2023 Mako 18 LTS Boat Review

Brand new Mako 18 LTS package. I opted out of the poling platform but took advantage of many practical features you will see in this video. I will cover some general details about the boat as well as tips on how I will use it for different applications.

    I own a 2011 Mako 18 LTS. These boats get a bad rap online but I love mine. I originally had a 90 HP Optimax but swapped it out for a 2014 Yamaha F115. The boat isn’t fast but I get about 42 mph at wide open with a light load. It is more comfortable and handles choppy conditions better than other 18 foot boats I’ve been in. I have a single 8 foot power pole anchor as well as a 9 foot stick anchor. Overall, I am very pleased with my 18 LTS.

    I love my 2014, same exact set up, except for the trolling motor, but thinking on that exact same one, so a review on the trolling on this boat will be awesome.

    Cool thanks for commenting. Check out my Mako follow up review for more trolling motor info. I will give you a few tips I think are vital. #1 if you buy the model that attaches to the deck with no quick release (like I did) do not use the plug into the receiver on deck. It will corrode and cause issues quickly and often. Hard wire it straight so that there is no connection point to corrode. Also, the spotlock is great but just remember the transducer on the back of the boat is where your bottom reading comes from and the trolling motor head in the front is where the GPS locks. Also the spotlock does seem to gradually drift back but typically I can simply drive forward the same direction the trolling motor is pointing to get right back on the original spot. You will only notice this issue when you are trying to hold on structure to fish directly below boat

    Thanks James! Here is the impressions video. So far I am using simply a short rope tied to the bow ring in the front of the boat and it is working fine so I don’t have to drill any more holes. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eaqBmNBtl620qdo.html

    Put two Minn Kota Rapters on it, with active anchoring, you will never regret it. Get the mounting brackets that connect to the jack plate. I have them on my 18.1 Tracker boat. Planning on putting them on my Mako Pro Skiff 17

    Hi! Glad I found your channel! We're looking at purchasing a 2024 model. Had a few questions if you don't mind. Trailer is listed as 23'8". Do you know if that's with the tongue folded or extended? How were you able to add that MK Terrova? The only option I see in bass pro and Make is for a hand controlled MK. Also the Garmin. How were you able to include that in your package? I don't see an option for it. Thanks for a thorough video! You still enjoying the boat? Any issues so far?

  • @mgsfishing

    @mgsfishing

    3 ай бұрын

    thanks for subscribing! 23'8" is the overall tongue to propeller length (tongue extended). so in other words, the on the truck length. all options I got, I was able to get by talking to the salesman at Bass Pro. Are there better boats out there? for sure, but I still contend, not for the price of the Mako. It is plenty good to me for the price.

    MGS, do you find the throttle to be extremely stiff and has it loosened up for you at all? I have used mine 4 times now and it is really stiff when moving from idle to the plane & vice versa. It is so stiff that I cannot come off the plane without jerking everyone in the boat forward. Not sure if I need to loosen the tension a bit or if it will ease up, tight lines. Thanks - Jack

  • @mgsfishing

    @mgsfishing

    Жыл бұрын

    There is definitely something wrong. I didn’t have that problem. Mine has some play in it going into reverse that I have gotten used to but certainly not stiff. What you are describing is usually what happens when shifter cables need to be replaced but I doubt that since its brand new. Definitely take it back for them to look at.

    They are called "fenders" not bumpers. The people that call them bumpers are the same ones that call a gun magazine a gun clip.... Good review. You should film running it in a chop to see how it handles.

  • @mgsfishing

    it does not. Probably would if the trailer was backed too far in the water. This boat and trailer loads better with the trailer bunk boards barely under water.

    Mako fit and finish is very poor, I looked at one and it fell way short of my expectations, exspecially with a 45, 000.oo plus cost. Pretty boat though from the outside just don't like the way they do not finish the top cap, hull and interior boxes!
