2023 Jzilla Trackday @ Barber Motorsports Park - Toyota GR86 -

Another great track weekend, this time at Barber Motorsports Park with Jzilla track days.
It had been several years since I'd driven Barber, and the first time I'd ever been able to drive it in the dry and it did not disappoint. The combination of fast and slow technical sections meant that putting together a complete lap was challenging and rewarding. This was my fastest time of the weekend, a 1:41.9 - not the 1:39.x I had hoped for, but considering the conditions I was super happy to pick up some time and run a 41 on the weekend I turned 41.
The GR86 handled everything flawlessly and was an absolute joy on track. I can't wait for some other upgrades planned over the summer and to see what the car can do at the next track event!

What mods besides the oil cooler? What tires and brake pads?

Power train was stock for this lap. Main changes were RCE Tarmac 2 coilovers, Perrin front bar, AP racing front calipers with Raybestos ST43 pads, and 245/40R17 Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RS tires.

I haven’t driven a 2nd gen car, but that strikes me as a great lap time. I had an FR-S with springs/bilstein shocks/adjustable sways, wider wheels with RE-71R, and intake/UEL headers/exhaust/canned tune, and it ran about 1:45. I never saw another 1st gen 86 beat it, in person or on KZread. Seems like that 2nd gen car is clearly quicker! The updated Bridgestones probably help some. Well driven, too. I’m a little scared of their engines failing, and I kinda want a Radical…but this makes me want a 2nd gen a little, haha

@@joshduke134 Thanks! A couple of my buddies with 2nd gens with headers/tunes (and better driving) ran 1:38s on the same day. Comparing data, I was surprised how much difference the tunes made. I'm also paranoid about the engine but I've done UOA from Blackstone on each of my changes and they've all come back clean. Waiting on the latest one to see what next season is going to look like.

Yes, I have the Jackson Racing oil cooler as well as an oil pan baffle. The cooler worked great and I don't think I saw oil temps much above 230 on a track with a lot of WOT on a hot day.

@@sherm9729 Oil cooler takes about another quart of oil vs standard and the change process is exactly the same. Overall has been a great track mod
