Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The 2023 Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX, technically isn't the top of the Sport Touring model in the Kawasaki Lineup (that honour belongs to the H2 SX) but this model is a flagship model by every other measurement. Great review again. I just finished watching the RS videos and mentioned my own SX. Whilst I am biaised about Kawasaki and currently own the 2020 version of this bike, I am also buying a brand new Z650RS this month, these reviews are so in depth, well researched and coherent. I hope to keep the Ninja until I can ride no more and one of my sons can have it, but now that I live in rural Wales and no longer go on dual carriage ways never mind motorways, I decided I needed to get a little commuter/runaround. The problem is that anything less than 4k (gbp) tends to be rubbish, tired or chinese. So when the chance came to buy a brand new Z650RS in black for 6500£ I jumped at the chance.

  • @dardobartoli
    @dardobartoli Жыл бұрын

    Had mine for over 2 years and when I was commuting 80 mile round trip, advanved riding weekends, going for 'stuff' with those paniers and simply looking gorgeous it was perfect. Now that most of riding is on single back roads of Wales,, it is still great, but not ideal. I hope never to be in a financial situation where I have to sell the SX, but I am getting the Z650RS to compliment her. Buying bikes should be mostly with the heart, so if you prefer the RS, go with it. As for the SX, the main flaws are: No Centre Stand - a show stopper for many Heated grips - Who ever designed them should commit HariKari. Minor gripes: Rideology Integration - pathetic and barely an afterthought. Key placement - should be between tank and bars Screen layout - so frustrating that the top and bottom selections are restricted

    I’m in the same boat. Had a ZX10R in mind but after sitting on both I started contemplating the 1000 SX. I’m a sport bike guy having lots of experience on a GSX-R 750 and I was surprised how high the footpegs are placed on the ZX10R. By comparison the GSX-R 1000 felt much better but its tech is so outdated. Thinking I’m going to get this and maybe when Suzuki finally updates it’s GSX-R, assuming the triangle is similar to the way it is now, I’ll sell this and get that. This will be fun to try out in the meantime. Never owned a sports tourer.

    the brake pressure is there to tell you the condition of your brake pads, if you are pressing brakes more and pressure is showing quite less, you should definetly think of replacement

    Nice review. i have a 2020 and absolutely love it. I'm always interested in the newest model years to see what's changed and really nothing has which to me says they did it right. In 2020 they did make many little improvements like the ride-by-wire and the slight geometry change of the front suspension and that all really works. The only changes I've made on it is the seat - the gel seat is more comfortable but i do try and get a week long tour in every summer so it does make a difference. If you can only own one bike this is the one to have.

    Latest bike I own is the Z1000SX 2017, aka Ninja 1000. Bought new. Very good bike for long distance touring with its factory panniers. Though does not have a QS for city driving, or cruise control for long distance. Solid as a rock, no issues in over 84,000km driven. Next will be the H2 SXSE for sure, preferable the 2022 model onwards. Smitten after a test ride in Germany. 🙂 The H2 SXSE will prolly be my last bike I'll buy -- or need -- after biking 37+ years all over Southern Africa and off-road desert riding in Namibia, given my intended "sunset touring" all over Western Europe once settled in Portugal.

This bike is all day comfortable and has the perfect amount of "Useable Power". I'm just as fast on this bike out of the corners because The power curve is soooo much better and not so aggressive as the superbikes. Guys, this bike is no joke. It's fun and fast, comfortable, reliable, and easy to maintain. Wow! What a bike!

    Good review. The bike is very good. Just one disagreement. It hasn't got a very upright riding position. Try the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT. It's very upright. Feels like I swallowed a broomstick... lol. This bikes has a slight lean forward which is just fine with me. I have a back problem and I tested numerous bikes. I have to lean slightly forward to get the pressure off my back, and this bike does it. For the price, this is a very good bike. The foot pecks are slightly backwards like a semi-sporting bike and it's no problem as this is a sports touring bike. I think one of the best value for money. Well done Kawi. Thx for a good review. Potential buyers will find this very helpfull. I just wished that Kawi made the rims green like Suzuki and Yamaha did with their colors. What I do appreciate is that Kawi didn't go overboard with electronics. They kept it simple by adding the features that is important to a riders safety. Many other bikes are totally over the top with 5-9 riding modes, 2x personal riding modes, semi active suspension, electronically adjustable suspension etc. etc. Keep it safe and simple and keep the price down. I grew up in an era where we didn't have these tech. I adjusted my rear suspension on my Yamaha XJ 900, 4x with a "C" spanner until I found the sweet spot, and never touched it again in 10 years .

