Hi - 2 year owner. Here's my take as a first time BMW (M240i) owner: 1) As described - the performance is insane; dedicated sports cars may be faster...just. 2) This car gets 35+mpg on the highway; I get 30mpg in mixed driving. 3) Flexibility; it'll can seat 4, the seats do fold down etc. 4) I got it non-premium, Bose, heated seats -- for under $50k. 5) People love this car; I go to gated workplace -- 1/3 time guard comments on car. All in all -- superb daily driver.

It blows my mind that people don’t like the look of this car? It is gorgeous. I love everything about it. I wouldn’t change a single thing. Oh my lord you KZreadrs love to complain. It’s not edgy it is so annoying. I couldn’t even get passed the intro it was so annoying.

I’ve got a 2023, RWD in blue over red, with some M Performance carbon bits (rear spoiler and winglets). I’ve gotten sooo many compliments from random people and thumbs up from other motorists, it blows my mind. I can’t say it’s perfect from a design standpoint, but it has some really good angles and is over all a great looking car w/ classic long bonnet coupe proportions. Most of the people bitching online are BMW bros who can’t let go of the prior 2-series/M2 design.

This thing is easily the best thing in its class

"The lights have the wrong shape, the body lines has no flow to them..." says the man who finds the car "very complicated"... Dude, really?! It is definitely not the car that is complicated. I think someone's having some mental incapacity here...

I sold my my 2020 M2 CS and purchased this 23 M240i in purple and I have zero regrets. I do think the M2CS looked nicer on the outside but the M240i interior is leagues ahead. Now when I get in my M car it actually hooks up like a monster when I nail it. My last M2 CS was a drama queen, so was my 2020 M4 comp and my 2021 M4 comp. This M240i just RIPS.

My only response would be to go drive one spiritedly. You have nothing to lose by enlightening yourself. The M2 is a superior sports car but the M240i will leave it for dead off the line. The M2 comp will eventually catch it and walk it. 99 percent of you know what measuring happens from a dig lol. Not that I partake in such a thing. My wife stole my M240i from me and she absolutely loves it. I let it happen after several women stopped me to tell me how beautiful my purple car was. Started questioning my manhood so I went and purchased a S650 mustang which completely quelled such thoughts. @@EmperialHails

I think we have to face the fact that quite a few car guys are left-brain weirdos that are totally derailed by the smallest details. This is symptomatic of the modern world we live in. Good luck trying to find a better driving daily out there for similar $.

The caption shouldve read... m240i best sports car of the 2020s. most appealing, most presence having, best performance, most reliable, most dynamic, revolutionary bmw of the last 20 years. Faster than previous m cars, smooth like a series car. Revolutionary infotainment system thats best comparable to a smart phone. The handling is second to nothing in its class period and has one of the best platforms for modification internally and externally. Plus for all the guys wondering, when girls see it in person... they love it. I had it in black(23) and now red one (24). Car is not complicated even a little bit but ive said this already.

I think this looks better than the last generation 2 coupe. Proportions weren't quite right on that car imo, though the M2 looked good.

I guess if you're bothered over looks then you won't be buying it but personally I think it looks great and so much cheaper than the M cars for not so much of a reduction in performance. As a daily driver with the comfort and performance what more do you want ? Anyone who goes on about ' should have a manual box' or ' it doesn't turn in like an M car' etc etc just need to buy an m car where you can take it to the track. Mine is very imminent having waited over a year , it's got all I'll ever need as I'm not bothered about track days and riding to work feeling like I'm driving over rubble. 😊

I have this car for nearly two months now. And it is amazing

I blame the death of physical controls in cars almost entirely on Tesla. They may or may not have started the trend, but Tesla sure accelerated it faster than their 0-60mph times. Now their ergonomics are the standard by which other manufacturers seemingly "must" follow, hence BMW (and Mercedes) ditching the physical controls.

@@subzerohf At least BMW gives some physical controls. In a Tesla, everything is via the touch-screen, and from recent spy shots, it seems they are moving the gear selector to the touch screen as well, and that gets me worried about what other manufacturers are going to do.

@@cstraley Yup. I read several articles where Elon Musk brazenly declared that statement. At that point, we're just passengers in a pod, but there's one problem. There's already transportation that does just that. It's called public transport, something Elon Musk openly hates with a passion.

iDrive 8 had a bit of a learning curve, but was well worth the time to learn it. Once set up to your liking Idrive 8 is fantastic. As for the climate control the only buttons I use is once auto is on, is warmer or cooler which are always on the screen

I had reservations about the climate controls but it hasn't been a big deal except when you want to shut it off which is a pain in the ass while driving. I love the car but no car is perfect. I also like the nondescript gear selector. It has a volume knob!

Don't quite understand the start of this video. I love the looks, one of the best looking BMWs. It has such a differentiating character...

It looks better in person than photos/videos to me. I enjoyed the video and think you should review the 2022 it resolves most or ALL of your complaints! BMW made an error in advancing this car tech to iDrive8 in the 2nd model year, sorry to say I agree with your interior criticisms & why 2022 is the one to get.

