    Being a diesel fan since 1996 and having owned over 12 diesels you would be hard pressed to get me out of one. In 2020 I switched to the 7.3. At first, I was disappointed but after 3 days I knew I had made the right decision. I still tow my 16k front end loader and bobcat as well as heavy wide boats on the weekend. The gas does everything the diesel does...just slower when towing. Way less maintenance and 10k less upfront. Now when we go 4x4 on trails or even pulling my camper or even my light trailers into jobsites the gas being lighter going through the mud definitely is better without all that weight upfront. What I did for the ride was go with a Carli 3" level suspension...shocks, progressive springs, track bar and a few other goodies on 37x12.5x20 tires on a 9"-wheel vs the 8.5 that came with the truck. I added Tremor valance, wheel lip moldings and running boards and she looks like a Tremor should have been from the factory. I also added dual exhaust in black to match the blackout package. For additional power and better shifting as well as recalibrate the speedo I went with 5 Star and primarily run their 87 heavy and light tow. My truck with the mods is just as quick and feels nimbler than my partner's 22 F350 with the Powerstroke. We run them side by side on the hwy and to be fair we are at sea level here on the MS coast. There will always be compromises and in 2025 Ill probably have around 95k on the odometer and will definitely get another gas from Ford. Ill look at GM's 6.6 if they increase the power and torque.

    If I drive 74mph on long runs w cruise I average 15.2mpg. 76-77mph I get around 14.6-14.7. I have 3:55 gears and those 37's don't help me any. The other thing I noticed when I changed my front valance out to the shorter Tremor, fuel mileage went down same as the 3" level. Most of the time I drive around 80 plus...the speed of the traffic here. With some city back and forth I average 12.4 daily. Towing heavy 16k I don't ever look but if I remember correctly around low 7's at 65-70mph. I believe the dual exhaust and 5 star tune helped the torque improved and where I really notice it is when pulling heavy up steep grades. @@czealtamahawk1228

    Did you buy a dually or SRW, and 250 or 350? My trailer / skid steer combo also weighs 16k. Pulling with 2007 Chevy Duramax 2500 now. 100,000 miles, does fine. I just want a new truck with new tech & a tax write off before year end 2023. Also did you go with 3.73 or 4.30 gear ratio on rear axle?

    SRW 250. We pull about the same and my boat that I trailer is around 17k. In 2020 they came with 3:55 gears vs 3.73. In late of 24 I will order a 7.3 with 3.73 gears and do exactly the same as I did with this truck. Where are you located @@southernlandscapedesigns8081

    Need to do it over a full tank. I traded a 2020 6.7 for a 2023 7.3 and don’t miss the diesel. Diesel lifetime average mpg was 16.2 with 18,000 miles on it. New 7.3 has 8,500 miles on it with a 14.9 lifetime mpg average. Going through a full tank on the diesel will allow for a regen and that will change things a little. Both trucks driven the same places on the same schedule. No need for a diesel for what most use these trucks for.

    Ill take the $9500 in initial saving from the gaser and invest it in an index fund. Should be able to turn that money into about 25k in 10 years when I am ready to buy another.

    Your fuel costs were calculated with mid grade gas. when. you calculate with 87 octane the cost is 2308 versus the 2247, a big 51 dollar saving. The EPA with its ultra low sulfur diesel requirement along with the DEF system have destroyed the value of diesel engines except for extreme towing. The extreme pressure injectors routinely. fail in less than 100000 miles and the emission system in less than that. Unfortunately diesel doesnt make sense anymore in the US. Plus the US is sending most domestic production to the countries that deserve it more like China , at least until we empty the SPG. Like your videos.

    That diesel is faster than my 2023 Mojave ha ha. Regarding the 7.3 gas I strongly prefer the port injection over direct injection. I'm still undecided which HD (GM or Ford) but I know a gas will meet my towing needs. Plus the lighter weight gas models seem more capable off-road. BTW, those eyeglasses look boss!

    Everything that is wrong with the diesel is big government trying to correct our behavior like we are children. If the government would quit monkeying around with the diesel it would push the 30mpg mark. My son in law has a 07-5.9-Cummins that he regularly gets 26mpg . Also, I think that the diesel has torque management if I'm not mistaken so you can't put down all 1050 lbft of torque all of a sudden.

  • @jayb7675
    @jayb76758 ай бұрын

    The acceleration and gas milage alone justifies the diesel. Diesels also have the street credit. Here in TX, if it’s not a diesel then you might as well be driving a Tundra. I have a 3500 diesel SRW and when I pull up to a red light next to a 2500 gasser they just look the other way. It may sound childish, but it’s a fact. A diesel is about acceleration, gas milage and most importantly the cool factor. Most could care less about towing numbers.
