2023 Suzuki Grand Vitara GLX Review | Cost of ownership | Features | Driving Impressions

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

When the 2023 Suzuki Grand Vitara launched in South Africa in April 2023, it created quite the buzz and quite the confusion. In the world of turbocharging, the Grand Vitara was naturally aspirated which put it at a disadvantage to its competitors. It was down on power and torque compared to it's rivals. In this video we take a look at the 2023 Suzuki Grand Vitara GLX manual to see if it can even compete with it's turbocharged competition.

My Glx manual goes like a dream, did a trip from Drakensberg to Jhb and did 5,3 L/100km cruising at 115km on cruise control

Loved the video. Picking my Grand Vitara up next week. I know it has the power train issue. But it's what you make of it. I'm not buying it to be fast, I'm buying it for the comfort, utility, reliability, aftersales support and the rest of the creature comforts it offers. I spent a long time comparing it to the Urban Cruiser, Honda BRV, Haval Jolion and the Chery Tiggo7 Pro. With the exception of being slightly underpowered, I believe it's the best overall car of the bunch. Enjoyed the video and subscribed.

Just an update. It's amazing. Power train aside. I love it.

Definitely needs a turbo. That 77kw and a wheezing 137 torque is not getting my money.

Thanks. I have a 2023 suzuki grand vitara auto. it is a lovely car, on the highway and short trips. Fuel consumption 16 Km per litre. I would like more detail in your presentations about the engine and drive traih and more. eg this one has a serpentine belt

I saw a video recently in which the commentator said the Fronx is the crossover of the baleno.

It is. Car companies have been taking small cars and turning them into crossovers. Crossovers are basically cars that look like SUV’s, but with none of the capabilities.

This car is not a sub compact crossover, that would be the designation if this was an American market car where everything is bigger. Because its in the 4.3m category its in the compact crossover Segment. Vehicles like the Hyundai Venue and Suzuki Ignis would be in the sub compact category since they are below or barely at 4m. Secondly this car isnt based on the Baleno, its its own thing based on the Global C Suzuki platform. The only similarity with the Baleno design wise is that it uses the Dynamic Futureism design language. Finally yes I agree it could use the Turbo but that would drastically up th price(look at the Vitara and Swift Sport to see more). This car is made in India where the 1.4L Boosterjet is not made and would have to be imported, thus upping the cost. Suzuki is trying to price this car to beat the Chineese and the usual 4.3m suspects like your Corolla Cross and Seltos, its also why they put the 4 speed auto in all but the highest trim(so yeah if you really need the 6 speed its there, plus you get a very mild hybrid for your trouble). It was good that you got the sales rep to answer some of the questions you had about the GV's purpose but he didnt answer the question about the Brezza, that car is being discontinued as that version of the car is no longer being made and the new one is more expensive. Also the Jolion's boot and the GV's are basically the same when you measure them with a actual tape measure, they are both disappointing for the Size.

The Fronx is a Baleno but not the Grand Vitara

Stay away from that 1.5l - its old and will last but the power is terrible. I'm shocked how bad the Autobox is. Only 4 gears and it sings a terrible sound. As you said, It just doesn't make sense what the hell Suzuki SA are doing with these cars and the obsession with the 1.5l engine.

I agree with you the engine is lacklustre but not totally absurd, this vehicle barely weighs 1.1t with the lowish power figures, the auto is outdated but does get the job done, IVT in hyundai's 1.5 na is much better, but they sell that 1.5 on heavier cars like the creta for upwards of 100k more! that feels like a much bigger issue

Not true. My son bought the GLX auto and I found it drives very well. Very refined ride and amazing features for the price.

@@jeroenjansen2709 Refined when compared to what? I suggest you give the Vitara 1.4 Boosterjet a drive. That's refined and the performance is great. Recently test drove the Fronx. This means 4 cars now have the same KB15 engine. The Fronx in India gets the 1.0l Boosterjet which outperforms the Grand Vitara on performance and price. I wish your son all the best in his new car. Sadly for me Suzuki South Africa lost the plot a long time ago.

@Seigerz Performance and refinement are two different things. I have had a RAV4, CX5 and I still have a X-trail to compare it with. Performance isn't everything. Although my CX5 was much more powerful, I don't miss it.
