I think one of the hardest things you have to wrap your head around, is that a car like this really isn’t meant to just be driven around on the roads every day. Sure you could daily drive it, but it’s almost at a point where it’s too expensive and just not built right to drive around normally. I’m not saying garagequeen them, but most people will get into more trouble with a modded four series than they will ever need.

Yep, good ole garage princess you only drive once a month and hope to resell for the same price 3 years later.
I'll be honest, I never realized how laggy those paddle shifts are until I see it in the context of a "CSL" model that costs $140k.

M4 owner here. He was in the medium transmission setting the whole time, besides 11:45 - 14:00 . When the transmission is on level '3' it's actually quite fast for an auto and hits pretty hard like a DCT

As someone who owns a 2014 5-series that also has the 8spd ZF auto, that’s definitely not the limit of that transmission. In sport+ mode that thing shifts pretty much DCT fast

@Tflem92027 Is that why the downshifts in particular are delayed? Even my IS 500 whose transmission gets hated on constantly has less lag in the downshifts.

Hey Chris I watch all your videos and love them! I have a simple request, when you do the initial start up could you please either buckle the seatbelt or give us an exterior shot with audio? The “buckle up” chime always comes on. It interrupts the first impression of the motor. Love you dude thanks for these videos!

@wamm3770 you can save a lot by getting a regular M4 and flashing the differential/transmission and engine and you'll get it to behave like this, as far as cosmetics you can by everything to make it look like a csl. Unless you are a collectors, your 140k can buy you some truly special cars.

Nice review! FYI those buckets can be tilted with the right tools (I carry them in the trunk). I am currently in the lowest position on mine with some tilt. Perfect! Just did a 200 miles drive last week. Perfectly comfortable on he interstate… I do agree it should be best on the track but I need to finish break in first.

For $140k one would think they’d go pretty balls to the wall with it because the M5 and M8 cost the same. It’s $40k above the base price for the M4. It’s a lot more than a CTS-V Blackwing which has a ridiculous amount of power with a much bigger engine. How does this stack up against the other vehicles in the segment? Who is this car built for? What is its purpose?

Regular M3/M4s are faster than the blackwing & with mods they smoke them. This car is for a collector, it WILL go up in value as it gets older.

@@s0ljawitch503 But for 140k it's a terrible option for track use. Plus why would you use a heavy, fat platform as your track car (if it's dedicated for that purpose).

Can you do a comparison with the current gen G8X M3/M4 vs F8X Gen M3/M4?
Those downshifts sound sleepy like a Nissan Z automatic. Upshifts are brutal, though.

He shifted up using the gear selector, i do it sometimes when I'm turning and using the paddles would be awkward.

@@Aadilf1 Same. I do the same thing in the IS sometimes. If I'm pulling out into a street, it is usually easier to do it with the gear selector.
BMW M cars are excellent road cars...up to a point. This M4 CSL however is more of a turn-key racing car that just happens to wear a license plate. You wouldn't daily a Lotus Exige or a 911 GT3, and this is kind of where this M4 CSL stands. Honestly the M4 Comp is MORE than enough car for street use, you probably be in agony with back & wallet pains with the CSL.
M4 CSL or Mustang GT500?
Tried a 440M X drive..and TBH the turn initiate felt so simulated/fake and the rear end often was sluggish by comparison. I figure the RWD option/s are much more ideal of an actual/thrilling drive. The thing was too nose/heavy and touchy up front. Be it breaking/corner initiation etc...the car definitely lacked POLISH from an overall driver feel. SO heavy too much low end/torque to really "FEEL" the suspension/steering potential the car had to offer...if EVEN.
Can't figure out why someone would spend 140k on this instead of a mid/rear engine sports car

The E46 m3 CSL will remain as the modern legit lightweight, this thing is 600 pounds heavier than my 981 GT4 so…..

this generation is just too damn heavy M package X drive so heavy on that 4 series platform...so simulated/flyby wire FRONT end steer/turn initiate...that the car/rear end never translates as IDEAL. complete waste of $$$ AND ENGINEERING. Not to mention the 2300-2700 rpm boost/torque curve...makes it emotionless even in the CITY/canyon smdh.

Feedback, control and grip from the M5's double wishbone front end will never make it to the M3's strut front.

This car looks impressively boring for the street. So odd to see a car where the speedometer increases quickly, and sounds like it's doing something, yet looks slow at the same time.

A rwd car with no rear seats is 300lb lighter than an awd car with rear seats. Not impressive in the slightest.

Because it has a petrol engine and is not some bland and boring car you see every day? And it's not made by a company owned by Elon. But yeah, I'd also buy something else for the price of this. The previous model M4 for example, lol.
I already watched this video with the sub Topher, you guys are doing the exact same channel why should anyone subscribe to both?
This car has never really appealed to me tbh. It falls in with the R8 GT, RCF Track Edition, etc. etc. basically just cars that are a track or special edition that have ridiculous markups because of low production numbers and just give you some minor weight reduction, slightly changed suspension, and a bunch of carbon fiber. They're just collector cars and even as collector cars I don't really get the point. Seems like a waste of a badge with a lot of history and prestige behind it from what I understand, as a non-BMW aficionado.

I don't understand the purpose of this car. It's too brutal even drive to the track and costs 140K. So you're going to trailer it to the track. At that point, just buy a track car that will be far less money and just as fast. I really don't understand the purpose of this or the GT3 RS other than "we could build it so we did."

@@IamJewz The GT3 RS is supposed to be completely unbearable on the road. It's in the same class at the CSL.
