OpenAI's 2024 spring update introduces the powerful AI model GPT-4o ("o" stands for omni, reflecting its multi-modal capabilities). This release has sparked a wave of excitement and concern within the AI community. Many are drawing sci-fi parallels to the movie "HER" (2013) and the AI villain "GLaDOS" from the game "Portal 2," which are trending across the internet. Naturally, I couldn't resist joining the buzz, so today's Dose of AI will be into this intriguing topic.

OpenAI is slowing rolling the features showing in the demo. In the meantime, the GPT-4o model is available in ChatGPT or using the API calls.
I am a beta tester for GPT2 since 2020 and I have access to GPT4o however I cannot access the app shown in the video. Anyone figure how to get it yet?

I have 4o too, from what I've checked I think it's being rolled out selectively to chosen people for now.

OpenAI is slowing rolling the features showing in the demo. In the meantime, the GPT-4o model is available in ChatGPT or using the API calls. However, I imagine the developer knows how to call the APIs can reconstruct something similar, but it cannot achieve the same performance (time) level.
I really dislike the "personality" on this AI. However I have to admit I'm not fond of that personality for humans either. Far too much fluff and time consuming small talk. I'll only use AI like this if I can choose the "personality", or lack there of.

Totally agreed with you, I think OpenAI is smart enough to allow personalization with the AI "personality" in the actual product release. Realistically, the release will be integrated with the mobile devices, becomes the system settings.

Personally, I prefer personality. I find it makes it more comfortable to converse with. If this were to be adopted on, say, Google Nest or Amazon Echo devices I would want it to be like this. However, if it's in a business setting, or I'm at my PC, I'd maybe prioritize efficient dialogue.
