    I'm driving Ice Cap Core model, and I snatched it up while it was sitting at the dealership floor with 4,900 miles on it. I had the Corolla Hatchback, and I didn't want miss out. I'd been waiting for a full year to even buy one. I love these cars, and I can't wait to do more mods.

    I have a Circuit that is the same color and stock exhaust. I see this all of the posts, its a FUN car to drive, I absolutely enjoy driving it. Thanks for the video, is the FI exhaust pretty loud?? I have been thinking of this FI or 2 tip mbrp for lightness. Are you considering a down pipe and/or an intake?

  • @NEMotoGuy

    @NEMotoGuy

    6 ай бұрын

    I honestly love the heavy metal color on these hatches! The FI exhaust is fairly tame with the valve closed. With the valve open it's pretty loud, just the cat-back. The difference between FI and the MBRP, aside from the brand build, is the valve. I do not believe MBRP has a valve system, so its on always loud mode. I have the FI catted downpipe already, I just haven't installed it yet, as I am waiting for a legitimate tune via ECUTEK software. Trying to keep the car as MA state legal/compliant as possible. I actually just installed an intake, that video will go live Sunday. I am doing a comparison of the MST and the Eventuri in the next couple weeks. Here is the video of the FI system on my car. There is also the install video, etc. on my page if you are interested. FI Sound Clip: kzread.info/dash/bejne/d2Wn2Lebabmrd8o.htmlsi=UvfYHl4ih8t1_oCG

    Are your driving impressions of this little hatch, different? Better, than that of your B9? I ask because, I too own a B9 S4 Prestige and have thought about this GR Corolla. Different beast all together, without the luxurious amenities. In some ways, It would probably feel like my weekend car, a 2020 STI. Anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts..

  • @NEMotoGuy

    I absolutely LOVE this GRC. It is very very different from the B9 S4. I had the premium plus S4 package. That car was very comfortable to drive, very fast, smooth, luxurious everywhere, great sound system. It was also much larger than the GRC. I actually had a 2013 and a 2017 STI in the past, and this car really feels like the 2013 STI with some more creature comforts and the CE trim has a much nicer interior. My original plan was to keep my A90 Supra along side this GRC. The GRC would be a great weekend car next to the S4. Honestly I can't wait to use this as a winter daily in the snow too. Getting winter tires put on this week. The GRC also feels a bit more well built than the STI. The transmission definitely is way better. That's saying something too, as the STI transmission is great. The sound system in the GRC is god awful though. You will immediately notice that coming from the S4 lol.

    Lucky chap you are. You can tell from the smiles on your face that your happy uou were one of thevluvky few able ro snap up a circuit edition in the dealership market where they hoard and even over-markup these GR Corollas unnecessarily. If I might ask, why didn't you go for say the WRX, given you stated you came from an STI background or the Integra Type S or Type R, since those ones have a much more refined manual drive, higher quality interior space, and more usable boot space ?

  • @NEMotoGuy

    @NEMotoGuy

    6 ай бұрын

    I am definitely lucky for sure. Lucky and very grateful. I work with one dealership and it's the same one that I purchased my Supra from, and they always honor MSRP. As a returning Toyota customer they also gave me a $1K incentive towards the car. Wait until next weeks video, the mod I installed made me uncontrollably smile ear to ear like a child haha. So initially I was planning on putting the new STI against this GRC. Since the STI was discontinued, I looked at the GRC and the Integra Type S. Since I live in MA, I prefer an AWD vehicle for my daily car, so that helped eliminate all the other competition in this class. I liked the WRX, but the MT trims didn't come with Recaro seats, nor did they have large Brembo brakes, etc. I was looking for more of a drivers performance daily versus a car that I needed to upgrade the brakes, seats, etc. Although they did recently announce the new TR trim for the 2024 model year, which basically adds everything I listed lol. Now, that I would really consider purchasing. The space is larger, the sound system is better, etc. However, I always wanted a hot hatch as well. And honestly there are no other hot hatches in the market in this segment. I personally don't consider the Type R or Type S a hatch, yes liftback, but it doesn't look like one to me. Also, if you can get the CE trim, the interior is actually really nice. Very comparable to the Civic Type R as far as quality goes. Minus the crazy red bucket seats, transmission, sound system, and space. Though the GRC seats five and the Type R only seats four. The GRC also sounds AMAZING from factory. This three cylinder is unreal on how it sounds. Hope this helps, sorry for the very long post lol.

    @NEMotoGuy no man. It's alright. I liked well thought-out and composed replies. Appreciate when KZreadrs take time to respond. You answered my concerns and your preference for the GR pretty well. One would say what of the Golf R or Mini Cooper John Cooper Works, as both are also sporty hatchbacks? The tR WRX doesn't seem to properly fill that void the STI left behind. I wonder why Subaru are now dangling a fleshless bone to Subaru buyers, as if it can replace what the STI provided. Subaru lost their way when they messed up the front, exterior and stripped all the goodies for their customers buying manual and giving it to their auto buying WRX customers instead. I live in Canada and got the Canadian spec Si which is a best enthusiast bargain of 2023 you can get now IMO. The TYPE R which I truly wanted was being hoarded and being marked up like crazy, so the Si ticked the Fun, Practicality, Maintenability, Reliability cards for me. Tried shopping for the GR Corolla but for my height the rear seats just seemed just seemed impractical, so skipped it too. I see a Type R Or Type S in my near future though

    I have a 2010 Speed3, just got the 24 Premium GRC 2 weeks ago. The Speed3 is faster in pulls past like 70, so basically just freeway stuff, however THIS car is SOOOO buttoned up, when I got my I had the WHOLE suspension rebuilt bushings and all with bigger sway bar, but damn this car is leagues above that. Not only that, I have the COBB intake all the way back to the turbo on the Mazda so when it's dry and warm it runs good grip wise, when it's wet or cold 1st and 2nd are basically unusable lmao. In the GRC, there is grip for daaaaays even in EXPERT mode, insane, just pin the throttle and it claws out and goes where you point it. So this car is wonderful for all times of the year, where as the Mazda I have to pay a lot of attention to the car if it's wet, and or cold. So confidence inspiring.

