Always a wonderful discussion full of knowledge and insight when you three get together. My favorite observation is Brent's regarding the most DNF'd races being Barkley Marathons and Big's Backyard. Reminds me of his now iconic observation about the depth being deep. Thank you - all three of you!

Excellent coverage. I think it would be great if Singletrack Podcast speculated through the year a bit on how 2023 career-choices / race-performances inform the performances we begin to see in 2024. I think Black Canyon winners are those who combine extended REST from their primary sport (not necessarily an "off-season") in ~Sept-Dec with extended, intentional , Winter training. Or, we see the final amazing gasps of athletes who extended their seasons and now need that kind of rest/ deep reset through the Spring. Whether athletes take career-protective rest in a seasonal way is not so esoteric a thing to measure as we may think. We just wait, and unfortunately, or fortunately, see.

Excellent point and well said. I believe our next preview episode will be for Canyons and we may insert this type of discussion into the episode. Might also be worthy of a long run archives episode. I agree - how they got there, why they are there in the context of a 12-15 month race history is interesting to reflect on. Thanks for the inspiration and for watching!

Random feedback / question here.. I love watching these storylines, and the athlete interviews, it adds so much to the intrigue. But they are all quite long, I often don't have the time to watch it all (though I want to!). Have you considered creating some shorter-form videos kind of summarizing this stuff, or even just "hype videos"? I find myself wishing you had that. I like how you sometimes put out shorts of interesting moments from interviews, it often sparks my interest to watch the full vid.

Great pod! I don’t think you mentioned Stian from Norway, but he could really mix it up!

Reid is one to watch! I really appreciate the way he's sharing his journey, working in public. I want more of that from athletes at the front. Hope he has the day he's been working hard for.

High-profile DNF pick = Hayden Hawks. I think if he doesn’t feel like he’s gonna win/get a ticket , he’ll pull out and go for it at Canyons. Ya gotta have a little controversy/drama in the predictions.
