thats the key benefit as we do not have a car industry in Australia, every car sold at here is imported. So the more competition the better. In China, Toyota Camry Or Mazad 3 base model price is started from about $AU18,000, its just half of the price we have in Australia

I think that this and the BYD Shark could be game changers for Australia. I think most of us are not ready to go full EV but would like the much cheaper running costs. To me a PHEV makes total sense. I can either charge it in the day from my solar panels or if the sun isn't shining it can charge it at night on a cheap EV electricity tariff. As long as I can get about 70km's of EV range then almost all of my driving will be electric. On the times when I want to travel further, piece of cake. Just flick the switch to hybrid mode and I've got 1000+km range from a single tank of fuel. I also love the fact that it'll do VTL so when the power goes out, I'll plug the house into the car. Problem solved.

I took the Sealion 6 Premium for a test drive and would say your review is very accurate. Compared to the Seal, I liked that this had an integrated shade for the panoramic roof (not so fussed that the sunroof opened - just something to leak over time), but the seats lack any lumbar support adjustment. The integrated instrument panel rather than the “tablet” style of the Seal is also better in my opinion. One thing I did notice on my drive was a low frequency resonance in the cabin at highway speeds. A kind of thrumming noise. Possibly caused by the choice of tyres. It was something I told the dealer I wouldn’t be able to live with. Hopefully it is only the tyres, because otherwise this is great car for the price. Particularly for places like Australia, where a pure EV struggles to make sense.

The 6.9l/100km was achieved but electricity was used too, how much? A challenge: Top up battery and fossil tank. Reset trip to zero. Drive in EV range until ICE cuts inbattery is at 25%. Then keep driving but in HEV until your trip meter is at 200km. Fill up with 95RON and note battery percentage. Give us how many litres used and how many kWh used let me do the maths please. Foolhardy to say the SL6 only uses about 1 litre extra per 100km without quantifying it with a real world test. Especially as all litres used cost circa ten percent more each per litre. Five litres of 91 @$1.80/l is $9.00 if this SL6 quotes 1.4l/100km but achieves 5.6l @$2/l is $11.20 or 24.4% more expensive to drive 'x metres'. Plus all electricity depleted from the battery. BTW 425l is the boot size which is smaller than Atto 3! Load is limited in SL6 to about 410kg (33% less) compared to 605kg for Outlander PHEV which is SL6 nearest and best selling market leader of this niche.

I haven't driven this car but as a general rule the ADAS is on by default. This is order to earn a 5-star ANCAP rating. If ADAS could by default be turned off permanently there would be no point in fitting those systems. Drivers of EVs need to do a pre-drive check a bit like a pilot turning off all the systems they want to be off and remember that once they turn off the car all the systems will reactivate. In my view they should not be turned off when the car is in motion except by a voice activation so that the driver's eyes are always on the road.

@@rogersmith5371 the ADAS stuff re-activating every time you start actually _isn't_ required by ANCAP, or ADR. Not at all. It _is_ required in a bunch of foreign markets, such as Europe with their ENCAP ratings, but not here in Australia. As it's just a bit of software code, it would cost automakers virtually nothing to change it for Australian delivered vehicles. _Some_ manufacturers actually _do_ change it for us - for example the new Renault Megane E-tech will keep all that stuff off if you turn it off, and I believe Fords are the same. There may be others, and it's always one of the first questions I have about any new vehicle, because some of them are sooo distracting with their beeps, and jolting the steering, braking hard into gentle bends etc that they genuinely feel unsafe (whether they actually are unsafe or not is another matter)

It is my understanding that ANCAP require these systems to be present and in fact gave one version of the MG and the Mahindra a 0 rating because the base model did not include them. @@rogersmith5371 no problem! But no! ANCAP _does_ require the systems (to get 5 stars) but _doesn't_ require them to turn back on every time you start the vehicle. The only other stipulations regarding the ADAS stuff, in order to reach a five star rating, is that _if_ the vehicle has those systems, then they have to work properly within certain tolerances _when turned on_ - in fact I just found out a few hours ago that Hyundai has _finally_ made a software update for compatible Australian market vehicles so that we can turn off the audible chimes and warnings and they stay off. So that should see their sales improve a bit in our market, I would assume.
