What a great episode. Very balanced views. Both Dr Phosa and Mr Pillay from YW Capital have given some comfort and reassurance.
Government (Parliament) should not be about party politics. All members of parliament should do their best for the country, not their parties. At 78 I have lived all my life under a one-party government. Now's our chance to build a United South Africa. I hope ALL our politicians work towards this goal and put their egos aside. Good luck. I hope I live long enough to see the kind of country my children and grandchildren will live in.

The DA is a party that defends almost exclusively minority rights/privileges. Whenever there has been an opportunity to change this, interests entrenched in that party have undermined it. The DA policy platform doesn't address the need for increased government intervention. Infrastructure, education, crime prevention and law enforcement are very necessary to create a country that attracts internal/external investments. Otherwise we'll sit with high unemployment, crime and terrible political stability.

ANC/EFF/MK coalition is a massive business opportunity for us in the WC. Already the real estate market in CT is seeing record interest as people relocate. The WC government should now actively start courting Jhb & Dbn companies to relocate their HQ's to CT. We should convince SMEs to come set up shop in a pro-business province. Well done Mike!
Do the ppl really believe the MK or EFF will do any better...
Zuma did not decide to form his own party, he was pushed to do so
ANC And DA, have today a historical responsibility to “save” South Africa. It’s just another opinion.
Dr Phosa for President
The host sounds like he didn’t do much research about the said companies keeps bringing up. And he is very pessimistic about the fortunes of the country. Yet the numbers (fdi) do not support this. The gentleman he interviewed really tried to school him
Alec talks about them flying to India in 1991... Phosa is talking about us still poor today, can't even fly to JHB or Cape Town.., this really shows our different realities.
Agree with Mesh Pillay: You can't offer/give Social Services if you are not generating enough Capital...otherwise you have to keep borrowing untill you eventually default and become bankrupt. No country can keep spending more than it earns for very long. It seems the Government thinks the money will never run out? If our population increases while our economy remains the same, we are shrinking economically. Either the Population needs curbing or the Economy needs growing, ideally both.
Mr Matthew Phosa's comments show more maturity in both politics and the economy. He is indeed an asset for Republic of South Africa.
Genuine discussion right there ,honest inputs
I appreciate the frank & honest discussions from both guests.
You missed the most imperative question: Dr Phosa suggests a coalition with the EFF as a main ideological partner - how do their policies inspire investor confidence that he suggests the ANC is serious about? Are investors excited by talk of nationalisation and Expropriation of property without compensation?
Politics is not for the people, it's self interest period.
The ANC should educate their supporters what "The Markets" are , many think you can simply tell "The Markets" to "voetsek" and there are no consequences ... Sorry for you , there is an instantaneous response in the currency which effects the price of fuel , interest rates and employment . You can no more tell "The Markets" to "voetsek" than you can tell the tides or the ocean what to do . "The Markets" are the rest of the 8 Billion people in the world and we don't want them to just ignore us .

To thinks we've got airheads like this one as our leaders is just downright scary!
One thing I picked up from this interview is that people like Mike and the DA tend to be alarmist when their political preferences don’t win the day. When you are in government you have to balance the social and the economic interests of the country. The narrative that South Africa is not attractive to foreign investors is not entirely true. They can’t shove the DA down people’s throats. The DA might be very good administratively, wich is something business appreciates, but some of their policies have alienated the majority of the people in this country “Especially poor black South Africans”. I am not in anyways defending the ANC. It’s obvious that they could have done better.
Mr phosa please give progress a chance, DA says it is willing to work with a party that create jobs, that protects the constitution and has second majority so if interested development listen to those who have common interest in positive development of the country regardless of race.
Mr Phosa by all account is someone with a very open mind and surely in his heart and mind he for a long time knew that the ANC failed on many aspects but understandingly he has now choice but to keep on defending the ANC and the broader views even if he knows that the DA will bring so much more dynamic views and actions to the table.
Ntate Phosa thank you for your unbiased contribution. It can not be business as usual when 20mil poor people go to bed without food. We cant protect imperialism and colonialism that created the most the unequal country in the whole world! Investers should take our history into cognisance, unlike the DA that protect colonialism idiology!

Well done Mike for keeping this interview on track and not backing down on the issues of business and investment. The elephant in the room is jobs. With all the anti-business behaviour coming from the ANC and worse from the EFF no-one wants to say where the jobs are coming from. The NDR is still ANC policy and the EFF are 100% communist so this not business-friendly. Expropriation is a huge issue for business. The issue of Starlink is a good example of own goals through business unfriendly policy.
The host like guests that agree with him. I can hear from his tone and his vocal stance when there is a guest that doesnt support his views.

We need a picture of the future with ideal governance for all. Care for each other with proper character. Mogen Mogeng is your example of a leader!!!
We have a choice as South Africans. Do we continue on the path the ANC lead us and keep focusing on apartheid colonialism and the horrors of the past? Or do we choose capitalist parties to lead us into law and order, prosperity, ethics and morality, heal, unite, deal with current issues and address the past properly and appropriately. It's our choice. 63% chose ANC EFF MK 37 chose DA and other parties ANC needs to choose wisely and do the right thing that works but isn't always popular for a change not the popular thing that always never works.

Well said Mr Phosa, Yes it is indeed complicated. However GNU was foreseen by A.N.C

Dr Phosa, you know very well what transpired with Mandela. Mandela was put in a corner. Mandela attended a meeting with NP in Grooteschuur and Victor Verster whereby he was given terms and conditions of his release. He was coerced to sign those minutes which entailed the setup of sa when anc takes power. That's how we got to gnu then. Same is happening now. This election shows that Black people don't trust ANC anymore to get them out of poverty and care to the needs of freedom fighters. ANC should form a coalition with DA to try the free market economy and with MK to bring the freedom fighters back into ANC. Even if that means the resignation of Cyril Ramaphosa. Country first.
Most skills are learned in the workplace. But then the price must be right.
The chaos of the ANC and the DA is equivalent and can be seen in what was happening during the taxi strike in the Western Cape. Understand I'm referring to the chaos and not implying ANC had anything to do with the strike.
You actually can fund social spending without foreign capital, it's called modern monetary theory, spending on infrastructure doesn't cause inflation so there's no need to fear "printing money" when it's deployed correctly.
We agree with Commander Mathews Phosa, especially on the fact thst DA must be excluded on the Government on National Unity and we are absolutely unapologetic about that. We equallt agree on black left unity in majority, lastly that MK must take the KZN premiership, but they must be in the GNU as well to advance the RET agenda.

The time of one party policies is over. My concern here is however, all who oppose the DA within a coalition or GNU seem to be scared that their patronage network is exposed. When light is shon on supply chains within government, we will likely be shocked at the amount of money funneled away, even within functioning supply chains
Why do some people fear equality?
The critical issue for a stable government must foremost start with a change of mindset from black people being influenced by hostile political parties that continue to see white people as an enemy rather to follow white people's change of mind and attitude to strive to work together as equal South Africans to build the country up as a pride nation .

"There is a lot of international capital waiting to flow in..." we have to entice foreign foreign investors..." that's our biggest problem. The reason why we don't have our own capital is because we allow the status quo to continue, I.e. we allow our minerals to benefit foreign countries. Let's change the status quo, we have the numbers.
