2024 BMW X5M Competition review // How is it as a daily driver?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2024 BMW X5M Competition luxury, performance SUV. Wow, 617 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque in this 2024 BMW X5 M Competition!
This X5 M and the X6 M are the first BMW high performance models to debut with 48 volt technology. The X5 M has a 4.4L twin turbo V8 with a 48-volt mild hybrid system, an 8-speed automatic transmission and a variable AWD system that allows the driver to choose between maximum traction at all four wheels or an AWD sport mode for customizable performance on road.
The 2024 BMW X5 M Competition power is amazing, it drives more like a sports sedan than an SUV with balanced handling, incredible acceleration, fantastic cornering and precise steering with a heavier feel. Standard features include, an M Sport exhaust system, an adaptive suspension, active M differential, M compound brakes and three drive modes, road, sport and track.
This new 2024 BMW X5 M Competition has sharper exterior styling with a new front end, a black kidney grille, new Maxtrix LED headlamps, new wheel designs and exterior colours. The X5 M has a staggered 21”/22” wheel setup and summer tires.
The 2024 BMW X5 M Competition interior is beautiful with a curved display, a full merino leather interior, M badging, a 14.9” touchscreen with BMW’s latest operating system 8, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 12.3” digital driver display and Harman Kardon sound system. We have the available Bowers & Wilkins in our test model which sounds great. There is a significant reduction in buttons and controls which some may or may not like.
This 2024 BMW X5 M Competition is pricey but oh so fun, it’s starts at $142,000 CAD/$124,800 USD (MSRP).
Do we really care about fuel economy with this one? 18.2L/100 km, 13 MPG city and 12.9L/100 km, 18 MPG highway.

Difference is above 100-200 kmh, if you do not drive much on freeways, it is useless. Although now I moved to Italy, freeways are quiet empty, so you do not need to get back to the speed quite often. Before It was slowing down to not overtake with much speed difference, then back again to high speeds, or just overtaking so speeding up. It is useless power in an SUV regardless, 50i would be ma maximal choice if I ever needed an X5 which does not have more utility than hatchbacks like Panamera or A7
Another great review - thanks Andrea and Zach! Good inputs on the controls "hot keys", much agree!
BMW is killing it in the wheels department. Their wheel designs are so much appealing and stylish vs what Mercedes is offering. Also, kudos to BMW for having black gloss exterior elements vs the hard unfinished plastics seen on the AMG GLE’s.
I actually love this channel!
great review!
I like the toggle honestly, makes shifting quick, and fun…
In the case of my 21 M340i xDrive and 23 X3 M40i xDrive we absolutely benefit from the 48v mild hybrid even though BMW does not change the posted fuel economy numbers. You can easily average 35mpg and 30mpg respectively commuting to and from work. Even higher if you are focused on gas mileage. Since new I’m averaging 31.2mpg overall on 46,000 miles on my M340 and 26.2mpg overall on 17,000 miles on the X3 M40, both far exceeding EPA numbers.
That's a hot looking 🔥 suv!
Great car❤❤❤
You need to go fast to Starbucks drive thru, soccer practice and Costco😂.... Those cheap looking screens just ruin the interior. If that was any Japanese brand, reviewers would dump on it all day especially at this price point.
Love the X5 M but I’ll keep my X5 40i . Plenty of performance, great luxury and comfort, good utility and decent MPG (28 hwy/25 combined) for $50k less in the US!

I always wonder where do you use all this power except the track which people dont use as so often? Left lanes on highway are always backed up, or cops hanging out when traffic gets thinner. You obviously can’t keep launching in residential area. One place comes to mind is regional back roads but they are so wonky. I’d be scared to topple this super boxy suv

That's one of the reasons I sold my 540iT wagon. I loved driving it but could never experience the full potential of the engine. Took off traction control once and the tires lit up upon acceleration. How about a Jaguar F Pace SVR for more fun and a fair bit less money. And I know some think reliability is an issue. F type owner here from 2018. Zero problems. Awesome V8 supercharged engine.
@ChezDoesStuff

Totally agree with you on reliability! 2020 SVR here with 31k miles, including a 2k mile road trip earlier this year. Zero problems and, strangely, better highway/off-boost fuel economy despite the bigger displacement. It's a little down on torque because it's supercharged, not turbocharged, but that doesn't really matter much on the daily. Common AJ133 problems that folks usually anchor on: coolant y-pipes (design fixed 2019), timing chain tensioners (design fixed 2012/2013). EDIT: and it looks really low profile, too.

It’s a really good car if you have a family, great space better than cayenne, if you don’t have a family, then get a cayenne, it’s more sportier and feels lighter than the x6. What timing showing BMW and now i read in the news on BMW Airbags recall ...... lol BMW recalls over 390K vehicles in US over airbag issues BMW's recall covers certain models made between 2006 and 2012 that may have Takata airbags in the steering wheel German automaker BMW is recalling more than 390,000 vehicles in the U.S. because of defective airbag inflators that may explode upon deployment, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said Wednesday. The recall covers certain BMW 3 Series Sedans and Sportwagon models that were manufactured between 2006 and 2012. The vehicles may have a steering wheel with a Takata PSDI-5 airbag inflator that was installed by owners after purchase, even though it was not officially approved by BMW as a replacement part. The PSDI-5 inflator has been found to be susceptible to rupture after several years of exposure to persistent high temperatures and humidity following investigations by Takata and independent researchers, NHTSA said. An explosion of the airbag inflator could cause sharp metal fragments to hit the driver and other occupants of the vehicle, which could cause injury or death, NHTSA explained. The faulty airbag inflators were manufactured by Japanese automotive parts manufacturer Takata and have been at the center of the largest and most complex recall in the history of the automotive industry. Takata was once the world's leading supplier of airbags and filed for bankruptcy in 2017 amid the widespread recalls.
