Me (64 years old) and my 69 yo friend are on the NMBDR now. Have hit lots of big loose rocky downhills. Scary, but doing pretty well. We are both new to dirt. Learn a lot.

I've found motorcycle luggage is like my wife's purse... the more space you have the more stuff you put in it to fill said space. I've been running my hobo setup of waterproof duffle and rok straps but am looking for a good reckless replacement. I've been eying the Mosko Moto rackless 40L or the Giant Loop 40L, the horseshoe shaped one. It's great to see you using what you already have for luggage. I've never had any before and am used to packing from my hiking and camping days.

Hello. I used the shortcut up and down keys to access the heated grips and drive modes with a single push of a button. Super easy to configure. And much quicker/easier to change when driving. Please do a review of the tire. I'm looking at those for my replacements. Cheers

Chaparral Motorsports has done some excellent reviews on them already, give them a watch. The Rall Z are good tires for off-road and on road but only last around 3k miles. The Tractionator Adventure version is a little less capable off-road but lasts twice as long at around 6k miles. Then the MotoZ GPS last around 12k miles but are more road biased.

Have a '23 KTM 890 Adv (non R due to my less than generous inseam). 9000+ reliable kms. Biggest issue I've had is getting OEM accessories as many are backordered without an availability time frame. I've spoken with KTM corporate who said it's supply chain issues.

Very good... the gps mount are now on my list.... I just sale my r1200gs ( I run 4 years) to buy this summer the ktm 890 adv ( 2023 standard one ) . The mosko moto backcountry panniers are the best ... I use them (35 L ) on the r1200gs, and I m gonna put this system on my new ktm, probably put the 25L this time.... ( I run all time solo, I don't need a lot) ... mosko moto The best and so user-friendly....

Dan, new to Adv R world , how tall are you? Bar risers? love to be comfortable standing up. Steering stabilizer? Love to hear your thoughts

6'1"... I use to do bar risers, but after watching some of Chris Birch and other off road coaches, I've adjusted my standing position rather than going the riser route. Chris Birch "Say no to Slow" is course is worth the money. I've not done a steering stabilizer, but I'm sure it would be helpful.

Ergonomics seem to be different for everyone. For me, better than stock, I like to move around. Just got back from the COBDR no regrets on seat choice

Whats been your experience with KTM 890 reliability? what has broken or caused you alarm? I watch on KZread and read a ton -- and it seems unlike BMW, KTM has a ton of issues. My goal is to travel to South America or Africa on one -- and I cant have it break down in a bad spot with no help... BMW is solid as a rock -- I've traveled the world on multiple bikes and nobody can tell me different -- but they are just too dang heavy... I want to pull the trigger on KTM but every time -- I hear another story that holds me back... Can you shed light on your mileage, your experience with issues being totally honest.

I hear the same stories and have the same concerns... Between my 1290 and 890 I only have 7k miles, but i've had no major issues.. Seems like bolts come loose more often than with my Hondas, but nothing of major concern. All of that being said, I'm still nervous, because of the aforementioned constant reliability issue stories on KZread and forums. If I were traveling the world, I'd be on a Japanese bike, but for my purposes, I like the higher spec lower weight machines and I can live with the reliability risk... for now.

Consider an adventurised 500. As long as you are aiming for as much dirt as you can, nothing beats it.

So many bad KTM stories out there, but I've just passed 23,000 km on my 2021 KTM 690 Enduro R and not a single issue. A friend has 36,000 km on his 2019 690, no issues. I plan to upgrade to an 890 soon and hope I get the same reliability as my 690. Cheers

@@glossblack1098 there is no comparison between the early 690 say up to 2013 and the new motors from 2019. The early 690 tarnished their reputation mainly due to failed valve rockers. I’ve watched some significant ride disasters and even Lyndon Poskitt had a number of failures because of it. If I was wanting any reassurance for big distance travel I’d install the new TacoMoto 3000hr fuel pump and filters. Re the 500,case is long closed on how reliable the post 13 motors are.

I hate the fully closed faring on the 2023. I prefer the open fairing look of the 2022. 890 enduro R It makes it look more like a real dirt bike.

I guess it's true, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Of all the reviews I've seen and all the people I've ridden with, you're the first I've heard to like the looks of the 2022, more than the 2023. Both great bikes, thanks for watching and commenting.
