2023 Zebco Omega Pro How to Service

Спорт

The new 2023 Zebco Omega Pro ZO3 (Size 30) fishing reel. I show you all the details on how to service it and take it a part and put back together.
This is probably the best Zebco I have used to date.

If anyone else is like me and does not have a PZ1 screwdriver, I was able to get a micro size flat blade to work on the 2 screws. I struggled with a small Phillips I had and got one of them out but finally got the other out with the flat blade

Thanks for the tip. It was a reel mystery to run into this type of screw.

@@OutFishing13Matthew I agree, as we get more and more foreign made stuff the screws get weirder and weirder. We need to start making Zebco in America again. We all got a phillips head handy!

I just had to return my older version because the spool wouldn't come off for me or a trained professional. Zebco was very nice in giving me this updated version even when i had just went past the warranty period. Looking forward to using this newer model now all the more after watching this vid. ❤

@@OutFishing13Matthew I do wonder why the newer version didn't come with an extra spool or single paddle handle. I shipped all the parts back with my old one thinking the new one would have it's own extra parts, now I Miss having an extra handle or a different spool to use different line in case I want to fish differently without bringing it buying an extra reel.

@@1001thhill send an email to Zebco and ask for a second spool. I wish these reels would come in a box with an extra spool and the single handles Ike the old Omega Pro.

@@1001thhill I think the spool and handle off the old unit would work on the new one, although I didn't try it yet. Never though old reels away!! lol

Another good result, Matthew! I DID pick up a Bullet size 2, but have yet to get it on the water. Zebco tells me that this reel is OK with braid. Spinner head does NOT look to be hardened. We shall see. Does NOT come with a spare spool, either. Bob

I would be very reluctant to use braid on a bullet. The spinner heads are over $35 to replace

I noticed on the drag assembly that when you put it together, you didn't put any new grease in there. Does it need new grease in there while you have it apart? Thank you for putting out these videos. They really help in keeping my zebco reels in great shape.

You are correct. I didn't add any new grease this time. It was clean and had plenty of grease on the drag washers from the factory. Thanks for watching and commenting. I am happy to hear you are enjoying the videos.

I, too, wish they would have stayed with standard fasteners. I've used my Leatherman quite a few times to make field repairs to hunting and fishing gear.

Hey Mathew, have you checked out the new 33 Platinum? My brother got one and I casted it yesterday. Very smooth! The best thing is it has 4.7:1 gear and the reel is all metal and less than 30 bucks!😊

Excellent video like always, have you tried braid on it yet? Just curious if it would bind into itself when a fish is taking drag.

    I always thought you didn't put grease in the anti-reverse bearing/clutch because it's friction-driven.

Actually it is like a posi traction clutch the roller bearings have a little ramp that tightens the clutch when it rolls backwards

How would you compare the use and serviceability of the vintage Zebcos vs the higher end new ones?

That is a great question and a good idea for a video. Old vs New. Some years ago, Zebco started making different classes of reels that varied in quality. The USA made 33s were a mid-quality reel and was very durable and highly serviceable. It generally had steel gears and steel bushings. It was easy to service and was very tough, providing years of service if taken care of. I still use 33s that are 30-40 years old and they work great. I have some old 808s that are 50 years old and I use them for cat fish. The USA made Omegas are of high quality and had bearings. Top of the line reels. When operations moved to China, some quality went down, but some went up. The 33s have pot metal or aluminum gears, but had brass or plastic bushings. Or the gold or platinum 33s had bearings. The Omega and Delta has brass gears and stainless bearings. I have seen some of the China made 33 with stripped out gears and unusable. I don't want to discourage you though. Most problems to a reel occur when the reel is abused, like setting trying to undo a snag without setting the drag really tight or holding onto the line. Or the reel is never serviced and lubed. The China made and USA models are great reels and will last you many seasons when properly used and serviced.

@@OutFishing13Matthew I like that you can still get high quality spin cast reels, a video on new vs old reels would be very interesting! I’ve been repairing the old ones I find and your videos have been very helpful, I’m glad there are others that like to fix stuff instead of throwing it away.
