2024 Harder & Steenbeck Evolution CR Plus REVIEW

The 2024 Evolution CR+ does not have a .28 needle or a .045 needle. Those are the sizes of the heads. It uses the standard 0.20 and 0.40 needles from the H&S range.

Thanks for the hint! You are right, it's to nozzle size not the needle size.

@@TrippyyTreyyy hey buddy - just to be clear, it's more correct to refer to the needles as 0.2x and 0.4x as the 0.2x needle is compatible with both the 0.20 and 0.28 nozzles, and the 0.4x needle is compatible with both the 0.40 and the 0.45mm nozzles.

is the comment above about the needle size not being a 0.28 or 0.45 and instead those sizes are the nozzle size correct?

  • @harderairbrush

@@TrippyyTreyyy on any brand, if a size is given, it always refers to the size of the hole in the nozzle... Needles are tapered and therefore you can't really quantify them in the same way... so really, it's more correct to talk about a needle which is compatible with a 0.28 or a 0.45mm nozzle size. Hope that makes it clearer!

Not all cheap airbrush needles are ground to the same angle on the point. I have found that if you compare various needles, the ones where the angle starts further back can cause the point to stick out further past the nozzle.

3:49 that's what the back stop is for. you turn it until it touches the needle, then slowly back it out while pulling back on the trigger. stop when you see the pattern you want. after that you're locked in

It actually will make you a better airbrush artist because you can control the paint better. When you thin the paint you will get much better control. Just because they say "ready to spray from the bottle" does not mean you should not thin it. The lower the air pressure, the thinner the paint should be.

  • @evolutionxstudios

Thank you! I actually also tested it with thinning the paint and lowering the pressure but didn’t show that explicitly in the video. But I‘m sure with some more experience it‘ll work fine!

Finally! Somebody who isn't obsessed with using paint straight out of the bottle! You get far better control with your paint when you thin/reduce it and lower your psi. Btw, I've been reading a lot of very positive reviews about this Evo 2024 and the much better trigger response...this has always been my big issue w/ H & S airbrushes that kept me from buying one. I'm pretty certain I'm going to get one of these....

H&S airbrushes are top notch and great value especially compared to Iwata (their parent company these days). The new 2024 range look to be well researched and H&S listen to their customers. Ive 3 H&S airbrushes, from previous generation, theyre excellent 👍✌️😊

Used the Evo cr plus for a month or so. I like the cap that protects the needle. 0.2 is a bit tricky with thicker paints, even thinned down. Will buy 0.4 needle and nozzle. Overall a nice upgrade to my old Ultra 👍

I use the Evolution (the "old" one), one Infinity with the 0.15-Needle setup for a few years and they are very good from my point of view. A few months ago I bought a Gaahleri GAHD 39 and a Gaahleri Mobius 0.2, they are also worth it. A little cheaper, but good quality.

I've bought last summer a 30$ airbrush you showed at the very start of the video... I've tried using a 0.2mm nozzle but being a complete beginner, I found it too difficult to use.. I put in a 0.3mm nozzle, lubricated the entire airbrush and it's made it much easier and comfortable to use.. I don't use it often enough so I still suck at it haha but the airbrush is not that bad.. I hope to get better with it in time so I can justify upgrading to an iwata or h&s...

I have the ultra & infinite with the same 0.2mm needle, I think they perform very close. The air nozzle between them make a little difference. Therefore I would say Ultra is the best entry airbrush, easy to clean, preformed very close to their flagship product. If you doesn't need the extra control function, I highly recommend it. I have try 2024 versions Ultra but I don't like it body and trigger pull also heavier, it does build-in pre set for beginners but you still have to learn manually control it to have better effects. 2024 Evolution is nice but I still waiting the 2024 Infinite

Thanks for this H&S review, I`m planning to get the Evolution to go with my Ultra 2024. I think your cheapo airbrush needle should not protrude so far so some thing is not matched up right. I have a set of Fengda cheapo airbrushes FE 183 and FE 180 which has a 0.2 needle. If you polish the cheapo needles and use Beeswax to stop the air leaks around the nozzle and aircaps they can perform as good as more expensive products ( for a while). Apart from them having PTFE needle bearings the rest of the seals are rubber so will not tolerate enamel or lacquer paints and thinners so your stuck with acrylic paint.

Your Fengda is not correctely set up, your needle must not exceed the needle cap. The 0.3 needle pairs with the 0.3 nozzle and nozzle cap, you must be using a thin 0.3 needle with one of the big nozzle (0.5 or 0.8) here that is why your control is tricky. Then for the Evo, the dilution must be way more important than with the fengda, this is why you got inconstency and low control of the trigger.

  • @evolutionxstudios

    @evolutionxstudios

Thanks for the info! I‘m pretty sure I used the 0.3 nozzle with the needle and there was no additional needle cap. But I will re-check that!
