Update: 21:30 - 25 April - "Sam Smith has now been released from hospital and will continue his recovery at home."
Sam Smith suffered a huge accident in the Mini Challenge UK race at Donington Park when what would seem to be a brake failure, pitched him onto a collision course with the car of Dan Zelos at turn 1, forcing the race to be stopped immediately and declared official.

Good job in waiting for news before posting this
Got to be the 7th or 8th brake failure I've seen at Donington in 5 years. The place is very hard on brakes and not many people expect it. Redgate as well seems to be the place it all lets go. I've seen careers ended there in the past few years due to brakes going into redgate

Yes, I was at the circuit for this event, and last year I think it was when the Nissan went straight on.

The car he slammed into saved him
nasty crahs glad he is ok considering he seemed to be knoked out at first
Believe this was caused by a brake failure after leaking all of the fluid
I am surprised the car don't rollover

How, Why?
Either stick throttle or brake failure that was a failure for sure

Brakes would be my guess, considering there was no lock ups of any kind.

He would have turned the car off & smoke would of poured from the brakes & tyres.... this was a brake failure

It seems likely his brakes failed or his throttle stuck wide open. He veered right to avoid the cars in front.
He's OK? He doesn't move 🙄

I can confirm he back at gis home to recover
He is so lucky he hit Zelos, that could’ve digged into the gravel, rolled over and potentially gone over the fence and into the crowd
