    Nose up is the angle of the disc relative to the plane of the flight of the disc. So you can throw a disc "up" in the air, but still throw it nose down relative to flight angle. Basically the "front" of the disc is down and pushing air over the top of the disc creating a foil and thus lift making the disc literally act like a wing and "fly". Nose up is not relative to the ground AT ALL, but is relative to the direction of flight of the disc.

  • @Falcon888
    @Falcon888Ай бұрын

    Nose down means the nose of the disc is down compared to the trajectory of the disc. This is why pros can throw super high shots that still carry forever. The nose isn’t down when compared to the ground, but it is compared to the trajectory the disc was launched at. Nose up the opposite, obviously.

    Nose up is the angle of the nose of the disc being more + than the “optimal” nose angle (which still is slightly +) and that increase of angle in the nose of the disc makes the disc shoot up in the air, rather than through it, and this causes the disc to fly shorter and slower than a disc with “nose down” closer to optimal

    Nose Up: The leading edge of the disc (perpendicular to the flight path) is higher than the trailing edge. This is independent of the hyzer angle (height of the left and right edges; parallel to the flight path). Nose up is generally going to cause a disc to lose speed more rapidly, act more overstable, and fade harder and further than usual.

    As a math person, let me build on Aaron's "what does 'round' mean?" bit. I think everyone is comfortable with "round" in 2 dimensions _(circle, or technically a disc - very appropriate - which is a circle with a filled-in interior, similar to a golf disc)_ and 3 dimensions _(sphere; a filled-in sphere is called a ball. Ironically, while a golf disc _*_is_*_ a disc, a soccer ball is a sphere, not a ball since it isn't solid; a ball would be something like a bowling ball or a superball, solid all the way through)._ But what would "round" mean in 1 dimension? What about more than 3 dimensions? The answers to this are known, so if I have some fellow mathies in the comments please let the non-math people speculate, it's more fun that way. It's hard to have a real thinker of a problem if someone just says the answer straight away. Hint: how would you define a circle geometrically _(i.e., how would you describe the set of points that make up a circle?),_ and how can you expand that to different dimensions? EDIT: the cylinder example is interesting in higher dimensions. The easiest way to think of a cylinder is that it's a circle in one plane _(assume it's the xy plane for simplicity)_ that gets projected along a straight line, but you can also think of it as a rolled-up rectangle. So what do you do in 4 dimensions? Is it a circle in the xy plane that gets projected along a straight line in both z and w planes, or is it a sphere that gets projected in a straight line along the w plane only? Are those both different kinds of cylinders? The answer is interesting. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duocylinder hi.gher.space/classic/shapes/rotachora.htm

    Goose- I have to take the opposing side of the OB argument. As a fan I find holes like 4 (BH roller chance for eagle or bomb air shot throw in from 120) way more entertaining to watch as a chance eagle play. You can still par or even bogey if an aggressive player throws a bad roller deep into the woods. I doubt you see any aggressive plays on the hole now because of the OB and it will be a safe shot followed by a spike hyzer FH. To me that is very meh to watch. I understand your points as a player that you are challenged on both shots. It is more "routine" though and not extraordinary like the possible eagle play was before. I thought it was a fun hole. After all you guys are an entertainment product. Something to consider. Also putting inside of 33 feet is also meh to watch. But that is another topic. I think you should consider what is fun to watch to continue to grow the sport = viewers = money.

    Gooses hazard play it definitely making a pro level experience. Most of the time when you are off the fairway in a wooded course you are punished by not having a second shot. Out of bounds does kinda suck because you then get to get out of the woods and have an open shot from the fairway. So the double wammy of having a stroke and playing from the woods could help punish players more. This would cause more scoring separation which at this point is needed. Too many good players at the top all within a few strokes. I am all for the pros having ways to make the course harder which for a viewer would make it more fun to watch.
