I did this test with my 2024 TE 300 today. Breaking in the bike with less than 70% throttle most of the time riding easy single track and some easy enduro canyons. Fuel light came on at 38mi. Bike began to sputter at 59mi. I was riding easy smooth single track with an occasional little bump in the trail when it "ran out of fuel" There was about 2 inches of fuel left in the left wing of the OEM tank. Not too bad. I'll carry a 30oz bottle of fuel for now. Maybe get the acerbis tank in time.

Yeh same with my KTM the fuel level strip must be above fuel and get warm to send the signal to the dash. Very good. I am thinking accelerating is what forces fuel up into the pump cavity. You fast guys could wheelie that last pint of fuel out.

Nice video! Hope you feel better soon. Even while sick you ride better than I do... KTM must be using super secret absorber pad fuel storage technology in the fuel pump pickup bag. Perhaps they contracted with "Depends". 😆 Kidding aside, good to see the system works. That bike sounds great too.

Me and a friend took our new 23 300 xc TBI out this past weekend in TN and I have 4 hours on mine now and we are at about 500 to 1000 feet of elevation and I got 31mpg. I rode 40 miles and climbed a few extra big hills and I used 1.3 gallons of gas. I took my tank off the bike when I got home and emptied it in a gallon jug and I had exactly 1 gallon left.

This is why anyone that can support you on Patreon should. And, why I’m driving 5hrs to bring my bike to Highland Cycle for service. Sounds like a pitch, not affiliated with Highland Cycles, but after following Morgan for a few years, I know his content is excellent. Informative and entertaining. I’m curious of how many miles you’ll estimate getting on that .88 liter, or an extra liter?. I’m going to use mine as a trail bike mainly. Thanks Man!

I remember one time i ran out of gas at fox raceway on the kx100. It was a little scary but i had some people help me put some fuel in got back to my brothers truck. It's been 2 years not riding, as i have been working and saving a lot.At first i was considering a yz250 2t, then the 23 300 SX but now the 300XC sounds perfect. The riding i mostly did was trails at octillo, helendale, apple valley, and big bear and the first year in 2018 summer ive on two motocross tracks. It would be perfect for me since I'm familiar with two stroke power but made more consistent, not a 250f where its heavy and a powerband that im not familiar with, and definitely not a 450 where its too much of both. Easier to maintenance and gas tank i can see 😆. I just don't know how to start my way into buying it msrp plus fees or financing it. Thank you for this video 🙏, making this 23 300 XC Shine A lot.

I guess pop a few wheelies and keep going up hill and you’ll send the gas back to the pump. Can’t be good on the fuel pump or running lean or dry on the piston if it occasionally pulls air through the system though. KTMs are awesome machines for sure!

So 45 miles is crap and a big tank will get you what 10 or 15 more? Anyone doing big 70 mile+ loops on these things?

See if the mix ratio factors in or not. Do FI bikes typically get better MPG or worse at higher elevation? Less are = less gas but less power = working bike harder... so not sure.

Thanx for good testing. Unfortunately it does not drain all the gas out. Also sad that it could sputter, or cut out for a second or 2 while it still has gas in the tank. An extreme example is during the 1st racing day recently of the WSX, World Super Cross event in Britain when the fuel pump quit on Chad Reed's 2023 KTM 450 and left him with no power. This caused a big crash & broken bones. KTM just never gets things right. I converted my 2022 KTM 300 XC TpI to "2022.9". Lol. 100% premix (removed the oil injection pump & hose) and relocated a fuel injector from the stupid location of in the cylinder at a transfer port to between the throttle body & reed cage. The relocating of 1 or both injectors produces better throttle response, better power & ensures the motor's bottom end and top end get lubrication every second the motor is started & is running.

@@highlandcycles virtually all TPI failures can be attributed to user errors. These bikes have a different fuel map when the coolant temp is low and run very rich. Idiots try to hold the throttle open and get the engine to rev clean like a carb engine and it destroys pistons. Just ride it about exactly one mile and you will feel the ECU switch maps and it leans out and runs great. Don’t go past about half throttle in warm up map.

  • @mikeh423

@@highlandcycles same for TBI bikes. DO NOT rev the piss out of the engine when cold. It isn’t a carbed engine. Even when. Engine is fully warmed up, don’t rev the piss out of the engine when it isn’t under a load. The ECU will pull fuel at high RPM if you are in neutral revving it. No matter how much you think the engine sounds loaded up, it isn’t, it just different. Just wait for it to warm up, then hammer down.

@@highlandcyclesMixing oil in the fuel on TPI bike will cause lean conditions and piston/cylinder damage. fuel/oil ratio and fuel/air ratio are two completely different things and are not related. The ECU in these bikes runs a fixed map with no way to adjust fuel/air mixture because it doesn’t use an O2 sensor. Adding oil in the gas of a TPI bike makes the fuel/air mixture go lean because you replaced some of the fuel being injected into the cylinder with oil. The lean mixture results in high EGT and destroys the piston/cylinder even with the extra oil you just put in it. Many TPI bikes are ruined by mixing oil in the fuel.

@@highlandcycles The crankcase pressure sensors on these bikes do fail sometimes. Some guys have several hundred hours with no CCPS failures, I had one at 8 hours. If the CCPS fails the bike still runs and will get you home, but it runs very rich like it reverts to the warm up mapping. Do not try and run the engine hard if you experience a CCPS failure. If you do you will damage a piston/ cylinder. Instead just ride it at low throttle/low RPM back to the truck and switch it out with a new one. They cost about $50 and are easy to replace.

My opinion is the fuel pump's life get shortened dramatically, There has to be times when the bike is cutting out, Even if you don't notice it because you're at a high rev, Again is just my opinion, And I really don't believe a pro rider would select that bike over a different set up, At least a different tank set up. Still my opinion, I see no benefit of the tbi set up, If anything there would be less horse power, Simply because more oil is mixed with gas, TPI is more separated, Better Ignition, Add a fly wheel weight to that TPI and you will have A ridable trail bike. Exactly what you get with an EC250 or 300, Everyone is buying these mods to change Tbi To run exactly the same as A TPI. Again in my opinion obviously KT m's best year, It's 2022, Especially when you could have a kickstart. Have already broke my stupid button. I do add a part so I could push start it. I love my 2023 gas gas gas EC250, It's awesome, When it blows up, il rebuild it and say it's awesome. And it was about 4000 to 5000 cheaper.
