This is the new 2024 BMW X5M Competition. This might not seem as powerful as the BMW XM, it is certainly faster with its lighter build and faster launch control systems. This competes with the Mercedes AMG GLE63S, Lamborghini Urus, Audi RSQ8, and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT.
This SUV has BMW’s familiar 4.4L Twin Turbo V8 from the previous generation of the X5M, except this one has been fit with a mild hybrid system that is in the regular X5, the new X7, the new XM, and a lot of other new BMWs. In the Competition version, which is standard in North America, it produces 617 hp and 553 lb-ft, which is not the most powerful car in the fast SUV segment, but it is certainly a lot faster than some other fast SUVs on the market right now. This will hit 100 km/h (60 mph) in around 3.5 seconds, making it even faster than the Label Red XM from BMW.
In terms of the interior, BMW has of course put in its latest software, the iDrive 8. That software has been put in a lot of BMWs like the new iX, i4, i7, i5, and many other cars, except the Z4. You get a light-up X5M badge on the seats as standard. Surprisingly, you get nice comfortable seats for such a sport car. An optional Executive package adds luxury features such as heated and cooled cupholders, front and rear heated seats, massaging seats for the driver and front passenger, soft-close doors, and more. You also get cool looking ambient lighting and leather upholstery. Finally, you get a Harmon/Kardon audio system that provides great stereo for music.
It takes lots of fuel to make the kind of horsepower produced by the X5 M, and it shows in the EPA fuel-economy ratings. The X5 M delivers an estimated 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway.
Pricing of the new X5M will start at around $141,000 CAD ($102,000 USD). The X5 and X6 both arrived in mid 2023, along with the M Competition versions, and is now available to the public.