    That's a big jump!! Don't be afraid of looking at the in between bikes. A 650 is a step up, the Z900's are big steps up too. The 1000 is not only considerably faster, it's also physically a big bike, so just be careful if you do make that jump.

    @@PeterLoweOne thank you for the heads up. However in my country, a 650 ninja, Z900 & N1000 are in a small price difference say 1500-2000usd. Hence I thought going for a Z900 instead of a ninja 650 would be great value. Again I love the features and electronics that come with N1000. So I’m confused between z900 and N1000.

    I really like that this is a sport touring bike that doesn't look like it was designed by Jeep. I do wish it had center stand so when you are out touring, cleaning and lubing the chain is easier. I wish Triumph would bring back a modern version or their Sprint ST (not the GT).

    Yes, tThe 2000 Triumph Sprint ST w tightly integrated 3 bags of 100+ ltrs of storage was the best form sport tourer for spirited riders for 15 years. You could easily tent camp weekends. Remove the bags and then track days were fun. Now with updates of modern radar, dynamic suspension, throttle maps, 6 angle abs/ TC, modes and shifter...it would slay competitors even if it was $20k. Do we all need the HP/torque that the H2 SXSE & Pikes peak brings w their lesser storage - No. The high power is wasted on 90% of us and missing storage. The R1250 RT is close but so luxotourer w stereo ext speakers and too much wind protection for half the year in the warm West, definitely out of place on a track. If only we could get over our fascination for looking rugged while street riding (adv styled bikes).

    So the owner's manual will give you default settings. With the remote preload adjuster on the rear, what you're looking to do is you want to restore lost ride height that you lost with passengers or cargo. It's more of an art than a science as you may find that the bike rides better with two people without restoring full ride height, but that's why the adjuster is located where it is, and doesn't require tools. The location makes it very easy to adjust before the ride, and tweak during the ride, or during a stop in the ride. The owner's manual may give you some suggestions for a fully loaded ride as well as a standard ride. Some manufacturers give that level of detail, and some don't.

    Like for like, you need to add the heated grips and bags to the Ninja to line up against the Versys 1000. If you do, the price rises to just about $15k US to $19k US. The price difference lends the Versys 1000 the cornering lights and electronic adaptive suspension. If you're riding two-up the extra for the suspension on the Versys 1000 is probably worth it... but otherwise, I think the Ninja is better value. I simply don't ride at night enough to justify the corning lights.

BUT the Bluetooth connectivity/app is totally useless and unreliable, heated grips indicator is not visible in the dash, heated grips don't get hot enough, bike reacts slowly to cruise control adjustments, no USB power port by default, standard S22 tires are bad in the cold, it can put out a lot of heat towards your ankles, you can't see lean angles in custom rider mode, blipper is very jerky at low revs, only two throttle curves available, displayed range is inaccurate, panniers can be a hassle to unlock, blipper only works when engine braking at >4k RPM, and some other things. Despite these shortcomings, it's fantastic and the best bike I ever had!

  • @PeterLoweOne

    @PeterLoweOne

    Жыл бұрын

    It's a huge jump. I moved to the Z900RS from a Versys 650 and I'm not sure that I'd ever need more power. Don't get me wrong, you may get what you're looking for, but part of the fun of a 400 bike is zipping through the gears. The Ninja 1000SX is no more than a single gearshift from highly illegal speeds, and sometimes making that big of a jump can add fun in the speed department, but lose fun in the overall, day to day ride. Not saying that you shouldn't do it, but they're very different bikes, so be sure that what you're getting is what you want. As a long distance, high speed sport bike, the Ninja 1000SX is one of the very best, and I'd happily ride it, but it's much bigger than a 400 physically, and is a very different bike.

    There are a number of rider forums on this bike, and it may be best to check with some of them. Mileage can vary with any bike based on how they're ridden, but plenty of riders will be able to tell you the types of riding that they do, and the type of fuel mileage that they get. That might be the best way to get an idea of what you can expect for your type of riding.

    I haven't heard anything about that. I'm not sure that dealers would want that. They've got a pretty full lineup in that CC range. I think people would rather have a big engine Adventure Bike than another Sport bike. (from a sales perspective)

    I expect less availability this year only because I think all of the manufacturers are expecting a dip in sales compared to previous years. So it's tough for me to predict because a dip in availability may coincide with a dip in demand. Best thing to do is to talk to your dealer about availability. Wheels and Deals is great, they can order anything, but eventually allocation runs out, so it's always best to prepare early on if you want a specific bike.

