Awww, the trends. Love them or hate them, they are a force in the design world. I love new ideas and am intrigued with what catches on and what doesn’t. Which one is your very favorite and which ones will you be trying soon??

I never do trends in decorating - too expensive. My home is classic. If you want to bring in a trend, do it in small accessories as in pillows and not so small paint colors (which use to be a much more reasonable price alternative - I kinda grimace at the cost of paint now a days). Our large kitchen was gutted and redone twenty-six years ago and when I re-did it two years ago, the only thing I had to do was replace the wall counter tops (Quartzite) and upgrade all the appliances in stainless. My butcher block islands look even better now with age and patina and my white cabinets with a few glassed uppers strategically placed are still beautiful as are the white porcelain knobs and solid brass pulls.

I LOVE using different finishes of the same color in a room. Been doing it for decades. It brings a soft sense of dimension especially if you have interesting woodwork. Bench cushions, too. I think they're elegant looking and have replaces separate cushions with bench cushions on new pieces as well as antiques. Yummy! Also, if I'm attracted to a current “fashion” I prefer to utilize it in accessories rather than staples. As in clothing, fashion is different from style. Style informs who you are. It's relatively constant. Fashion informs us of what someone else's ideas are right now, and be assured it'll be different in a minute!
I am 66 years old, and seen all these things come and go. To be honest, it is annoying, expensive, and silly, to try and follow trends. Do what YOU LOVE !!!!!

I’ve always loved antique furniture. Antiques are more affordable, made with real wood, and built to last. Another benefit to owning antiques is that they transcend passing trends.

Exactly right, that’s why I love and have antiques too. It’s always “in style “.
I think the supply chain issues highlighted our dependency on fast furniture, and thrifting/antiquing has always been a resistance to that. Period English dramas have also been so hot for the last several years, and the corresponding aesthetic is a huge influence on current tastes.

I think it so funny that “someone” decided that the karate chop pillow will no longer be the standard for pillow display, and also that we will all follow the decision that this “someone” made regarding our pillows. Does anyone else think that this funny? Hahahahahaha!

Yes I laugh at how flaky the interior decor industry is. One day they rave about something, the next they loath it. That is ridiculous. But I laugh more at the ones that are slaves to it.
I love the idea of making one’s dining room into a library. Have the dining room table serve double duty.
I absolutely loves Drew's (Lone Fox) style. His new kitchen is stunning!
My favorite "trend" antiques or very vintage. Always been my trend.

The pillow chop means the pillow won't be comfortable because it doesn't have enough stuffing in it. I've always hated the pillow chop baloney (popularized I think by "The Property Brothers") and refused to do it, and continue to refuse to do it because it wouldn't work on my throw pillows. My throw pillows are actually meant to be relaxed against and snuggled with and even laying your head at the right angle to take a nap on, covered by a throw blanket that you really use and not just drape to "style" your sofa.
Yay! I love color! And never liked the chopped pillows!

I kind of think that everyone except the designers hated the “pillow chop” - lol - I just refused to do it !
I am soooo glad to see the industrial and farmhouse look go. I believe color and curated decor pieces (rather than collected pieces) are always cozy and inviting. Can never go wrong with a timeless style.
Yippee, I’m finally on trend. I never did get the pillow chop trend so not sad it’s going away. I’m loving the beautiful colors and wallpaper that is trending, and I love secretaries. What a great time to indulge my style. And now that so many other people are sharing in my same design style I am enjoying all of their wonderful ideas that I can incorporate into my own home.
Also love the diamond checkered floor. Would love that in my laundry room.
Fantastic video. I love how my style is FINALLY "in style." LOL. I grew up reading my mom's Victoria magazine. That was her style and became mine, also. I find it to be timeless, cozy, romantic, classic, and elegant.
I love color . I love the dark walls. Thanks for sharing.
I love the warm, loved and lived in look with layers of color and textures.
Yes! Love the cozy English cottage vibes. Only problem is I have been getting away with buying old furniture for a song, and now others will want it too.😊 I love the colors in rooms. Our home is 1940, so looks great!
I love maximal!!! Never understood the pillow chop. Glad it's about over.😆
I have never been on board with open-plan living. I love compartmentalised rooms for different functions with different decor. I'm from the UK and in my apartment block my apartment is the only one still with a separate kitchen from the living space and I love it! I do think people will start putting walls back up again with a bit of a move away from extreme open plan.

I think covid and staying at home might have turned people onto having rooms again. With everyone home in a house, it becomes super annoying when you can hear conversations from every corner of the house, or when you're trying to work from home but hear/see what the rest of the household is doing.

