2024 Genesis G70: The car that made the BMW 3 series better!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Genesis has quietly updated the ‪@GenesisWorldwide‬ #G70, even though it didn’t really need to. The big change is in the 2024 Genesis G70 4 Cylinder but both the Turbo 4 and the 2024 Genesis G70 3.3 Twin Turbo V6 receive some updates which forces an important discussion on future of the sport sedan.

This car just feels special in a way a 3 series or Mustang or IS or S3/S4 do not. It looks unqiue, drives as good as anything in its class, has the perfect amount of tech (ie self driving goodies but physical buttons), and comes alive on a back road. I bought a new a G70 a couple months ago and I think its a worthy contrarian enthusiasts choice for a fun daily driver.

Agreed. To clarify a point from the episode: The Mustang @ US$52K, decent. At US$67K, makes one notice how well this is sorted on a road for far less money and you don't have to deal with the low rent interior. Granted not an Apples to Apples comparison, which is why you bring up the IS. A great car (you know I am a Lexus guy) but not to this level only because of the age of that platform. I would give this the nod over any Audi leaving the now better 3 series, because this exists, as the only serious competitor.

I used to have this and decided to trade it in for an electric GV70 which was VERY comfy and soft plush riding and I just fell in love, but honestly I sometimes regret my decision, because the G70 was just a BLAST to drive. I've driven an AMG C43 (the prev. gen, not the new 2.0 garbage) and an S5, and the G70 is BY FAR the best car to drive, most fun.

I bought the 2023 G70 3.3T RWD Prestige Elite. This is a seriously underrated car with so much power, balance, and they have tuned the stability control perfectly so you can hang the tail out without worrying it is going to snap around on you. It allows you to use the throttle to adjust your line through a corner. All this while being an excellent long distance car in Comfort mode. It’s been 100% reliable, needing only the scheduled maintenance. This car is a keeper! The BMW M340i was at least $15K more and not as nice, the Audi S4 was good but numb, the Mercedes C Series lineup is a complete mess, and the Acura TLX V6 SH-AWD is not as much of a driver’s car. It true these cars kind of cars focused of the driving experience and all around usefulness are getting harder to find.

Great video! I have the Stinger with the 2.5t AWD and love the balance of power/performance with practicality. I admire the G70 but chose the Stinger because of it having the sport hatch. I hope Genesis will continue the G70 and give it with a body update offering the sportback hatch.

As mentioned in the episode, I thought for certain the Stinger would crush this in the sales department but I also thought no one would buy the V6 Stinger because it was too much money, instead, they would opt for the 4. Okay fellas....let me give u all my take on the instrument cluster! Think of the two most important instruments an airman has to have....then think of the two most prominent gauges on the first automobiles. So it's got to be speed and available fuel. At least that what I'd like to know if all my other fancy tech systems went south all of a sudden on US 50 across NV. So I like to pretend that some real car guy decided to keep the two most important information inputs to a driver in a lovely, completely legible old school format. Here's where I think of a fine timepiece, like a "Roller" or Omega....it's all in the dial and bezel, right....now move ur head around as u look at the speedo....the beautiful reflection of the bezel plus the increments of the numbers....graduated superbly for ease of understanding at a glance. Bottom line, relish the absolute beauty of those instruments, cause that stuff is going away and everything will be one big electronically projected "cluster f...k" from now on!! Thank u Genesis guys for saving a dial or two for we humans who love cars that make us want to actually drive!!!!!

I bought a 2023 Mallorca Blue V6 sport prestige. It was the first “expensive” car I have been able to afford in my life and I love it. I have the all wheel drive and it is still playful (slides around) even with all the safety systems on. You can feel the influence from Hyundai/Albert Biermann. Things I wish were different, better interior colors (they do a blue/ saddle in the SUV’s), metal shift paddles. Love all your reviews motoman, from a G70 owner you nailed this one.

