@@Weltbummler23 it’ll do till that unicorn ever arrives. There’s a reason why it’s a unicorn. Because it doesn’t exist, and you have to take the next best thing. A DRZ. or you lump the extra weight, and buy the 690. Tough cookies, unfortunately.

@@martyn_g yup next best thing for my needs is either the crf300L, klx300 or 690er. I ride highways too much and cant stand the narrow 5spd on the drz. There is an aftermarket wide ratio drz gearbox avail, it will just cost $2k to get it installed and there’s still a compromise on the spread.
This is the life I'm trying to live. But my wife.....

Amen, brother! I got back from a 5 day adventure bike class (Dragoo Adventure Rider Training) and my wife was *not* impressed when I explained how I totally had good reason to keep two 1250GS’. One spec’d for street, other an adventure beast. Very not impressed, she was.

still the unicorn. ktm thank you so much for continuing to offer and evolve the 690. i have two a 2021 690e and 2014 690e converted to supermoto. they're both fabulous. there's nothing else like the 690.
690/701 are the best do-it-all bikes ever made.
Awesome bike and riding but the real champ here is whoever is filming, flying the drone and editing. Super cool stuff 👍✌

@@martinwiklund7106 the 390 engine has been manufactured since 2013, and it really is not great compared to that of the sx-f 350 (which is more powerful and much lighter) or the 690 (which is barely heavier, for performance and endurance largely upper). the Adventure 390 already matches the claim of its engine very well While the 490 will be at best a miniature 790, therefore heavy, wide, not coupler... its only interest would be its low manufacturing price. No interest in a high-performance trail like KTM is used to doing. the 490 will be used for a road trail, a beginner's roadster and a small sportbike

@@alkane6467 got a 690 enduro r, love it but a smaller, less powerful Engine like a 390 would be better. The 690 is way to powerful for offroad, on the streets it rips but there you got the 690 smcr

Got one ordered for 2024. This will be my first machine that isn't a sport bike. Gonna get it outfitted for travel.
Lmao every body on the internet was showing black and white promos and where speculating that it would be a 490 enduro or something but is was just a updated 690 enduro😂

Did they update the 6 speed to a wide ratio transmission or is it the same gear ratios as before. That’s been one reason I’ve held off buying one.

I really need one of these.
The innovative use of the rear fuel tank as the main structural element of the subframe keeps weight low and eliminates structural complexity, but I think it seriously weakens the rear part of the structure, which may crack, especially if carrying heavy luggage, unless I'm mistaken

I think KTM made a big deal out of this because rumours were flying around that it was being discontinued- that GasGas was taking over with the ES.

The suspension is definitely much better, horsepower is almost double, and the weight is about the same. As for smiles per dollar, no not as good. A DR is definitely more reliable too, just depends on what you want. A long haul rally / race bike or a 25 year old workhorse

I have one too, I mounted 2008 Supermoto R suspensions, and a Duke 790 headlight an incredible machine 😍

Yeah, felt quite off to me.
Now with completely new orange seat!
Just sold my 690, I'm not sad about it. The 500 is much more agile. Turns out you can't have a do it all bike because.... tires!

Yep! Did the same thing except went with the Husqvarna Fe450. Swap in a larger tank for 200 mile range, dual sport wheels/tires, and comfy seat for extended dual sport rides then swap back to stock equipment for off road. Two bikes in one.

I hate to say it but yes. My 2017 had just over 12,000 miles 80 percent was off road. The Honda always did me good, it was just the lack of power and the suspension was on the side of being to soft. But the Honda always started and was able to get me everywhere I wanted to go plus the fuel mileage was awesome. In the end though I am glad I did the upgrade.

Mine did that when I bought it. Cleaning the injector and going through an ECU re-learn took care of it... or maybe the re-map and disabling SAS did it. Even with all that, this bike doesn't like to lug even if the fueling is on point

Been trying to find a new2022 for the last 6 months maybe I can find a 2023
I had a MY2020, I sold it because, 1) seat height is to tall for me (I am 6ft4), seat needs to be at least 2 inches lower for safe riding off road. 2) first gear is too tall a meaning trickle speed is too fast on tight technical terrain. if I geared it down it would ruin the top end speed. Just ask why Lyndon Poskit chose to swap out his gearbox for his RTW adventures. 3) seat was so hard and also too narrow with a convex shape. It was like sitting on a lightly padded telegraph pole, Seat Concepr To can solve the seat problem, why can’t KTM design team?. 4) there was no rev counter or fuel gauge. 5) the lightest of contact with the exhaust results in 2nd degree burns. 6) at 157kg fully fuelled its 15 to 20kg too heavy even with the low under seat fuel tank. Does the 2023 model fix any of these issues?.

rev counter? are you kidding? you have no ears or feelings _(of obvious vibrations)_ ? you have to change exhaust for decat anyway
Please consider an ADV version of the 690 with 790/890 tanks.
Youth in india is eagerly waiting for the 400 and 600 segment bike if get get that in ktm It would be the best

Is the exhaust still burning pants, a lugage, plastics and the suspension is like a piece of wood? One needs to invest thousands of euros to improve it and after one year still not perfect. Authorised WP service quite far away and many iterations are needed, a local KTM dealer will not help you in the suspension matter. On the other side, no comparable motorcycle in this weight class on the market, 2021 model owner.

Exhaust change is a must on this bike? Especially when riding with saddle bags? Which one has lowest sound and heat? Wings? Akrapovic? Remus?

Exchange of the exhaust is a must. Akrap is almost like original. Arrow has homologated one with catalyzer. Light, cold and the engine is starting to breath. A huge increase of a torque on low rpm. No more burned soft sidebags, I don't use a rack.
If there was a choice - I wish it would come with cruise control rather than a quick shifter
