2023 Honda X-ADV 750 - First Ride

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Finally got the chance to go for a quick ride on the Honda X-ADV 750. A lot of people are raving that this is the best thing on 2 wheels ever made but is it true. It's certainly impressive albeit compromised and sure does leave a lasting memory. Let's see how this swiss army knife of motorcycles handles anything I can through at it in the half an hour I got to ride it.

I’ve always liked the x-adv although I’ve never actually ridden one, difficult to class as it reality it is a NC750X in different clothes. Honda do pegs that bolt in behind the footplates to allow you to stand off road. As to off road here’s a small excerpt about its win in a 7000km off road endurance race think it was in 2017 obviously would have had some changes and decent tyres. Riding a maxi scooter in what many call the ultimate Trans-European off-road adventure rally may sound like a strange choice, but to Paris-Dakar veteran Renato Zocchi it made perfect sense. “Many would never imagine it,” he says, “to run with something no one would have chosen to do a race like this, side by side with the single-cylinder and twin-cylinder enduros.” His results at the finish of the Gibraltar race - 1st in Class 2 (601cc - 950cc) and 7th overall - are a big win for Honda’s crossover X-ADV 750. Even more so when you consider Zocchi and his ADV scooter were competing against a field of hardcore adventure bikes in Class 2 ranging from the KTM 950 Super Enduro and 790 Adventure R to Husqvarna’s 701 Enduro and BMW’s F 800 GS Adventure.

Didn't know about that, made me curious and I'll look into it. On the other hand you can ride anything off-road hard if you don't care if you brake it or not and most modern machines can take a strong beating.

The footpegs, that came with the adventure pack (extra), change the bike. During 95% of riding time the footpegs are used by me. I just use the platform to stretch the legs on long highway segments. It is dificult to justify the price but I chosed this one instead of the africa twin just because is much more pratical as a daily driver. No problem doing split lanes, even with the side cases in place. Africa Twin is a much better bike but not made to use in the city traffic. I need a bike that could also ride on some gravel roads, the NT 1100 was not an option because it simply wouldn't be capable, with me riding it, to ride those roads. Tires: you are the first that discribes what I feel about the front end on dirt roads. It gets much more worst as the tire gets older. I made 9000 kms until now and I need to change the tires as soon as possible. They look ok but is getting more and more slippery. Best regards and congratulations for the honest review.

I call them by the seat of my pants and i get the bike, if you can only have one bike or you just want one single bikr to do it all it's great for that. About the front tyre I rode it straight after the adv350 from honda and noticed the difference immediately, something was off, i didn't trust the front end on that light dirt road, it never slipped but kept going which ever way it wanted. And the bike as a whole as the saying goes: “A Jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one”

Nice one. I do have a bit experience with the Integra 750, which is the same frame and engine. But yes, I believe it to be a scooter. Scooter are on frame design and siting position first. Remember that old Vespas are manuals too with clutch and everything. But I agree with you is a whole .. A bike meant for long distance touring with chain drive is a bit disappointing and on this price. A BMW C 650 GT is chain final drive too but it is incased and in oil bath and makes few times more km on one chain then the open one . . CVTs are regular maintenance free.. Just change the belt, variator or rollers every so km. Since I discover scooters some time ago, I don't wish to go back. No chain and no tubed spoked wheels for me. Yes, I had Transalp like you but long time ago /maybe 15 years/ .. Otherwise I do like the Himalayan with his mad max looks and style. p.s. There are off-road optional side foot pegs for the bike.. They look like normal motorcycle ones, on the side of the bike. Sorry for the long comment.

It's nice that there are aftermarket foot pegs but for the price of it they should have been standard, considering an extra 2000euro get's you on the back of a brand new Africa Twin :|

I rode it like 2 hours after the adv350, so it was very fresh in my mind. And I liked the 350 more off-road on the road it's still very good and it's just about half price. Maybe it's because I'm coming from the scooter world and Honda markets this thing as a high end scooter I compare it to a scooter. And compared to a scooter it's compromised. The transmission is not as smooth as a CVT the under seat storage is small for the size of the thing, the chain maintenance, etc.

Alex, I’ve always fancied one but a leap of faith as yet unmade. It doesn’t have tyre pressure monitoring (like the Africa Twin) which is nuts for a bike of this cost. Honda heated grips are also an extra and extortionate. And no cruise control which a ride by wire bike could easily accommodate. The new Transalp is similarly lacking.

I did a couple of thousand miles on the Forza 750 and didn't love the bike. Large engine capacity completely does not translate into performance - it was better to put a smaller engine. The DCT gearbox shifts gears like an American car from the 80s. Heavy bike. Very unintuitive menu. Bike was the best for longer trips, but unfortunately it has a small fuel tank. I sold it. X-ADV probably the same construction but off-road oriented.
