great review!
Dealers in Wisconsin sitting on them, seen an ad last week of a dealer with 4 of them. Many backed out on spring orders due to the price and interest on loans.

Mark the Professor. Doesn't get any more technically detailed yet easily understood for us wannabee professors. If I was 15 years younger I'd be buying one but I'm already over my head with my 850 VR1 from last year. I just hope I don't meet one this winter on a nice smooth lake up here in northern Ontario or I would likely want to pull the trigger this spring. ! Love your "straight to the chase" reviews! (no pun intended)
Awesome sled all around.
Ice cream out the nose 😂 Love your videos Mark what an awesome sled go Polaris!
You didn't mention the clutching issues and I noticed someone added the adjuster bolt/nut to the secondary. They don't come this way, so I'm wondering if this was a recall issue of dealer fix?
Hi Mark. Was this sled just delivered. Kinda late in the season for a walk around on such a hot 2023. Also, turbo 2 stroke is nothing new even by OEMs. Doo has been selling them for a couple years now. Plus there are several dealers with them as the price point is now too high. Thanks for sharing the information.
For the GoPro clips put mini dead cats on the mic’s of the GoPro to eliminate the wind noise that’s what I do
I like the video Mark! Great job! I just think speed kills. Here in Wisconsin seems to be the case this season. People going way to fast on the trails and getting killed. But, I know, it's not the sled, it's the person driving it needs to be more responsible.
I know this is a boost video but so have a question about the 650. I currently have a 2014 Switchback PRO-R 800 and want to know how the 650 compares to that vintage Liberty 800. This isn’t the Axys with the lightweight crank. Does this 800 still have a higher top-end power? How comparable is the bottom-end grunt?
Anyone notice around 18:00 the speedo touches 124? I’m assuming MPH? Mine won’t go beyond 115, not that I really need to go faster but was surprised by that. Anyone else experience that kind of top end?
I've run these across the lake against a stock Thundercat and the was just a touch faster on the top end It was almost tip tip close, but the advantages are on the trail corner to corner. The advantage on a four strokes is the longevity, durability and ability to get an easy 300hp out of them tuned
@ijimmythekid6918

The weight penalty of a 4-stroke is abhorrent and heinous in tight twisty trails, the 2-stroke will run off and leave any 4-stroke in tight trails.
I think it's awesome would love to see it head to head with the doo 850 turbo in the lynx/ski doo platform

How does the turbo get oiled?
Is that beginning clip showing this wide open? I have been hearing these are 120mph sleds on hard pack, but that looked like it was struggling after 90mph. I'm just wondering what to believe.

Maybe watch more than just the beginning clip lol. At 18:10 you can see it clearly pull hard asf past 120
Is the assault boost faster then the vr1 top speed
Would love to see a lake race with all 4 big turbo sleds. Like u did last season with ski doo Z and thunder cat. Now that be something to see.
Rode one. Lifted the rear end and it was suprisingly light. Handled well. Had good power and ran good. Couldn't beat a 2017 129" 998 Cat head to head from a dead stop. Based on what my sled dynos at I estimated the Polaris turbo makes a legit 180-190hp. The Cat 998 stock with only a can on it was a legit 205-215 maybe 220hp. These newer high end turbo models don't have any turbo lag from a dead stop or from a roll and do run very good even without a tune on them.

I have a T-cat and gotta say it's one impressive trail sled (once the issues with the poorly engineered drivetrain have been addressed). Would love to try one of these VR1s but I got a feeling I will never go 2 stroke again.
They put the battery in the back because Ski-Doo does same thing since 2017 when Gen 4 was introduced. The new Doo turbo R introduced for 2024 has water injection for cooler air intake temps and more consistent engine performance.
No one does, or says it better!
so no throttle hang at 5000 rpm??
Needs some Produmax !!
Do they eat plugs like my buddys 22 rmk khaos on cold starts? 1 weekend 4 sets of plugs.....