    Ninja. If you look at the torque curves, you see that the Ninja makes more horsepower throughout the rev range, except for the very very top end. It also makes more torque. They're both very sporty, but the tech is important and the Ninja has the IMU which gives it more advanced control giving it cornering ABS a more advanced traction control and other electronic benefits which really help in bikes this powerful. You also have an adjustable windshield which can take the strain out of a long ride and be adjusted to avoid buffeting on different roads with different wind. You also have the remote preload adjuster which allows you to keep the suspension dialed in whether you have gear, a passenger, or you're riding solo. I genuinely believe the Ninja is the better bike.

    A bike that will seem like an opposite, but for me it's not. The Z900RS SE. It's a retro styled bike, but like the Ninja, its a fully modern sport bike. It has a comfortable riding position. Great suspension (ohlins rear shock) and great brakes (Brembo) so for me, for right now, it's been great. The Ninja is definitely the better feature for dollar bike in Canada, but it is a big step up in insurance class here, and at the end of the day, I always tell people to buy a bike with their heart as much as their head. I loved the Z900RS SE every time I walked by it... So I gave it serious consideration, and I bought it.

    wheelbase is short for a touring bike resulting in small passenger accommodation and less stable feeling at high speeds. fun fact is ZX10R has longer wheelbase and looks more substantial. ZX10R has better build quality as well. They should match the quality and size of ZX10R with a large passenger seat and slight increase in price. that should make this a better touring platform.

    So ask yourself why I didn't buy it. I also love the Z900RS SE that I DID buy. The Ninja is arguably a better bike, but I always tell people not to buy a bike based on a spec sheet, but based on what you'll love, and I love my current bike. I'm not saying that I won't own this in the future, but a few factors swayed me outside of just liking the bike that I bought. Where I live, the Ninja is significantly more expensive to insure despite sharing much of this engine. So you could say that I have no credibility, or you could say that I did what I always advise others to do... Buy the bike you love... The one you feel a connection to, not just the best value or the best one on a spec sheet.

    Haha. Yeah. But what's right for you might not be as right for me. Sometimes you have to buy with your heart, and the Z900RS SE has all the things that I want in a bike. I'd like cruise control for that one really long trip that I want to take each year, the quick shifter is pretty cool too, but the ohlins suspension, the Brembo brakes and the upright seating position of the Z900RS SE really work well with me. I also love the look! Is the Ninja 1000SX a better bike from the spec sheet? Sure. But the Z900RS tugs at my heart. I'm not buying an appliance, I'm buying something that should make me smile everytime I ride it, everytime I look at it, and everytime I put a coat of wax on it. Both bikes would have done that, but the Z900RS spoke to me just a little bit more... Especially in the SE trim that I bought! Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! I'll have more Ninja 1000SX videos coming soon!

    Let's just cut the "sport touring" bullshit. The bike is a z1000 with a windshield and a fairing. What it really is a do it all rounder that's upright and comfortable. It could lose about 100 pounds and gain about 30 HP but other than that it's a good bike.

  • @PeterLoweOne

    @PeterLoweOne

    Жыл бұрын

    It's got revised geometry since it was the Z1000. That geometry change altered it's handling to make it a better handling bike. It's got improved I wind protection, electronic cruise control. It's a sport tourer for sure. It may not be your first choice as a sport tourer, but that doesn’t make my classification of it, (and the overall classification of it by many others) incorrect. No bike with this level of power and touring capability is going to weight 100 lbs less. If you want a ZX-10R it’s sitting in the showroom with more power and less weight, but as this sits, it’s a pretty appealing package to the sport touring enthusiast.

    @@PeterLoweOne Say what you want. I've owned the bike for 7 years and ride it every day, I think I know a little something about it. The pros: its a decent all rounder that has decent power and good comfort. I bought this bike because it is upright and comfortable. The cons: it has good low end and midrange but the top end fucking sucks. The top end falls flat. They should have never detuned this engine to make low end power. The truth is its barely faster than a 600 and its a 1000. 140 hp sucks especially for a liter bike. And its a heavy pig at over 500 pounds, why all the weight? That's what's really holding the bike back. And I don't want some piece of shit zx10 with the low bars and the seat going up my ass. I can barely reach the ground. Fuck sportbikes.
