2023 Lexus RZ 450e: More than a gussied up Toyota bz4X!
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
MotoMan drives the first ever @lexus #EV, the @DiscoverLexus RZ 450e - and the one with the steer by wire system. He kicks off the episode by answering how the @lexususa7808 RZ is different than both the Lexus RX and the Lexus NX aside from the propulsion system and then demonstrates the steer by wire system in a real world application.

I like this vehicle and I don't like crossovers. But I like this one. I also think it has a fair price for all of the Lexus characteristics and perks. About the steer by wire, it's about steer by wire, not yoke. It could have any type of steering wheel. The yoke part isn't all that important. The variable part of the steer by wire is. I just find this not to be a gimmicky car, at least for the most part. I appreciate that. The review is very measured so it was very informative in that way.
Totally ok with the car's design aesthetics but... $65k price + 200mi range + prop rod for hood + yoke steering + vmax 99mph (or just any 3 of those values combined)= Easy 'No Go'. Toyota/Lexus needs to do way better. Specifically in regard to the yoke thing where you made some great points.... I would convey the concern by saying it this way : Muscle memory in humans is real & just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.
Does Lexus/TOYOTA offers some kind of guaranty when it comes to talk about the netural deterioration of the LITHIUM Ion Battery? You know... Like the same way that happens to our phones, then eventually we have to change them weather we want it or not.
Great overall review of the RZ! Beautifully designed vehicle!
15:59 Heyyyyyy Shout out to the LC! my vanity plate is THAT LC 🤣
As a fellow pilot, I agree with you on the yoke being cool, but a potentially very bad idea in an automobile. I got a chance to catch a rather nauseating ride in someone’s Tesla Model S plaid which also had this yoke instead of the traditional steering and was too much car for this person’s driving ability, but I digress. I love Lexus as a brand and the dealership experience both during and after the sale is second to none. However, I don’t think they’re competitive in the EV segment. This battery architecture IMO is still not competitive with the Germans or Americans at this time specifically with regard to range. Hopefully Satosan can get Toyota/Lexus’ future EV vehicles to the point where they not only compete but dominate the competition. At that point, I’ll gladly become a Lexus owner again.
Like the seats. Don't like the dash or yoke. $70G and it has a hood prop rod?
You are a great salesman for Lexus
Thank God I will buy one for myself
I love it ❤
Superbe voiture 🚗
The yoke works well in their home country where you have nothing but corners with an extremely tight turning radius. I think Lexus has failed to create a vehicle that does everything well. In the US, you don't need a yoke and you certainly don't need steer by wire but you do need higher range. A standard wheel with greater range at that price and they can take my money.
Lexus actually has another electric car called the UX300e (Based on Toyota’s CHR). Its been on sales outside the US since 2021. Not sure if the UX will ever be imported to America as it’s pretty small.
15:48 Here is my wager: They either put it or allow it in the top teir trim only. If its put in a top teir trim that's still an option package you must select. Or its simply a stand alone option. As for price as a stand alone id say... 🤔 1500. Here is the thing. If you look at their builds for all their cars any major system like RWS for instance is buried in packages not allowing for alacart. So... i don't know its 6 in one half a dozen in the other.
Premium 18" wheel get 220 mile $59k 😊 Lexus #1
If you operate an EV already, you know that you do not charge a car to 100% or discharge a car completely to 0%. So with a range of 195miles with a 90% charge, the car has 175.5 miles of range, with a 95% discharge, the usable range of the car is 165 miles, and that is in the best case scenario. Cold weather, rain or just headwinds can a reduce the range another 20-25%. easily. My Model Y has an official range of 330 miles, at 90% charge it can do 297 in mixed driving with perfect weather and 1 person in it. On a highway with my family and our luggage, 70+ mile speeds we get between 230-250 miles. This Lexus with slow DC charging and limited range will never be a road trip car but could be an OK car for trips around town, nothing more than that.

I can’t use the yoke bc I’m the type of driver that always steers with just one hand at the 12’oclock while texting with my other hand. 😎. JK
No one should ever be grabbing the top of the steering anyway. It’s unstable, and unsafe thanks to the airbag.
I can see this dude is an Italian

Is the yoke steering wheel an answer to a question nobody asked? Why reinvent the wheel (pun intended)?

KIA & Lexus easy choice for me Lexus 😊
Do you really want to associate this with the BZ4X??? Mega recall then substandard software in Euro that leads to serious charging throttling after 2 (or 3.8 after May update) charges….
Lexus, don't reinvent the wheel!! 🙄 I like this car, but it needs a 360° circumference to hold on to and leather seats. 👍
Th only interesting part of the car is the yoke wheel. Its better than the tesla yoke by miles. Other than that nothing else is interesting
Toyota is infamous for slow rolling their car’s options and upgrades. I bet in 3-5 years, this car will have a better range and better performance. The 99mph v max is retardard.
It’s a nice luxury car with mediocre specks. The battery is too small for that size car with it’s efficiency and the horsepower is just okay compared to the competition. As an EV it’s a pretty weak entry.
Too short range... I think Genesis is much better. As a big fan of Toyota, it's a pitty that Toyota is becoming outdated in these EV era.

The steering wheel will cause accidents / crashes and fatalities. The airbag deployment without the top portion of a normal circular steering wheel will mean the driver will be thrown forward onto the airbag and windscreen more pronounced causing severe head injury. That steering design is best kept in the amusement park.
Odd there are over 12 comments as of me writing this comment and this is the 4th vid I've watched w/ the same situation. KZread is logging all comments as zero... Just saying.

That yoke….a roughly 200 mile range….vmax of 99 mph…$65k? Couldn’t Lexus do a little better???
Toyota wasn't "late" to the EV party; they chose not to attend as they knew full well it is just a "flash in the pan" type thing. BEV is not sustainable financially or resource-wise. Now that EU has exempted ICE using carbon neutral synthetic fuel from the 2035 ban, there is no reason to stop using the vastly more flexible ICE or ICE/hybrid EV. 100 years ago, 30% of cars in the US were.....battery EVs. They lost to gasoline and history is about to repeat itself.
This is an EV made by a company that fundamentally does not believe in EVs, and it seriously shows. It's reflected in its poor specs.
Those uglier steering wheels will never catch in they need to just stop. Some things just leave alone
Horrid
It's a shame how overpriced it is for what you get.

I don't think the Tesla Model Y has anything to worry about with this offering from Toyota/Lexus. The Model Y offers 250kw charging speed, 100 miles more range, faster 0-60 time, over-the-air updates, a ROUND steering wheel (!), and of course the reliable Tesla Supercharger network.
