by acceleration. At twice the speed, you need twice as much power for the same acceleration. There’s a video at kzread.info/dash/bejne/qH56sMWmiNu0eqg.html that shows it happening up to 50 mph in a similar system in the Honda City/Jazz. In my 2018 Accord, I typically spend 1/4 to 1/3 of the time in EV drive while cruising at 65 mph. But the common misconception is that EV drive uses no gas. It does. It is using gas that you burned earlier. The reason it is used, is because the engine is most efficient if it generates the power that is needed to cruise at about 75 mph. So at, say, 35 mph? It will generate the 75-mph power and save half of it in the battery. When enough is saved, which depends on the drive mode you pick (ECON, NORMAL, SPORT), it will go “full EV.” But above 70 mph there is little reason to do this, even though it could. 2:22 “There's regenerative braking that charges the [battery]…” While that is true, it uses more charge to return to the same speed. So regen does not contribute to net charge. What I described above does. 2:33 “I'm not seeing a turbo attached to this four-cylinder unfortunately.” Why would you want one? The engine doesn’t propel the car, except when cruising. It is, essentially, an EV that is powered by a battery and a generator, instead of just a battery. A turbo extends the range of rpm where you can get good torque. But it doesn't affect efficiency much. (But you can get by with a smaller engine, which does.) A hybrid‘s engine is tuned to the Atkinson cycle, which decreases the torque and range, since a wide range is not needed, while it improves efficiency. 3:08 “You got to take into consideration cold cranking amps.” No, you really don’t. It is the hybrid battery, not the 12V battery, that starts the engine. The 12V powers the electronics that control the system, so you do need it to “start” the car. But that doesn’t start the engine. If you need to “jump” the 12V, you just need to connect another 12V (not a 14.5V charger) to it. The system will start, and the hybrid battery will recharge the 12V. 4:46 “There's a nice little handy dandy funnel … you don't want to Spill the oil or the gas.” The funnel is for gas only, DO NOT use it for oil. It is to get past the capless fuel system, if you need to add gas from a portable gas can. If you don't use the funnel, you can damage the capless system. 9:37 “They like to put the paddles here so if you're on the highway and you're revving so hard you could just tap that paddle shifter to bring it down for you.” The paddles have absolutely nothing to do with shifting - in fact, the car doesn’t shift. Anything that sounds like it is simulated for the people who think it helps. In fact, it hurts - it is why the 2023+ hybrids get lower mpgs than the 2018-2022s. What the paddles do, is adjust the maximum level of regenerative braking for near one-pedal driving.

This is awesome when I get more time I’ll read this in detail…. I love how you included the time stamps to raise your points ! The stinken dealer was the one who told me about no full ev over 25 mph lol so I gotta dig a little deeper

This is all true. I have the same system in my Honda and it’s difficult to explain but it works very well. I recently was told, unequivocally, by the service receptionist at my dealership that the hybrid battery in the back is water cooled. He was emphatic to the point that I re-checked the handbook, which told me not to cover the intake for the air cooling of the hybrid battery. The receptionist had told me this vent intake was to release hot air from the battery, into the cabin of the car. Really! I knew I was correct but his huge confidence unsettled me. The lesson, sadly, is not to trust anyone. I can cope with people not knowing things, that’s understandable, but telling customers total untruths is ridiculous.

A lot of the info on the video is not correct. More research should have been done before this review video was posted. My 24 EX-L will go full EV at 75 mph... the keys are numbered for the memory seating on current models depending on which key you have it will auto-set the driver seat to that setting. Tire sizes are 17 and 19" The Sport and Sport L and Touring have 19" the EX-L, LX and EX are 17." The paddles on the steering wheel are not shifters..... those are to the regen for the brakes.

Well said. I’m going off what the dealer told me before my drive about ev not working faster then 25 mph. Your saying I got the tire size wrong ??

Be warned: Accord Hybrids do not come with a spare tire, not even a Donut spare. The fallacy of the onboard repair kit is that very often a tire is not repairable. If you are out in the middle of nowhere with an unfixable flat you are screwed. You can call for help. Depending on where you are you may have to wait for to to a day to get help and the tow truck driver may do damage to the car which is not covered under warrantee and the Truck driver will point to some obscure language in the towing agreement that disclaims responsibility. The lack of a spare can cause a disaster.

Yep I noticed and every video I make I point that out … spares are huge and many automakers are keeping them out. If it has good suspension I do like self sealing tires

I am glad you point that out. I had a 2009 Caddy CTS with no spare. When I pointed this out to the salesman I was assured that it would be impossible to have a flat since they were special tires, but in the unlikely event i hade a flat they included a can of what looked like whipped cream. Well, I had the impossible occur: There was a piece of metal sticking out the edge of an entrance curb that tore a 2 inch hole in the sidewall. I tried the whipped cream but it just sprayed over everything. I then pressed the Onstar button to summon help and 6 hours later a tow truck showed up. they hoisted the front of the car up and towed me to a repair shop 20 miles away. The cost to replace the "unsinkable" tire was $550. I also had to have extensive repairs to the transmission that cost me another $3,000. I hope you understand why the lack of a spare tire is a big deal for me. Any car that does not have a spare is DOA for me.

Side wall damage ! Aka slashes. The whipped cream in tons of these cars ain’t going to cut it ! That’s crazy.

I'm really let down by the appearance of the new Accord 2024. It appears bulky, less attractive, and lacks the sleek style of the 2021 model. I was anticipating something even more impressive this year, but instead, it seems like they've opted for a bulky, unappealing design reminiscent of a cheap plastic soap holder with a heavy price tag. I am extremely disappointed...!