You’re 100% spot on 🎯 with the Stinger! The mushiness and the very early oxidation of the trim are the primary reasons that the Stinger went bye bye. I looked at this vehicle before and after the Stinger but the lack of a hatch and almost Porsche 911 levels of rear seat room knocked the G70 off of the list.

a few points. 1. i´m a sucker for white /ivory interiors. so this one looks so appealing for me. What the heck, i even find the interior of the new e-c3 from citroen appealing in the top trim with all its white bits. 2.Cars like this are why we save money. There´s no way i blow a ton of cash in an ev for a thousand reasons and a good, well balanced RWD ICE car is just so freakin´ desirable. 3. watching the video i see you enjoying it quite a bit so that gives me hope that other buyers will feel the same and hopefully they keep building this nice cars. 4. Electrification in my opinion is going into the "real" phase at this point. The average buyer, and not the "ev fan" is the one who has to make the purchase i don´t see any data pointing towards any sort of mass adoption except in some small countries were are heavily subsidized and ICE are heavily penalized. We have ICE for long time but regulators will continously try to defeat our will but ultimately there will be a reality check even for the hardest eco warrior politician so, as toyota said, there will be many electric cars but there´s no way everyone is driving evs even in few decades.

To your question: I picked up a 2024 Giulia Quadrifoglio Carbonio Edition last week. I plan on keeping it forever. Would love to see you revisit the Giulia Quadrifoglio in its last year. I think it’s really the swan song of purist sports sedans. Obviously it’s a tier above the Genesis but a 1-2 year old example is the same as a new G70 or M340i.

Ill give you one negative. That car is basically identical to the Kia Stinger, which I drove for 4 years. Awesome engine. But I am 6'2 and getting in and out of that car was a chore. I will admit I am over 50 also. Once I was in, it fit fine, but for me and nearly everyone else, the in and out were tough. Last year I bought a low mileage 2017 Genesis G90 5.0 AWD. Much easier to get in and out. I like it more than the Stinger. Not as fast (it aint slow), but I like it better for me. So, size. The G70/Stinger is not a -large- vehicle.

Shame that they are discounting all of these cars but the M340ix is a better performing car. If they provided a better tune and AWD then it might have appealed the buyers more.

@@bigden2755 But they are not always at the shop, reliability of ALL cars is way better than in the past. Yes, this is no Corolla, but it is also not at E92 or a pre IMS fix 911. I would rather have good handling with a few xtra trips to the dealer than a car that is not fun to drive that is super reliable.

Great cars when new but their engine and transmission reliability is still like Russian roulette. You might get one that works and makes it 100k no problem or a piece of junk that grenades before 50k. And that kind of unsure feeling isn't going to entice people especially when your talking almost 50k

Sorry but I owned a 2020 G70 3.3t and it was good but not great. I’d go with a M340i any day. My good friend owns a M340i and it doesn’t really compare. If you’ve never owned either of them, then the G70 would be good for you. G70 transmission is terrible. It was slow and after 1 year, it was having issues changing gears, felt clunks until it warmed up. I had brake judder multiple times and dealer wanted to charge me by the 3rd time, terrible pads from factory. Dealerships were worthless trying to fix my issues. Service was terrible , valet was non existent. They would send tech in a Uber to pick up My car. They would take it for joyrides and lunch . I’d get my car back and pass seat was all the way back and my car smelled like fast food. Terrible service and Hyundai dealers. I tried 3 diff ones. Nothing like my previous luxury car dealerships. You get what you pay for , I went G70 to give them a shot and a great price I got for the 3.3t Prestige. Loved the cooled seats though and the factory audio system. Sold the G70 in less than 2 years. M340i is amazing and sounds even better. ZF8 speed is something else paired with that B58

Motoman ignores the fact that electric engines have superior efficiency over gas counterparts. Is it on purpose? Stop the nonsense about government mandates. Nobody told GM to build a Hummer EV.