Yea Polaris needs to address those. I hope they do. Unlike Doo with their grenading chain cases and reed failures.
Standard 850 are plenty fast. I don’t see the use for the complexity added by turbo on already short life 2 stroke engine. It is cool but not necessary.

@@208SledHead i would not say that. I will test the ski doo one this March….will you ? It will be fun i am sure but honestly it is more a marketing thing than a necessity. I like better suspension than more power; my favorite test sled from 2022 was the Lynx Rave 850 over the Mach Z.

@@jerl.980 You're missing the point. YOU do not write the book on what is "necessary." A Rolls Royce is not necessary. A 1 ton truck is not necessary. A 4,000 sq. ft. house is not necessary. See what I did there???
the battery is in the back because of the turbo getting hot during use and you don't want a red hot turbo close to your battery
Its just like motorcycles but now as much power on snow. All about who has throttle control and who doesn't . whoever comes home can stay for another season lol.

How come nobody notices that the mapping for Ontario at least is so outdated an incorrect it renders it useless??? You should be able to download the Ontario federation snowmobile club map system far superior!! Almost got my head, taken off by a farmer because it showed I was on a trail that was gone for years ago!!! just saying
No where to ride this at it's full potential on the trail as a 137, and if you take it too the lake the 4 stroke turbos will surely blow by this sled. belongs in the mountains with a longer track.

Rode that exact sled, wasn't impressed. Won't go over 115, rear wheels were falling off horrible fuel mileage, fouled a bunch of plugs. My 2002 zr800 walks this sled.
100lbs difference between the competitors 4 strokes and this VR1, you can always tell how bias Mark is towards Polaris. Maybe Yamaha and arctic cat but not the Doo sleds 850 boost Polaris = 491 lbs dry 900 turbo XRS skidoo with smart shox = 531 lbs dry By my math, that's 40lb Even if it was the Mack Z that's 60lbs more Sometimes i wonder why I give Snowtrax my views when I see videos like this. Even on the S4 blatantly insulting Skidoo for their "throttle lag"
@pajamatime5750

Don’t let them hurt your feelings! Go watch something else if viewing this content has you wondering! Skidoo had throttle lag. That’s a fact. And Mark obviously means “up to 100lbs”…. It’s not anything to cry about!!

I agree no clue where polaris says they are 110lbs lighter than competition the manufacturer has yet to responde whom the competition is agreed a 2022 mach z was 548lbs and thundercat 603lbs. Not sure whos weighting them. And a mach z had list price of $22,900 with smart shocks so the price of polaris boost make no sence either. At $24,500. And im a polaris fan. But all dosen't make sence whos holding the manufacturers accountable for their miss information. All a big marketing ploy to say the least
@gtileo
Жыл бұрын
@@eugenezalevich437 I think the T Cats are more then 603, last i checked i saw the a basic 600 cat was that weight dry, they're pretty over weight sleds if you ask me Pajama Time- there really is no more lag on a doo drive by wire then any other engine that uses a drive by wire throttle. Even in your cars DBW there is a lag, the signal is going through various modules, in cars though it's easier to build a throttle map as the modules on cars are alot bigger and tend to be more advanced on initial throttle in to counter the signal delay. The only laggy mode on a doo is eco mode, but it's a numbed down mode to make it easier to save fuel and modulate lower power, sport mode on anything other then a 900 NA can be rather jerky so i leave mine in standard mode and some new clutch springs it's night and day responsive, doo just tends to use rather soft conservative clutch springs
The problem I have with the turbo 2 strokes is just how horrible the fuel mileage is. It's not just bad. It's insanely bad. So bad I'm amazed the EPA let these exist. Like 3-5 MPG shouldn't be allowed. That's why these made more sense in the mountains. When you trail ride this sled, plan your trip around gas stations and never pass them. They are your priority destinations.
@BorealEDC