    Awesome! Love hearing people enjoy the GRC. Yea the gen 1&2 MS3's were very torquey monsters from what I recall. Very quick too, but not as stable in corners as something like an AWD plant like the GRC. We have a 2022 Mazda 3 Turbo hatch with AWD as well, and it is so much more tame than the MS3's. Not the same I know, but as close as we get now. That thing handles AMAZING for what it is tbh. Agreed it has tons of grip. I haven't hit the limits or gotten close myself. Wait till you mod the GRC, the throttle response with a good downpipe/intake and tune wakes these cars up. Ideally around the 300whp mark is perfect for these cars.

    I had a 2008.5 Speed3 for a few years. Great car. Understated and yet, as the name says... speed! Cobb Accessport, intake, exhaust... the thing would just spin all the way through 3rd gear in anything but ideal conditions. I think the car was actually slower then stock because it just would not hook up. But even with that missbehavior and front-wheel drive, it was fun. It was like a child who has had to much sugar. It was always straining at the leash. That is my one criticism of my GR Corolla. It's a bit TOO buttoned down. I wish it would misbehave a bit more. I don't think it is the sort of car I would miss if I sold it. (Not like some other cars I own currently)

    One comment, and, apologies if you have covered this in a prior video. (...nobody talks about this...) Are you aware that the cost of the forged carbon fiber roof is upwards of $20,000 from the Toyota parts department? The reason I bring this up is because of all the YT videos floating around out there comparing the Core to the Circuit to the Morizo, debating which is the one to get and yet none of them, not one, discusses the incredible value that both the Circuit and Morizo represent when you take into account what you are actually getting for your money. A hand crafted forged CF roof panel is nothing to scoff at. That roof panel has direct lineage to the Lexus LFA program and, in the fact, this car is manufactured in that same plant on the same line as the legendary LFA once was. That is worth commenting on, and yet, nobody does. And while the Core edition of the GR Corolla is likewise made on this same line, the fact it is missing this key carbon ingredient makes it a no-go for me. It reminds me of, in 2015, when Ford introduced the Mustang GT 350 and 350R. The "R" variant came with a number of significant appearance and performance upgrades when compared to the standard GT 350 including a set of $15,000 carbon fiber wheels. Well that made the choice between those two cars a no brainer if I were in that sort of marketplace. Same goes for the Morizo and Circuit. They are both, no brainers especially when you consider their low production numbers and what you are getting for a small up-charge. I promise you, the hushed words spoken within the gated confines of the Motomachi plant all say the same thing... Circuit if you need a rear seat, Morizo if you don't. All of the GR Corolla's are rare as hens teeth but the Circuit and Morizo are the gold filling in that tooth and the employees and management know it.

    Not at all crazy. Believe me I understand. The GRC will definitely have less electronic intrusions/nannies that get in the way. Of course less things to break as well. The GRC does have just the right amount for a daily imo. Has adaptive cruise, blind spot monitoring, a few creature comforts like heated seats/wheel and wireless carplay. The rest is basically on you to drive the car. My S4 had a ton of electronic bits to it, some I liked, and others it became annoying (auto start/stop...HATED THIS). As far as the ride in the GRC goes, this thing can handle MA roads and even dirt roads/hills, etc. I turn traction control off and I didnt have anything interfere once when driving.

It's definitely less refined as the VW, be aware of that. Rattles here and there, and if you get a core it's very much basic interior, not premium at all. I will say, in my GR Supra I had problems quite often with the Bluetooth, idk if that's a BMW thing though. Not once has the GR given me issues connecting. What's your thoughts of the 2024 trim changes?

  • @NEMotoGuy

    @NEMotoGuy

    6 ай бұрын

    Honestly aside from the new blue color, which I personally don't care for, the biggest changes are the front air ducts/vents for the brakes are now open in the CE. Something that can easily be added to the 23's. Should be cheap and quick part from Toyota. The one thing that really bothers me is that the 2024 models now have front and rear parking sensors. I know most people won't care, but I like parking sensors on cars. It makes parking in general easier if you really want to get up close to a wall or curb or something. The fact that Toyota decided not to add that, when the corolla hatches have them in the bumper molds, and knowing the 24's would have them, is a kick in the face for 23 owners lol. Aside from that the new premium trim I think is a nice spot for these cars, if the price wasn't so close to the CE trim. I think having the combo of the CE interior and all the amenities like performance pack, tech pack, and cold weather, is a nice start. For me the bland cloth interior of the core was a deal breaker for that trim. The leather/alcantara and red stitching is so much nicer.

    @@NEMotoGuy TOTALLY agree with you. The new blue is just not... good. It's not a good blue. Not like the Ford Focus RS or Polstar Smurf Blue. Those blues work on those cars because the blue is soft and agreeable, not harsh and strident like the new "Blue Flame" hue. But fans of the GR Corolla rejoiced at the new color as a knee-jerk reaction. They simply reacted to it because it was new, not taking into account the fact that it actually doesn't look good... not only on the GR Corolla but it doesn't look good on the Corolla XSE nor the Rav4. Funny you also didn't like that color. What the GR Corolla needs is it's own "legend color". That is a color, like Subaru's historic blue and gold combo or Ferrari's red on tan. The GRC needs a hero color.
