Looks pretty similar to my IS 350. That is, I got used to it. It's not bad, it's just not instant either. I am glad Nissan doesn't do the BMW thing with the needle of making the needle _snap_ into place before the gear change actually happens.

The car still looks new and probably has less than a couple thousand miles on it...all modern auto transmissions now are adaptive to the drivers driving habits so i would venture to say the real owners of these cars wont complain about the shift time as once they drive for a good period of time the trans will actually speed up certain shifts to cater to that specific driver and his/her driving habits

Like the car for sure, but 50k plus seems a bit high especially when you can get a Supra 3.0 base or a Camaro 2SS 1LE for that range. A sweet spot might be a trim with performance upgrades (diff, brakes, etc) that lies between the sport and performance trim. I can forgo the leather seats and cosmetic items if I can get better brakes, diff, and exhaust. I hope Nissan will at least offer the mechanical performance parts as options for the Sport trim.

The Supra 3L begins at $55K. Why should this car cost less than those btw? 😏 The VR30 engine is great and derived from the legendary VR38 - the Queen of Imports. The styling is new and fresh; the suspension is much improved; the 9-sp auto is sourced from Mercedes and is great; the steering feel is good and better than the numb steering of the Supra; the handling is great; basically everything about it is good to great. Why should it cost less? 🤔 🙄

Don't get me wrong I think it's a good car and something to consider which I'm. But in saying that, my comment about the price stems from the fact that the Z is on a 13 plus year old platform, quality of the suspension/chassis parts seems cheaper then the Supra (granted with the wishbone suspension and other changes I'm sure the car will handle well), and an interior that has a lot of hard plastics. Additionally, not that straight line speed is everything, but it's slower then the Supra. Lastly, I referenced the base trim Supra 3L which starts at 52k and has everything the Z Performance has plus adaptive dampers and better material quality. My point was say that Nissan would sell a shit load more if they positioned the Z Performance at $47k plus based on what you're getting overall as a product. With the pricing set aside, the new Z seems like a great choice with lots of potential if you consider the aftermarket parts that will be available. I'm looking forward to seeing it and driving it when it becomes available.

The zf is probably the best torque converter auto in the business. So to put it in simple terms after watching 50 reviews online lol. The zf is a great transmission, this 9 speed is a good transmission. There will be transmission tunes on this very quickly for people who want more, fyi people were getting shift times of a 100 milliseconds with a Mercedes 9g transmission tune ( basically same trans) A BMW dct shifts around 80 milliseconds to put it in perspective. Also this trans can hold 700 lb of torque so it should be good for the aftermarket.

Just speculating about this, but I feel like those who put a dct in their sportier cars are the companies that expect to sell a majority of their cars in auto, like BMW, Hyundai, Porsche etc. Idk if this is the case with Nissan. Maybe they have one in works for the new gtr, and didn't want to spoil it and it will be a refresh upgrade for the Z? Its obviously more preferable when you're going to do some spirited driving, but when youre just cruising or coming home from work, a manual is kind of annoying. What hyundai and VW have been doing with their DCT's has greatly improved sales of the cars, which in turn allows these companies to take risks with performance stuff. Nissan already has made DCT's before in the GTR, why not just bring that transmission over? Same with the new gr86/brz and the new WRX. those cars would be absolute monsters with DCTs but they chose to give a boring regular automatic or an absolutely horrific cvt (wtaf subaru?)

The traditional auto is the way to go for a car that splits duty as a track car/daily driver. I've had cars with the dual clutch and at low speeds around town the shifts are Jerry. Not pleasant for daily driving. If you really using the car as track only get the Manuel. If it were my money the auto works well enough.

Beautiful car, beautiful color, but the transmission seems to let it down. Maybe a ZF would have brought some better quicker shifts instead of the in house truck trans. Shifts sounded very 'MEH'.

Most people aren't complaining about this auto transmission. Out of 40 reviews I've heard one bad review about it and thats "the smoking tire." Zf has the edge but that doesn't mean the 9 speed is bad. At the end of the day people who already planned to get the 9 speed won't change their mind based on the reviews.

It’s powered by the same VR30 motor out of the Q60RS which has been observed to dyno between 370-380whp on occasion; and that’s through a heavier driveshaft and less efficient 7AT. So the crank rating is likely in 430-440hp range. But regardless of what the power output is, it’s too much for the tires Nissan chose. Most of the launch/drag runs are showing it spin through 1st n 2nd and chirping in 3rd. Hopefully they equip it with better rubber in the 2024s

But cruising the neighborhood, Topher BRZ POV seems more fun winding thru gears without necessarily destroying speed limit.

How did hyundai manage to make a better automatic transmission than nissan at a lower price point lmao. Why didnt they just put the gtr dct in this? I will never get these types of decisions

Probably it have something to do with their in house production. Hyundai made a lot of in house parts which resulted in a lower production cost. For the lower price like those under 40k car, Hyundai transmission are one of the best in its class but when 50+k hits they fell behind the German in a pretty noticeable difference. But still props to their lower range like the Elantra n and possibly sonata n line if they decide to make it with limited slip diff or at least awd option
