2023 Toyota Tacoma / Fear of the Future
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The Tacoma is finally receiving a redesign, but the news is bittersweet to me. While the new Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado Nissan Fronteir and GMC Canyon are all quite fresh for 2023 and 2024, the third gen Tacoma still has a few aces left.

What a great-looking truck. So good in that orange, with all the black TRD trim pieces. It really pops. "Apparently people that want three pedals hate convenience." Exactly. It absolutely sucks, the fact that nearly all manufacturers these days limit the manuals to their least desirable trim packages.
I've owned my 2023 Tacoma for 10 months. I found myself nodding in agreement with everything you said. You even pointed out things that I hadn't noticed yet! Excellent review.
Man that is a good looking truck. I don’t see any flaws lol. I only wish I could afford it.
Just found your channel today when you talked about the pros/cons of the Ford bronco. now I'm binging your content. Wonderful review and wish you the growth you deserve!
Just bought a '23 TRD Pro in the orange Solar Octane with the 6 speed manual last weekend! Its a unicorn.
Just picked up a used '20 Pro this week and couldn't be happier.
I think I have a crush... an Orange Crush 😂 it is long in tooth, but sometimes that's all part a vehicles charm. I think anyone in North America would kill to get their hands on a late model ROW Hilux or Landcruiser that hasn't changed for years.

Anyone who thinks the new Tacoma is rough riding and handles poorly is clearly under 40 years old. These are luxury trucks compared to those just 20 years ago and if they're made any softer they'll fall apart.

I'd agree, they clearly know more about current trucks and their competition.
You might be one of the few automotive journalists that will include potential issues about selecting vehicles, which is something car buyers should appreciate.
I love my ‘22 and plan on keeping it for a very long time. Stick shift for the win! And you are right about the interior build quality. I have zero rattles and everything is rock solid. The first thing I did was replace the headunit and speakers and add a subwoofer. It’s the perfect vehicle for me now.

As the sun sets on the venerable 3rd gen Tacoma, you have very succinctly and thoroughly summed up the euphoria that is the beloved Taco. I’m enjoying my 2020 TRD DCLB Sport 4x4. Yes, even with that fake hood scoop. Hopefully for as long as there is carbon for sale. This will truly be the end of an era for trusty, simplistic old school trucks.

Inferno orange was the first, and still the best, of all the special colors. Keys remain in all standard shift trucks. After owning two trucks with push button start- Ill never go back keys.
Pretty spot on review, I concur with just about everything. One thing I don’t get is why people complain about the seat position…I think it’s comfortable and I like the fact that I have a wide view. Probably because I’m a midgety 5’9”. Other thing people don’t talk about is the looks. Best looking of any midsize truck period…IMO. The only midsize that beats taco on looks is the ranger raptor which isn’t available in the US yet.

I really wanted to trade my 21 TRD OR Tacoma for a 4Runner but they're so expensive for what they are. Interior from 2008 and ride that's decades behind the competition. I ended up getting a topper for my Taco instead. Not ideal, but its good enough for now.
@Toby_Flenderson_1982

This has been exactly what I’ve been considering. I’ve got a 21 TRD OR but sort of wish I had gotten the 4runner. At this point would lose too much in a trade (value proposition of buying new is keeping for a really long time) so I’m also thinking about a topper. Maddening thing is that they’re so expensive that you start approaching the price difference to 4runner (at least a base model, which is what I’d cross-shop). What did you go with?
the new Tacomas will have a manual transmission option, seen it from people posting videos with them and they're all about saving the manual

I keep hearing about this so called “gear hunting” stuff, it’s not a muscle car. Go get one of those if you want to race. Hell, my ‘23 TRD off road premium does not have that problem! I hardly go down on the accelerator and I’m up to 45 before I know it. Just treat it right and it responds! The new model ‘23, seems to not have that talked about issue. Try using some better fuel and maybe a K&N air filter - may help you out!

It's a valid nuisance, there are things you can do to fix it and the new ones are much better than the ones from before the update but there's a reason why it's a common complaint, especially if you tow or live at high altitude.

Thank you for all this info. I’ve had a 2005 Toyota Camry for almost a decade and it’s starting to show its age. I don’t tow anything or plan to seriously off-road. Do you think the 4 banger could handle most forest fire roads with good tires? The cost savings over the V6 4x4 will make it possible for me to get. The used prices are also not helpful, and will probably get worse when the generation changes.

That 2.7 is nearly indestructible, but it’s horrifically underpowered. I almost bought one until I drove I tried highway merging, and it was so slow it was dangerous where I live. Is it worth it to lease a Tacoma? $345/mo for an SR5 v6 crew is very tempting
@DT-5150
Жыл бұрын
Not if you plan to keep the truck. The reason the lease payments are low is because the residual value is really good because Tacomas have legendary resale value. However once you break the lease cost down with the money factor (interest rate) they charge for a Tacoma lease (which is generally pretty high because the residual value is so good) you realize that a huge portion of your lease payment goes to nothing but interest. Best to buy a Tacoma IMO, but if you trade in and out of vehicles every three years, it’s not a bad route. You’re just paying a lot of interest.

I enjoy my Taco TRD sport 4x4 driving position immensely.
My opinion would be to add a turbo to the v6 to bump up the power . Even better twin turbo. I woukd like to see 400hp minimum out of this mid size truck
I just wish more people would review the TRD 4x4 off-road it's much cheaper, way more readily available & it has 90% of everything that the PRO does... If you got the off-road with LED lights & the premium package it would be hard for the average person to tell the difference, the other thing probably 90-95% of these people drive the pro model drive on road & the off-road trim does better on road handling then the sport does better on road than the off-road 🤷 The only thing that's changed is the 🦊 shocks maybe the headlights are a tad bit different with the rigid fogs & small lift better front skit 🍽️... Same motor same transmission same locking rear differential If you get the automatic you get multi terrain select... At my local dealer I picked up my off-road manual transmission basic 📦 41K OTD with 120K 7-year warranty zero deductible + gap insurance... The other day they had some nice used pros One was the 22 the other was a 23 The The 4runner was lime green & the truck was a dark silver they were between 55-57,000 One had 12,000 mi the other had 20,000 so after tax & blah blah blah you're close to 62-65K I'm sorry but I think my 🛻💨 is VERY close to that TRD pro & I'd never spend $20,000 more than what I did... 25K more if you got the warranty & gap like i do. The trucks look too similar most the average person cannot even tell the difference & performance is so good on the off-road when you go off road it's plenty for most people.
It needs some general lee decals
I just ordered a TRD auto 4x4 V-6 someone tell me I made a good decision. !