Never did the chopped pillows. I thought that was the weirdest thing ever. Of course, I don't generally follow trends. I say surround yourself with the things you love, and I know you say that, as well.
I still love the pillow chop. It has a very classic, and purposeful feel to me, as well as feeling more luxurious and therefore gives a feeling of comfort.
I think these dark colors are being influenced by the increase in male designers and the fact that so many men started working remotely that they want their homes to reflect more of them and not just the wife (if there is one). I'm sticking with light colors myself, they are my happy colors, timeless colors, and never look dated to me. Same with the kitchens, stick to timeless classics and it never looks dated. You add your splash of "current" with accessories in my opinion. I'm glad to see the trend is towards reclaiming, reusing, and restoring antiques and used furniture, we have enough things going into landfills unnecessarily and the prices for new but lesser quality furniture is nuts! Thanks for sharing!!
We are remodeling two homes right now at the same time, one in which we will be eventually living in. We did an open concept in one and a more closed concept with dedicated spaces in the other. I LOVE the coziness of the closed off and segmented rooms. I cannot wait until I get to move into that home and raise my family there. The open concept just isn’t my vibe, but that’s just me! ❤

I’ve always lived in homes with divided rooms. Two years ago, we moved into my father in laws condo, to care for him. His condo is open concept. This is good for HIM, he’s 92 and we have to deal with walkers and wheelchair. Although this is PERFECT for him, I hate it. Here’s my issue...not enough walls to decorate. 😢😢😢 Also, if one area is being used and messy, you feel like your whole house is a mess. Which it kind of is. Having had both experiences now, will help, at moving time, to know what I TRULY prefer.

I love classic design with the touch of maximalism. It's so curated and intentional. It's more of the reflection of the home owners character and style.
I'm loving a cross between dark academia and cottage.
Terrific video, again. I may always have too many pillows. I love comfort and cozy and textiles!
I am working on a bar right now, but with a twist. The previous owners of our house had a pool table/bar room. We have turned it into our TV room with the bar area becoming a coffee bar since we don't drink alcohol. I painted the wall behind the counter black with honey stained open shelving. We have more ideas for this space, but they will be dispersed throughout the year
I love interior decorating and I’ve fell for SO many trends over the years and learned my lesson! What a waste of money! Do timeless and traditional in your homes. Look for antiques not mass produced junk. Move what you have from room to room to keep things fresh. ☺️
I love coastal grandma. As I live in Florida I love the blues and greens.

I watched the Bletchley Circle yrs ago just for the old style aesthetic ❤️ I'm British and I mainly watch American and Canadian KZreadrs, mainly Lone Fox, xo Mckenna, Hannah Lee Duggan and Pretty in the Pines. I hate minimal, clinical looks, I'm all for the surround your home with things you love ethos. Love your videos, you really go into depth about classic styles and embracing your own version that is authentic to you. Love this one especially.
I think contact paper in the kitchen for the counters are a great idea, I covered my cabinet doors in contact paper about two years ago and they still look great, it would have cost me hundreds to change the doors and now all I have to do is peel off if I want the medium wood look again 💜
Well, I guess for the most part, I’m going to be out of style. I hate this new word being used … “Moody”. For me, I seriously would feel depressed in a moody home - I like light and bright. I love color, but I really like to have accent furniture, accent walls, and decor to bring in color. I know you’re speaking the truth because I too see it all over the internet.😊 P.S. I do have to say, I love Drew from Lone Fox - he’s very talented and his new home is magnificent! ~ Linda
I think the frame tv is a great solution. We don’t have a tv in the living room, but in the basement. We play board games or read in the living room. Kinds do homework there and we have lots of fires in the winter. We really “live” there.
Art deco for me:)
Finally the styles I have loved for years!
I loved your sweet honest presentation and I agree with you about the trends you included. My opinion about the demise of open plans is that voluminous spaces are impersonal (it's like having a public space in your home). They do not afford privacy and they are EXPENSIVE to heat and cool. With the focus on sustainability and the huge increases in energy prices, I believe we're going to see more and more people looking for small cozy personal spaces that can maintain a comfortable temperature without having to use our energy $$$ toward heating and cooling unused space.
Glad to see the introduction of color, especially green and brown. I will never give up my open concept home, I love it! Not a fan of glossy walls, but I'm all about wallpaper. Lone Fox kitchen looks amazing, but it will most certainly be outdated in a few years.
It’s so interesting the trends coming in now. A lot of the elements are things that I incorporated into my older home 15 years ago when we restored the house. I could go back into my notebook of design ideas for the house and find most of these same ideas. I never went into the whole white on white trend. I guess I’m just not trendy, I use things I like and mostly stick with them. I’m excited to see what you come up with in the near future!
Love this! Would love seeing the dark academia! I'm over all white lol.
I love the color is coming back. Hated the pillow chop. Kind of violence against pillow, 😂. I had a designer walk into my home and she said 'young people don't like brown'. I said good, I am not getting rid of my antiques or painting my furniture white. Good idea to making your own faux marble, want to see how you do it. I think the marble slab will be dated, but then it might come back in 20-30 years.

