I'm leasing one soon so this review gave me a good idea of what to expect~ The Corolla has always been one of those really good choice commuter, first cars to have. Very reliable, very easy to drive, very comfortable, low maintenance, and just something that people will get in and have no problems with whatsoever. That's really with any Toyota product. But it's nice how simple the Corolla is, and nobody will be offended driving it. Now, I know the Corolla has a CVT transmission, and I've never driven a car with a CVT transmission. I've always been used to traditional automatics with gears. I currently drive my mom's RAV4 and obviously that has an 8-speed automatic. I'll have to get used to a car not having any true gears, but it shouldn't be too hard. 169 HP for this 2.0L inline 4 cylinder is plenty enough for a car like this. Also the fuel economy is just incredible. The RAV4 does really well, but with the Corolla being much lighter and smaller, it should be even more efficient than that 2.5L inline 4 in the RAV4.

@@Iegend17 Yeah, obviously it would be nice to have a traditional automatic, but having a CVT increases the fuel efficiency, and from what I saw in this video, it doesn't seem very sluggish like most compact cars. Again 169 HP is pretty decent for this car, and considering its weight, it shouldn't be too slow kind of like the C-HR was with its engine and CVT.

I've gotten used to the lack of shifting and fake shifting to the point where I prefer it. I find it much more responsive and smooth. Because the CVT effectively has unlimited gear ratios, you're spending less time waiting for the car to shift down when you lay on the gas. It's especially noticeable when you're driving uphill.

got the SE sport 2023 last week, traded my 2019 Impreza Hatchback. one thing i noticed is the increased 2gal savings from the corolla. my Impreza is tested for winter and never gave me trouble going home. this Corolla on the other hand needs to be proven as we are not there in Winter yet, hopefully the FWD will not disappoint me thru slick and snowy road. both hight are similar. the Impreza scrapes as 2" of snow on the road but didn't disappoint me in handling. I'm assuming this Corolla will also scrape as well, as long as this one won't fishtail on me; i'm fine with it. so far i'm like the handling with my Corolla, I travel 120mile round trip for work. took me twice a week to fill gas just like my Impreza. the only missing is the blind spot monitoring for my Corolla, like my Impreza; it doesn't have that feature. with the latest Impreza, it came standard. overall i don't have any regret for getting this car over a Subaru which is $5K higher than this Corolla SE 2023. did i miss my Subaru, of course. I have been a Subaru owner for the last 5yrs. I have the Ascent 2019 when it came out in late 2018, and the Impreza 2019 i got it from last yr. the big factor that steer me away from the Subaru line is the gas mileage savings, 4WD against cheaper gas mileage; I can save better with Toyota. that's what I think when i buy my first Toyota...

You can use the money you saved with gas to buy winter tires and switch to them! And you don't have to worry about replacing all four tires if one needs to be replaced, since it's not all wheel drive so it doesn't matter if one tire has a different tread depth (tho I would double check in the manual).

    Жыл бұрын

Yeah, CVTs aren't normally meant to do that, and it's nice that the CVT does that to give you the most optimal power to get you to speed. I understand why people would like a CVT that mimics shifts, like Nissan's XTronic CVT for example, but again, I think keeping a CVT like the one in the Corolla should give you better overall power to accelerate. Now I believe the SE and XSE trims have a CVT that mimics shifts, I don't exactly know for sure.

It does do “fake shifting” despite you saying it doesn’t several times. Every video show g 0-60 testing of this powertrain shows it shifting. Even this video at around 9:20 it does it. That’s not even really a good thing because it probably adds an extra half second or more in acceleration times by dropping the RPMs out of the maximum power band for no reason than just “sound better” to people used to the sound of a transmission shifting.

@@RobertDoosh - I know several people, including my roommate, who owns a Subaru and they've been great cars. Roommate's 2022 Forester looks and feels more premium than the Corolla. Hopefully you don't spend more than $25K on one, that would be absolute ludacris 😂 I had a 2016 Corolla S, and the transmission crapped out at 78K miles. My extended bumper to bumper warranty I purchased through Toyota didn't save it either. Customer support says they consider the failure "normal wear and tear" so warranty won't cover a replacement. Not only that..the interior felt Main Stays (Walmart) cheap. The panel gaps and overall fit n finish were inexcusable in my opinion for as much as Toyota wanted for the vehicle (bought brand new). Towards the end of the ownership, the touchscreen display for the radio would sometimes not come on... The driver's door window master switch pulled right out of the pocket when I simply just wanted to close my window. I didn't even yank or pull hard on it 🤣🤣🤣

@@RobertDoosh - I had to sue to get Toyota to honor the warranty I paid over $3500 for. In the end, they were forced to put a remanufactured transmission in it. It still didn't give me any (literally) peace of mind, I ended up getting a one owner, mint 2015 Kia Forte5 because I needed something quick and have already put over 90K miles on the vehicle. Only issue I've had is the Sirius satellite antenna stopped working. I never use it anyway so it doesn't bother me, I was also really surprised how much sturdier the interior panels and trim pieces felt compared to the Corolla. Toyota used to be good back in the '90s.
