2023 Volkswagen Golf R20 Anniversary Edition
The 20th anniversary of Volkswagen's R-badged Golf hot hatchbacks is being commemorated, but the special edition model that will be available in the United States isn't quite as cool as the one that will be offered in Europe. The 2023 Golf R 20th Anniversary Edition will have the same 315 horsepower as previous versions of the Golf R, while the Golf R 20 Years abroad get a 14-hp boost for its turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four.
At $46,035 for the six-speed manual and $46,835 for the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, the anniversary model is only $650 more expensive than the ordinary model. (It's also important to note that the 20 Years automobile sold in Europe has no manual at all.) For that tiny amount, you receive a variety of aesthetic improvements, such as 20th anniversary badging for the B-pillars, blue "R" logos inside and out, and unique puddle lights that cast a "20R" design on the ground. Carbon-fiber trim is added to the inside, and black 19-inch wheels come standard.
The 20th Anniversary model comes in black, white, or blue. The mirror caps are finished in blue whether you select white or black. Mirrors are black if you select blue. In order to conserve weight, VW claims to have removed the panoramic sunroof from the special edition Golf R. The 20th Anniversary Edition will be sold in the United States in an estimated 1800 units, and dealerships will start receiving them later this autumn.
