I wouldn't pick either one tbh.. Like you said, the original in the movie was an XtraCab not a standard cab. These are 87's. Marty never wanted an 87 unless he traveled 2 years into the future. The one in the movie and the movie itself are from 85. Also, the bumpers are wrong and the KC lights in front of the grille are missing, you missed that in your review. I own an 85 XtraCab Toyota 4wd and they are also the most valuable partly because of the movie but also because they were the last year with a straight axle in the front instead of IFS. I really don't understand how Hot Wheels got all these things wrong....

Agree - the truck being an ‘87 was a problem from the beginning since that was after the time frame that all three movies took place in. The missing push bar in front, the lights, and more tube style off road bumpers are an oversite on HWs part as well, but I was comparing the trucks to each other rather than what they should have included, since the proper version doesn’t exist in 1/64 scale sadly. One of the problems with Hollywood castings is that they represent a single specific model, which is costly to produce, so most diecast manufacturers use existing castings and just “make” them movie cars - which sucks bc we end up with a bunch of what are essentially incorrect recreations for our collections. I’m very surprised MiniGT or another premium diecast brand hasn’t recreated the truck more accurately since Toyota trucks are very popular in general….hopefully one of them produce a more correct version soon!

I just picked up the 87 Toyota pickup at my Target. They actually had a bunch of them. I only bought one, I don't have much room so I'm tying to stop buying doubles. I have been wanting one for a while I missed out on the first release. The truck is okay but as you said it looks too toyish. I wish it looked more realistic like the Land Cruiser they did for Fast & Furious or even the new batmobile.

That’s great you were able to find one of the Toyotas retail bc they have been very hard to find. HWs version is okay, but what’s really exciting is that Johnny Lightning is releasing a very accurate version later this year that will probably be the best version of that truck in 1/64. Theirs won’t be a licensed BTTF model, but it’ll be a very close match.

​@@64WheelsYou can preorder the Johnny lightning now. Both the white one, which is under 2500 produced and the black one that looks like the BTTF one. The white one is selling out pretty much everywhere. I'm sure JL will have a handful at their site but I bought somewhere else just in case...

Thanks!! Those galaxy ships are pretty nice - they are a little small but I think they fit in okay with 1/64th stuff bc planes/ships etc are really hard to get in actual 1/64 scale bc of how big they are.

Great review. A shame new truck has missing windscreen Toyota decal. I bought new Batmobile not knowing its same as last year. Premiums often do this, same as Land Shark and others. Love Jestons ship.

Definitely the new marty back to the future truck, it has more presence and detail. The original is good also but the 70 dollar price difference, also imo to get the new casting. Good video bro, I was all in. I have all the new castings and most of these originals, except for the Marty truck, the original. 🏎💭 I feel ya about the crack packaging, I've never gotten one but I know people that go through that, I agree completely unacceptable but you got lucky, your dbs was in great shape and the other one is probably on point to.👍 pre-order is key in some sets in general. I think someone in the factory just cracked your cases or in transit to the retailer even though there boxed, still no accuse for it especially for the 7$ it should be mint everything.

is the interior of new one black?and the old one is grey?

aside from all the, scientific facts about the movie and the truck, I love the Toyota truck, it’s super heavy, and for a premium, feels real nice in hand and it rolls good, super review

Sí, este modelo tiene muchas cosas malas en comparación con el aspecto del camión en la película. A Hot Wheels le gusta usar cualquier casting que tenga en lugar de hacer un casting correcto.

It’s kind of crazy they are they high too since it’s a second release. Johnny Lightning is releasing a perfect replica of the truck soon and I’m really excited about that one!

I just got the truck today and I’m honestly happy with it. I also got the Land Cruiser which kind of annoyed me how it had to be released in the Fast & Furious line. I’m a Toyota guy primarily so I was thrilled they finally did the FJ60 as the FJ40 has been done multiple times. I also got a Fed Ex van by itself but oddly enough if had a sticker with the Fed Ex logo in black outline over the printed on Fed Ex logo in red and blue on the cardboard. What I’m wondering is why? Why the sticker? I didn’t peel it off the cardboard. Just found it strange. I also have found a few new cars for my diorama and made a 1:64 scale Pepsi machine for it. I also got the 007 Toyota convertible. 😊

The FedEx sticker is a new addition to the cards as there were some issues with branding on some of the FedEx-licensed products and Mattel has added that sticker to correct those issues. The Pepsi machine diorama part is cool too!

Haha no problem - it is nice to see the cars loose without opening! There are some cars I’ve opened and then afterwards wish I didn’t, but I don’t mind having two versions of this truck loose ha.

I do wish they added the Toyota banner, but the new one is definitely one I wouldn’t pass up ha. Johnny Lightning is releasing the correct version later this year and Im really pumped about it.

I double checked and compared both trucks and they are the same casting and length. Sometimes the camera angles can make them look a little different.

The truck looks nothing like the movie version. Too jacked up. Wrong grill, wrong bumpers. Not front bull bar with lights. An like you said its a single cab, not an extra cab... as far as the actual models go, the older version has the Windscreen toyota logo. And looks like the interior is grey the new one looks black? In the film the interior was grey. (Hot wheels often using the closest casting it has to portray a movie car.... but a 1987 Toyota???? Tye movie was 1985. What not make an actually new custom casting rather than using, they made custom version of Biffs car..... its just Lazy on Mattels behalf.... especially when Martys truck is so Iconic. ) Playmobile did they same.. they used just their old jeep model but made it black..... Lazy lazy lazy....

Well for a start its the wrong model In the film it was infact a 1985 SR5 Xtra Cab not a 1987 so hot wheels fu*ked up

Yeah I don’t know why or how they okayed a totally wrong model for this, but that happens often with Hollywood cars across different brands. Usually bc they use existing castings to save money rather than make a totally new one just for the movie casting.

Not accurate enough to the movie to interest me.

That’s understandable. After this video was posted, another diecast manufacturer teased a more correct version of the truck, although without the BTTF “licensing”. So once that one gets released I’ll do a video on it as well 🏁
