The U-Haul trucks brought me back to the 1999 Power Tour from San Bernardino, CA to Nashville, TN when I was a Long Hauler in my "Budget Beater" 69 Nova that was on the April 99 Hot Rod magazine cover. Had a roller lifter failure in Kansas, had some help from people we met on the road. One of them dove under the car and rolled new main and rod bearings in the engine, Comp Cams provided a pair of roller lifters and pushrods to replace my bad ones, and after my new friends worked on my car all day, we got back on the road the next day. A few days later in Jackson, TN on the way home another lifter failed, and without my pit crew, we had to rent a truck and trailer for the long ride back to California. Great experience, met a lot of great people along the way.

I can sympathize with your problem. Made it to Memphis last year before my car smoked the engine harness. Got a rental car for rest of the week, then made a return trip to Memphis to get the car back home. It was still worth the trip. Couldn’t make it this year due to medical issues, but I’ll be crack next year.