And Chocolate brown is a favorite of mine, too. My hope for the home I'm currently working on is to be able to decorate for the seasons with slip covers, pillows, (not chopped, lol), and pictures and plates. I have been collecting antiques for awhile, which I've never had the heart to paint. Fun video!
Enjoyed this post very much! Love that color on walls is coming back, love the brown and antiques!
Pretty much every piece of furniture in my apartment is either something I inherited or something I found at a thrift shop, yard sale, or curb drop and then refinished, even the couch. I wanted a blue ticking stripe and couldn't find it in my budget. I also repaired and refinished a vanity and dresser that my parents bought used in 1972. I like to combine paint and wood; distressed and more modern. I bought a double-drop leaf dining table off CL; painted the legs an skirt blue-gray; stripped the tabletop down the bare wood (4 layers of paint, stain, varnish, and wax), sanded it smooth, and just applied a wipe-on clear poly to let the natural beauty of the wood shine. I absolutely LOVE how it came out. I recently picked up an old Captain's desk at Goodwill. I have to decide what to do with it. I like the idea of having a more subtle color on the outside and a bright color or crazy pattern on the inside.
AWW... You're are speaking my language Sarah! I love these new (old?) trends and already see many of these options in my current home! Whew - I'm not so out of touch with design as I thought! Love you, your style, your friendly advice and encouragement! See you next week!

Having a butler’s pantry and dedicated library is high on my list in my next home. Looking forward to your exploration of some of these designs. I’m trying to talk my husband into your ruggable hack for our stairs 🤞
So happy to see these colors!
I’m definitely glad you spoke on this because you are into vintage as I’m sure many of us who are subscribed are and have a different perspective coming from that viewpoint. As far as the diamond floors I’d prob invest in hardwood and just get a rug only because why I love it I can see myself getting over it quickly
I love antiques, especially stained, and I love mixing them with newer things. Love the historic paint colors and I wonder how they might look in our new open-plan build, which was not exactly what I wanted (plans look different on paper!). I would love to have more room separation. There is no easy way to change that, so I have to work with what I’ve got. Good to know about the wallpaper being easier to remove. I love so many wallpapers but hesitate because of the removal process. Maybe I’ll try it in a small area and go from there. Love this video!
I always loved Ralph Loen colors especially the darker moody distressed colors. 🌺🌲🌺
Any style you decide on will be interesting! I'm enjoying the addition of older furniture in new decorating styles, although I like new furniture too. I thought the same about the huge marble slabs. I actually love the look, but even if I could afford it, I'd avoid it so I wouldn't have to worry if I sell my place in the future. I'd try a faux painted backsplash though! I've done that for closet floors, using hardboard and an oil paint--it looked cool.
Simply a great video! I especially love how when you show us an example of design, you include where it’s from. Love your videos!
Did you mention dark academia…? I love it!

We've had a secretary desk I purchased off of FB marketplace a few years ago. I turned the top, enclosed shelving into my husband's liquor cabinet. We love it, and it's multiple functions! I've always loved antiques and am eyeing the wallpaper and academia looks. Just not sure if I would like long term, how dark it would all be.
Great video Sarah, thank you and God bless you.
I’m loving these looks. It’s been my favorite style forever!
In my view.. you’re spot on! Very Lone Fox and XO Macenna vibe. Talk about splash back… I still remember those glass kitchen splash back.
Great ideas thank you for the time you took to put this together. It’s fun to watch. And we don’t have to change everything in our homes, but we can use a few ideas to upgrade a space without spending a fortune. Love it !
We painted our walls and trim the same puddy color a couple years ago and love it!!! It feels both sophisticated yet restful. Marble is always on trend. My mom grew up in a house with 100 year old marble and it just gets better with age. Once you get over yourself and fret about every scratch or stain. Marble is meant to age and become more glorious.
What a great video!! I’m 59 and I am just now realizing that my style will always be evolving because I’m continually changing myself. It’s freeing to understand what you truly love today doesn’t mean you have to love it 10 years from now. I think it would be more strange if you did, because you would be stuck in a previous life stage.
I love dark colors. I have them throughout my house. I never went with the grays or whites.
I love bench seat sofas. If there are 3 cushions, people think only 3 people should sit there and actually sitting on the place between cushions isn’t really comfortable. Most average size sofas can seat 4 people comfortably.
