As someone that IS a giant comic book film fan and uber MCU nerd, yes I do get up early to watch nominations being announced but I also think giving a film an award for being a huge success at the box office is asinine and so desperate on the part of the show’s organizers. The Oscars were correct in NOT creating a stupid box office/popularity award category. Time and time again people don’t seem to get that “popular” films being nominated isn’t going to move the needle when it comes to audience retention. The Globes were looking at what the Oscars almost did & said “fuck it, we’ll do it” and it all reeks of the old HFP. Whenever this subject comes up I always turn back to one of my favorite quotes ever from Don Draper on Mad Men… So what if your gigantic, popular, blockbuster film didn’t get the critical praise or get showered with an award, “THATS what the money is for!” That IS your award! Lol

@@marcochen9117 For a while people have been talking about how cool it would be for Miyazaki, one of the most respected directors in the world, to get nominated for his final film, and while I agree it's extremely unlikely, it's not something he just pulled out of nowhere here.

Pretty great that you both share this common interest in movies and that you get so fired-up over the nominations & awards. Last year I made a point to watch as many of the Oscar nominees as possible, pretty sure by the telecast I lacked very few, a documentary, foreign/international, and one of the shorts. So much easier now that streaming is an option!
