For Cadets born 5/20/2008 or earlier who may not have soloed yet, we recommend applying for in-residence--just be sure to enter the date you are available (ie the date your school year ends in May 2025). It helps if you've passed the FAA Written, but it's not required
For Cadets born 9/10/2008 or earlier who have soloed (powered OR glider!) and passed the FAA written, you have the highest probability of being selected this year for funding that may start as early as October 2024 (we will probably advise most Alaskans to start their 6-month window in January 2025)
For Cadets born before 9/10/2004: You will turn 21 too soon to eligible for Cadet Wings funding this year : -(
For Cadets born before 3/1/2012--If you have not soloed, we highly recommend you apply for the 2025 Alaska Wing Glider and/or Powered Flight Academies! Applications will open around mid-October and will be due by 12/31/24.
C/Capt Kai Halliburton describes the Cadet Wings application process for CAP funding for flight instruction to private pilot certificate, including some specifics for Alaska Wing cadets. The application window opens at 9pm AK time on Friday, 30 June 2024. We recommend you ask AKWG Wings POC Capt Karen Padgett (Karen.padgett@ AKWG.cap.gov) to review your application before you hit submit. As DCP, she should be able to view your application in its draft form. Applications are accepted and processed on a rolling basis, and you cannot make changes after you submit your application. Last applications accepted until 14 Sep 2024 or when all funds have been awarded, whichever happens first.