Frequent viewers know well I encourage discussion and debate in these comments. Even if we disagree. Where do we disagree on your statement? It follows along with exact cherry picking of facts to force whole industries to keelhaul themselves based on a culture war. There was no discussion. No evaluation. No testing theories in small trials before ramping up EV production. No proving if we can commercialize battery production without compromising national security or understand the geopolitical ramifications. Nothing. It was 'Climate Emergency' and if you don't agree you're the problem. This in the face of reams of data showing we can achieve cleaner air - which no one will argue with. So with that as a backdrop, another item no one is going to argue is the efficiency of electric motors. But again, cherry picking facts. Why? How do you create the energy that goes into the battery? What rogue nations do we have do deal with in order to access the minerals? Now, yes, in time, a lot of this may be solved but Brussels and Washington setting the stage for an unrealistic and aggressive transition with the mandates is irresponsible at best. Some OEMs and other stakeholders tried to warn culture warriors turned law makers, but no dice. So now, OEMs around the world (employers) and their employees will bear the brunt this colossal overreach. How did this happen? Normal people didn't stand up to the wrong people crafting critical policy. As someone who has participated in the tech boom, run businesses his entire life and been a life-long car guy, I am no longer willing to sit here and say nothing when this 'nonsense' comes into my corner of the world. So to answer your question: The US government told GM to build the Hummer EV.

@@MotoManTV Thank you for extended response. The ICE engine is lesser efficiency well to wheel than EVs, including making of the electricity. Also there are policies and incentives to source the materials from US-friendly countries already. Let's not pretend that a framework does not exist. And nobody likes to choke on smog, and the transportation sector accounts for large part of that. The dieselgate showed how much OEMs can innovate going around government mandates. If you just follow what is happening to California summers and wildfires, the climate clearly changed. You can no longer insure wildfire-prone properties... So this is not just government mandate. It's a common sense strategy to curb emissions (yes, EVs are still better even if you account for one-time battery manufacturing emissions). And let's take a look at ICE too: speculating that foreign oil will be cheap forever is highly fragile way to go about our economy. The price of oil is dictated by world market, or OPEC at best. Not the US government, especially long term. And gas tax accounts for miniscule amount of the cost, so even lowering taxes would not cause a blip. At this point running a gas car is like hoping that you win the lottery of eternal future cheap oil. Chances are US needs to maintain and extend power generation capacity to power air conditioning and other power hungry means of consumption. EVs with their night charging aren't one of those things that really cause blackouts as some may love to point out.

Appreciate your passion on the topic. While you and I agree on a couple of points here there are some key aspects that are again cherry picking and/or not true. One of the biggest misnomers of the push to electrify everything is a 'one size fits all' solution. Could not be further from the truth. Yes, there may be a 1% of 1% case in the right corner of the globe where well to wheel efficiency can be greater but one cannot make a blanket statement that is the case 100% of the time around the globe. In fact, it is the opposite. You then bring up a great point about the economics of the oil industry. No rational person in touch with economic and geopolitical stability is saying they want to rely on foreign sources of any energy - especially oil. The devil in this detail is hostile energy policies. That is what cripples every aspect of our global economy because the regulators are fighting a culture war through energy policy rather than trying to focus on clean air. Which brings us back to the mandates on OEMs. The car world was indeed a large culprit of emissions. Over the years they made huge strides in cleaning up their act - some on their own and some not so much. More importantly, they continue to improve as a moving target. However, if regulators really want to focus on clean air, they need to be looking at other actors in this telenovela. Yes, we could say logistics companies but even they are doing their part - the real movement needs to come from other nations. The US and Western Europe are doing themselves a disservice by hamstringing their economies while other world players run circles around us. This is python in waiting in the closet because it will cripple the Western world far quicker than most people will realize. Which brings us to a huge point you mentioned that is far closer to home for me, a Californian that is also a pilot. The answer to everything is *not* climate change. The wildfires you see on the news in American West - particularly California are a function of bad governance. Folks like Gavin Newsom talk a big game on 'Climate Emergency' all the while ripping apart the necessary controlled burn fire prevention budget and opening the door to risk, property and loss of life. Again, I discuss these topics in the episodes now more regularly because a culture war I NEVER asked for has creeped into my lane. Practicality and reality have been far too quiet for all the wrong reasons and it is now time for all of us to implement an old saying: 'Ask Why five times and only then you find the real answer'. Good discussion.
