2023 Ducati Scrambler | First Ride Launch Review

Chad's been trying to look cool on the launch on the new 2023 Ducati Scrambler, proving that it's not just for the city slickers he's been throwing it around the Spanish countryside, with added wheelies!

I bought the Desert Sled model 3 weeks ago. The Scrambler's secret to success is that it is fun and easy to ride. It is not an intimidating bike. It is a bike that does not scream mid life crisis for a middle aged middle class man. I don't like Harley's and I don't like crotch rockets; neither one fits my life style and personality. A Scrambler is simple in design, yet provides a lot of performance and fun in that simple package. The Desert Sled fits the Scrambler image better with it's higher front fender and more off road oriented handle bars.

My previous bike was a scrambler 800 full throttle. I live in France and the bike in town was way too hot. The OEM tyres were not great so I'd recommend swapping out. The fuelling was super jerky so I'm glad that has been addressed

The rectangular screen with the rounded housing would bother me. Either a bigger round screen or an analog tach and smaller screen would look better.

The price is s the sticking point here. For circa £10k the Street Triple R is a much better buy. Definitely a heart over head purchase this one.

"The tyres look like race wets from 20 years ago" You know, I heard tell that the Pirelli MT60 was used as the wet weather tyre in super moto racing and Pirelli developed a special compound for that purpose. That tyre then became the MT60 RS, as fitted to the scrambler, among others :)

Did Ducati say anything about getting the Desert Sled back next year? That was the only bike on their Scrambler line that could actually, kinda, scramble so it's odd that they seem to have dumped it (though I assume the reason is it didn't sell well comparitively).

  • @piggymito

To be fair I like the scrambler but my mate has one and omg it's eye wateringly expensive to look after if you're actually going to put decent mileage on it. I've got an r ninet and while it's a bit more expensive to buy, over a 5 year ownership it ends up a lot cheaper than the Ducati. I think the move to nearly 10k will hurt sales.

If you ignore the electronics (which cost nothing) it looks to me Ducati have pulled a fast one.. exhaust routing changed “less bends “ looks cheap. Relocation of shock mount looks like everything else. The original location was one of the features that’s made it stand out. The seat looks cheap , the previous looked stitched and quilted. The tank is a cheap metal tank with plastic covers as opposed to a solid metal finished tank, which was a jewel. The exhaust pipe looks like it’s been made out of a can of beans. Did I mention the horrendous seat ? I would love to know how much the bike costs to manufacture compared to the original? Yet the price has gone up! By the way, I won’t be swapping my 2016 model any time soon which I absolutely love!! I paid £7500 for my 2016 Icon New.

Looking at the older model and the newer one, yeah, they are very different looking apart from the aesthetics. I wonder if they can go back to a smaller Monster with this engine since it's supposedly now Euro X compliant. I just like the 17 inch wheels since there's more variety of tires to fit them.

I don't like the fact that Ducati 'cheapen' this bike by emphasising the word Scrambler bigger than the word Ducati on the tank. It's a Ducati, and you pay full Ducati servicing tax to prove it lol! The 'scrambler' moniker should be on the side panel. I have a 2020 cafe racer version. People often admire its prettiness but say they've never heard of 'Scrambler' and ask if it's some new manufacturer!