Had our M240 since December, I think Idrive 8 is far better than the very dated Idrive 7 , I find it really easy to use , the old system was dark & dated .

every car is going toward hybrid/electric and a big iPad slapped in the middle. give me the last OG interior any day of the week. when i want a big screen as the infotainment, most brands do it better. plus idrive 8 was a cost savings mechanism so glad bmw are getting more money out of customers but they're ok with it

@@10essee10titans idrive 7 felt very dated and dark compared to idrive 8 , I can’t see how larger & much higher resolution screens are cheaper , this was the argument when Idrive 8 was launched before people used it but now it’s regarded as a far superior system & really easy to use .

Not a fan of the looks, but BMW definitely worked their magic on driving dynamics. B58 + ZF 8-speed + xDrive... game over. Good job BMW.

Let's call it what it is - a beautifully designed car with one of BMW's best engines. And it's ridiculously fun to drive.

Many people complain the steering wheel is too fat but I absolutely love fat steering wheels!

nice talk man right they need fix all that but the car and engine is n1 worth the money.

If you have the m-pack you can hold the left shifter to engage Sprint Mode, that saves you looking for Sport buttons

The seats are so close in comfort that i can't really say without driving them back to back. The ones in this M240i were particularly comfortable though.

I bought the 2024 M240I, this car is dumb fast man. can keep up with a lot of high performance car. I'm still getting used to the look tho

Would you have this over a M340? Debating what to swap for my Audi S4.

Got one and its superb - don’t understand reviewers comments its so easy to live with and he has got nearly everything wrong ( ex touch screen for temperature !!!)

M2 looks diabolical tho

I agree with all of that. Also, when exiting the parking space I noticed that the camera was facing forward. What use is that? You can see forward by looking out of the windscreen. What happened to the side facing front cameras that provide a really useful view around obstructions - does it not have these?

Yes, same system as my M50, you get both the 360 view and the front view at the same time

dude your reptant complain about the infotainment screen is really what irritates me. other than that, great review

I had the old 240i and always thought it needed just another 50hp which this pretty much has. I do fiddle with the climate control constantly in any car I’ve had so I would actually get annoyed but that power looks crazy fun. I’m actually torn between getting this and.. yes a GR86.. doesn’t have the 240’ power or tech but at least you can go max power without binning it! I can’t justify buying a 911 GT3 which would tick every box but realistically I’m getting either the 240 or GR86. Thoughts? 🤔😁

Nice review. That big screen is holding me back from buying one. I have a hard time reading the bar graph tachometer. They should have kept the tach analog or at least a digital circular one.

It’s interesting that you delved so deeply into the looks. After all, that’s a subjective matter and for you is a flaw, but for someone else is an improvement. I for one think it’s a great looking car. MUCH more desirable than previous gen, both inside and out. Additionally, the HVAC system is actually more user friendly than iDrive 7. That climate ribbon is always at the bottom of the screen. When you go into the menu, with one tap might I add, the layout is large and clear. Nothing difficult there. People tend to comment on these things after minimal usage, yet most adapt rather quickly. This car is a huge step forward over previous gen. That really wasn’t a desirable car without fettling. Especially with that awful open diff.

His argument is that its not tactile so you have to look away from the road to press the buttons, but the car is fully voice controlled so you dont even need to take your hands off the wheel, he just neglected to mention that

@@Helin0x99there’s a wheel to control the whole thing centrally, in addition to touch. Covers all bases really. Alternatively, you had a Porsche that’s littered with buttons and because there’s so many, you have to look away anyway! The industry is hell-bent on excoriating touchscreens but actually, most adapt and end up liking the additional, modern functionality

Contrary to all the other comments, I don’t think it’s a looker… at all. Even after it’s been out a while

The looks on this car are phenomenal, I like them more than the M2. The M2 was dogshit in comparison to this car and its like 20k cheaper. The 2022 version is amazing, I agree with you on the huge touchscreen and the shift knob missing. The only downside is that we don't have enough paint colors to choose from. They needed more since the only unique one is the Thundernight Metallic. Yeah the 150kg weight difference sucks than the previous model but thats because of the xdrive. But i would take this over the MK5 Supra since its less expensive and has more bang for your buck for daily driving.

digital dashboard sux but I'm afraid that is the future and one day soon you are not require to drive anymore

People paying more for the m2 blows my mind this car has the same if not better performance and in my opinion looks way nicer. Idk why people don’t like the look of this car it looks sooooo much better then most of the current BMW line up with the ugly big grills. The new super boxy m2 is ugly.

Let me explain why you dont need climate control buttons.. You buy the car, you set it to 20C auto dynamic, aaaand you're done! But just in case you still aren't happy. "BMW I'm too hot" "BMW I'm too cold" "BMW turn off the AC" "BMW turn on the AC" "Hey Siri play despacito on spotify.. " Now its safer than your buttons cause you can control it without taking your hands off actually driving the car... Youre welcome.

It picking mate - who adjusts the 20:04 temp while going for it ? Older people can be just as clued up as you “ young chaps” screens can be left simple to ease your cluttered mind. Looks are subjective Wonder why you dont work for a world class motor company!!!

i hate the touchscreen with a passion. that, the fwd-ication of bmw's lineup and the fact that they phased out their manual gearboxes altogether. losing the plot. blindly following trends that will generate sales at the expense of their own identity. this will eventually come around to bite them in the ass really fiercely.

Why complain about the climate control being touch screen....just say hey bmw its hot...
